    New system in Maxima

do you still have the w7s? if you do i think youd be better off upgrading your electrical, getting more power, and building a more efficient box. those subs are very capable of getting louder than what you said they were before I was pleased (VERY PLEASED) with the output from the w7's. I sold them with my old vehicle. I'm starting from scratch... do you have any electrical upgrades? and if you dont, would these possible upgrades have to fit into the $1500 budget? As of now, the vehicle is completely stock. It's got an 8 speaker bose system that I'm ok with having for now. I was planning on using only the 1K or 1.5K amp so my electrical upgrades would not have to include a new alternator. If i could keep it under $1500 that would be awesome, but I understand that with this hobby prices can swell very quickly... I'l tell you what im about to hook my friend up with, because he has a similar budget to you, and i think this will outdo your old setup. 1 fully loaded 15" BTL shipped to your door approximately $500. AQ2200D, $350 shipped to your door. so bam, right off the bat, you got your sub and amp situation in the clear for $850. So that leaves $650 for electrical. for a 2K watt amp like that your gonna need 200+ amp alternator, which im guessing will run you around 400- 500 bucks maybe? then i'd say 2 optima yelowtops, cuz theyre fairly cheap around 80 bucks a pop, then a 0 gauge wiring kit which is like 200 bucks on sonicelectronix and some extra 0 guage for the big 3. so that puts you at around 1800, putting you 300 dollars over budget. if you dont wanna go over budget at all, i'd say roll with an AQ1200d instead, and just 1 yellowtop with no h/o alt, and a 4 guage kit, which would probably set you at 1000 bucks instead of 1800. but it all really depends how much you wanna bang. But a BTL on 1k watts is still going to be pretty loud in a maxima anyways. its all on how much you wanna spend. EDIT: the reason i recommend the btl, is because i own a BL and am very pleased. i can only imagine the BTL to be fairly similar to the BL, and much much more. where the hell are you getting yellow tops for 80 bucks? lol O'Reiley's. idk if its a local chain or a big chain. its like auto zone only less gay. EDIT: theyre only like 45 amp hours. idk why anyone would pay much more for them...

  4. please dont look into iraggi. ive seen too many horror stories about their alternators. but yes, mechman and dc power are respected companies.

  6. exactly what it says. why is the term ""SQL"" looked down upon, so much? theres plenty of sq drivers out there that are capable of getting decently loud...

    22"?

i remember there being talk a while ago, about some 22" BTLs and i think the BLs too. are those still coming soon or are they out of the picture now? i havent heard anything about them in a long while...
  8. Gioia69

    22"?

    ^^^ =[... we want 22s!!!

why is "SQL" looked down upon, so much?

why is "SQL" looked down upon, so much?

That's exactly why it shouldn't be used. Well by that logic neither should loud. What's loud to me may not be loud to you. Can you answer me this please, why does it bother you so much how somebody chooses to describe their system, be it loud, sq, spl or """SQL"""? If SQ was so cut and dry, there would be no need to have multiple judges at SQ shows, but obviously what sounds good to one guy doesn't sound good to the next. I think there are more things to lose sleep over compared to whether or not somebody is using the SUBJECTIVE term """SQL""" properly. Keyword: SUBJECTIVE Yes, "loud" is subjective, but it can be a quantitative measurement (decibels). sq is completely subjective. im sure somewhere across the earth, someone would like their stock door speakers over some $1000 focal components.

    RF POWER T30001BD

its rated 1700 @ 2 ohms. it wont actually do 1700
  13. Gioia69

    22"?

i think there would be plenty demand for it too. i know if i had an SUV, id much rather run 2 22s than 4 18s cuz im guessing a 22's optimal enclosure would be like 10 or 11 cubes. where as thats the minimal enclosure for 2 18s. obviously thats a pretty extreme setup but i think thered be plenty of people that would do up the 22s, for sure.
  14. Gioia69

    22"?

yeah if i remember right i think i saw something about this on ROE a long while back. and i think one of the guys from Fi said they were only gonna do the BTL and BL. but dont hold me to this, i dont wanna be the one responsible for false rumors.

fair enough. although i dont really use it, i just wondered why it was frowned upon so much. but since i dont know the definition, would you or someone mind listing or describing everything that makes a SQ system?

    The wife got me good.

x2. for real. you should show her this thread so she can see all the approval, she'll be sure to buy you more audio goodies next christmas

What did you guys pay for shipping?

im pretty sure i paid 50 or 60 bucks for 2 15" BLs to be shipped to me. i live in northern illinois.

why is "SQL" looked down upon, so much?

i agree. it shouldnt have to be black and white. everyone looks at it like there should be no shades of grey. i prefer spl subs, with sq mids and highs... and i feel like whenever i mention this, people think im committing a crime. EDIT: and when i say sound quality, i dont mean the rediculous measures some people on these forums go to just to make the sound quality a tiny bit better. i mean mids and highs that were designed for sq. im not really that educated on mids and highs, nor have i been exposed to much in person, but the mids and highs that i heard that just get really loud, that have similar sound quality to a stock door speaker, i cant stand those. This isn't about what you like it is about mis-using a term. I think you are also misapplying SPL as well though as I'd bet you wouldn't (and couldn't) have an SPL bass setup with your "SQ" front stage. I'd also bet that what you call and SQ front stage isn't anywhere near the category. You are trying to fit into some ideal parameters to make yourself feel like you fit. Don't, instead just like what you like and describe how it is. BTW an SQ front stage by definition has midbass that is of the same level as the subs... lol im not trying to "fit in"... i dont really care what anyone on here thinks of me. but apparently i havent heard a true sq system then, and i guess i really dont understand what everyone on these forums would consider to be SQ, because i have definitly not heard midbass that matches the loudness the lows, nor did i even know that thats what sound quality is. I had always thought it simply just ment clarity and flat response on the lows. i didnt realize how in depth my question was going to end up. i have close to no exposure other than youtube videos and these forums. I havent met a single person that went to my high school thats even heard of Fi, or sundown or audioque, dc, etc. im the only one that runs a sub that isnt mainstream, everyone where i live is stuck on kicker cvr's and jl w3s, lol.

Well its not as stupid as using the term "nooblets" which makes just as much since as mashing acronyms like """SQL""". real men use the term "noob". dont hate.
  22. im sittin here talkin to my buddy on ventrilo and we have no idea what he should get his gf. hes 18, his gf is 16. the cap is 100 bucks. theyve been dating for almost a year. and it cant be audio equipment =[

DD + AQ = Clean loudness?

i second the notion on not being able to run 2200 rms on a 105 amp alternator. i had a brutus 2608d on a 105 amp alternator running @ 2 ohms. rated 1700 @ 2 ohms, and we all know that it doesnt actually do 1700 either. and i still get wicked voltage drop if i turn it up too much. I've also fried one of these alternators and recently fried the amp about a month ago . so take my word and do NOT put that AQ2200 on stock electrical. you WILL regret it.
