Battery Wiring help

I have a XS Power as a starting battery, 2 runs of 0gauge to my rear batt which is a Deka. I'm wanting to add another deka in the rear and wanted to know if I need to do 2 runs of wire to connect the rear batts together or will 1 run suffice.

Thanks

I need some design help for my box

Im designing a box for my new improved build and i jus want to verify that im doing it all correctly.

The box will be for two 15 inch SSA EVIL series subs. But for right now i have two dc lvl 4 15's that will go into the box temporarily. So it will be designed mainly around the EVIL's.

The car its going into is a 2007 Scion Tc.

I measured out max dimensions and came up with a box that i think turned out very well. i wanted it tuned low, mid 30's and low 31's maybe.

Heres what i came up with:::

Pic from sketchup

(Copied and pasted from MS word)

Box Measurements Maximum limits for the SCION TC

Width = 37 inch max (pushing)

Depth = 38 inch max (also pushing)

Height = 15 inch max after double baffled

14.25 inch height before baffle and 12.75 internal height for mounting depth

Subwoofer Displacement- .22 per sub (EVIL SSA 15) = .44 total

Battery Advice..

Got the sub and amp installed last night, and was noticing some dimming of the headlights driving around. I'm not really wanting to change out the alternator just yet due to warranty, but I'd like to upgrade the battery and hopefully that will resolve it.

The amp is an Audioque 1200d running at 1ohm, so its making right around 1200w.

Not really sure which route to go for a battery. Should I look in to an Optima or Interstate type battery, or go the route of an XS battery?

It would be the main/only battery and used for daily use in both really warm and cold temps.

Box/Sub advice for 95 Ext. cab Silverado

I have a 95 extended cab Silverado that I want to put a decent sounding system in. Nothing radical, just decent. The enclosure will be going under the back seat and the best i can figure I will only have ~2 cu ft to work with. The box could be 60"+ long but only ~14" deep and 4"(back) x9"(front) tall with a considerable section (21") that would be much more shallow across the hump.

I was pretty discouraged when i measured my dimensions. I don't think i can raise the seat as it's mounted to the sides of the cab. My options are wide open. I am willing to do anything from 8s to a single 12" (doubtful). I'm not sure I can make a ported design work but I guess it's possible.

Any advice or suggestions?

New ICON - proper power for it?

Getting my new ICON here soon and was just wondering which route I should go for hooking it up. I have an Audioque 1200d amp, so its 1200w @ 1ohm and 870w @ 2ohm. I was planning on giving the sub the 1200w, but I'm wondering if I should go the 870w route. More or less, I'll be unpacking the sub, installing it, and then hitting the road for a long road trip... so its going to see a lot of use right out of the box. Would it still be ok to go with the 1200w, or is the 870w a safer route?

Old Rockford 15s

My friend Jhovani had 2 15in subwoofers in a blowthrough in his 1999 F150.

Jhovani came over today and he asked me if we could put his box from his bed into his cab.

So that's what we did.. Unscrewed the box from the mounts, cut the wire and freed the box.

This build was done probably 10 years ago so the truck and the subs weren't in the greatest condition.

The rattling from the truck and subs was horrendously loud from the interior and exterior.

He always told me he thought he had some old 15in JBLs over the last year or so, which JBL makes some high quality subs so I figured they pretty nice.

But it turned out they were the old Rockford Power HX2 15s as stated on the dustcap.

Anyways once we got them in the cab and rerouted the wires we noticed the passenger side sub, was what was rattling like crazy.

Originally when I heard his subs in the blowthrough it sounded like maybe one of them was blown.

I touched the dustcap and the rattling stopped, I figured it was the dustcap was loose at first, but realized it stopped when I also touched cone itself.

I tested if it was the cap by taping up the cap (typically from what Ive experienced, if its the cap the rattling will stop).

The rattling continued, so I decided it would be best if we took the woofer out and see if their is any internal damage visible.

As soon as we lifted it up out of the box I realized this is Rockford's big 4in Voice coil sub.

Pretty cool as I have never seen a 4in coil before.

I looked over the sub, and initially didn't notice any damage, I lifted up the coil with the cone, and that made the issue very apparent.

The spider was almost completely detached except where the leads were.

I took some simple green cleaner, and cleaned the edge, and the rest of the sub as they were dusty.

Took some stripper and me and Jhovani rubbed the edge to try and clean and remove some of the old fragments of glue and such.

We then used some epoxy and coated the edges, we had a little trouble with that, because the tip had broken when I opened the epoxy.

As I was putting the epoxy on it was coming out the sides and everywhere, we lost most of the first tube...

We got most of the spider epoxied on, but there was a couple places namely by the leads where we didn't get enough, but I was out.

Currently we are waiting overnight for it to dry, and see if this fixes most of the rattling.

On a very good note the coils were shiny and looked brand new, which I thought was pretty impressive since he has hammered on these 15s for years.

Thought I'd post the little experience, since it was kind of an unexpected thing today. Some of you may find it interesting.

I don't know too much about older subwoofers, namely these, so you guys will have to give me a history lesson on these and your opinions

Sorry also if this in the wrong section, I figured this one would be fine though.

how can i get louder

Im currently running 2 18s on about 2000w rms each. I know most would put both in the same box but i built separate boxes. the boxes are bolted together and then I have it in a wall config. According to Turros box calculator I have about 6cuft each and the port is tuned to about 32hz...what can I do to get louder if anything.

Also I don't think the soundstream amps are putting out 2000w rms. would a more efficient amp help too. maybe an better amp with about the same rms power as the subs (1800w rms) not to risk blowing my subs....

advice please

Need some help with a box

Hey guys, I just ordered myself an AA mayhem 12" and I am currently waiting on it.

In the meantime I have been looking for a box to put it in. I immediately went over to the Khaotic enclosures to see what they had for a ported single 12. At first I found exactly what I was looking for, A low tuned box, Nicely built, For a good price. However After taking more measurements, I realized that the box isn't going to fit in my 03 Mercury Sable.

I went back onto the forums to see if I could find anything else. I came across the DC creations boxes and I filled out an inquiry to get a quote on a box. I still have not gotten a response over the past few days.

I don't have the materials or equipment to build a box by myself, so I am dead-set on purchasing a box online.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

            Kyle

P.S.- Max box specs are looking like 32"L x 14"H x 18"D

You can stop by any Tue-Fri between 9-5 and ask for Mack Thompson, Jack Todd or myself Rick Holmes or you can submit your resume to Mack at wmtacs@yahoo.com

ID12d4 Subwoofer Box Design

Hey guys, so my dad really wants an Image Dynamics 12 for Father's Day and I want to build him a box for it. It's going in a Honda CRX, and I want to try and load it off the rear hatch. I just need a simple sealed design and cut sheet. He's got 35"s between the two shock mount plastic panels and 28" from the open storage box to the back so space isn't an issue whatsoever, especially for a sealed box. Only thing important is that I want it fairly close to the 35" across so I can mount it right behind the storage tray angled back to the hatch class. Any help? Thanks a lot guys, and here are all parameters you might need http://www.imagedynamicsusa.net/files/59633398.pdf

possible defective amp

i hooked up 2 PSI 18S and 2 Soundstream tx1.2000d amps. Gains and freq levels were set the same on each paired amp n sub. The first lil while i played it, everything worked fine. then all the sudden i notice one sub were playing lower than the other. wtf right...checked the impedance on the coils and they check out fine. So over the last few weeks ive done everything i can think of from checking connections, swapping subs around, new rca cables, even thought it might be the bass knobs, and still one of the amps is putting out less power. I can tell there is an issue because when i play a test tone, what ever sub is hooked to that amp suffers especially in the low range 20-30hz compared to the other sub n amp that is playing at the same time. i called Soundstream and they said it either plays or it doesnt, theirs probably nothing wrong with it...wft i duno what to do.

has anyone ever ran into an amp like this? i know somethinng is wrong with it even if it is playing somewhat.

im def gonna try n return the soundstream amps again and get a Crescendo 3500 of SSA that ought to take car of the issue haa

i have two sets of images its this album. a 33hz tune and a 36hz tune. i intend to build the entire box minus one side (leaving it to be held on by only screws) and change out the port as i test the subs volume. once i have things set ill glue on the final side.

i would greatly appreciate it if someone would check my math and offer and criticism on what i have laid out here. thank you very much.

I've got some connections who can do a little something for me so we're going to cut a plexiglass sheet for the front and cut outs for the display and the fans, probably going to upgrade the fans and get the whole thing powdercoated.

I am looking for a box builder in the Louisville Ky area.

I live in the Jefferson-town (J-Town) area (40299-3520) of Louisville Kentucky & I was wondering if any of you guys would know or recommend any box builders in the Louisville Kentucky or Southern Indiana Area. I just want someone who is good at what they do & will give me a fair price. I figure that cutting out shipping costs will save me at least $100.00 & with someone local they can actually see my car & build what I am actually looking for.
      Thanks
                 Mike

No photos.... some help

So some of you advanced users may know... or maybe even the amateurs too ... I'm trying to dig through my photos to see the metadata of them .. Basically I'm looking to find the most common focal length I happen to use my 16-80mm lens ... I want a prime and they are not so expensive but I'm torn between 35mm and 50mm which are both 1.8... On my camera those lens translate into roughly 52mm and 75mm since it's a cropped sensor. NOW .. understanding that, would it be better to use the 35mm as a go to lens for indoor shooting and nice close-ups because of the bokeh affect those lenses posses ... From what I've read the Sony 50mm 1.8 lens is apparently sharper than the 35mm although nothing specific was shown to prove this..

Some help from you guys would be great... What programs can search your photos for data in that manner?

i have a box all designed on sketch up, 4.2cuft tuned about 30hz. the sub will be on the rear passenger side of the cab, it will take the middle seat and the passenger seat in the rear. the sub will aim inbetween the front two seats and the port will either face towards the roof of the cab all the way to the passenger side or towards the drivers side. what would you guys do? originally i was going to face the port towards the drivers side, but if i have a passenger in the back i think it might blow their ear drum a bit... but i am sceptical about aiming it towards the roof because i dont think ill have as much air moving throughout the cab as evenly? idk.. what would you guys do? this is a daily set up running on 1300rms. any help will be greatly appreciated!

Line Driver???

Ok I have a 2013 ford fusion with ford mytouch. Touchscreen is connected to all the electronics in the car so running an aftermarket HU is out of the question because it will affect everything in the car. I have a 15" sp4 and im planning to run it on a sundown 3500. My question is if i use a line driver (audio control, LOC, etc) to connect my amp to my Factory HU will I lose output or my lows by doing this compared to running an aftermarket HU? I just don't want to run an amp and sub if i can't get its full potiential. Thanks!

Surround repair....

So I think this has been asked before but I'm not sure my search worked well enough just found 4sale stuff with it mentioned...

My Xcon was in extra awesome condition.... Found out that today my father was moving stuff in their garage and boom he calls me to say he thinks he hit it with a piece of plywood he was moving ...

There is now a puncture/tear about 1/3 of an inch maybe less.... What can I use to fix it/glue it? I know I don't want to "melt" the surround material with normal glue but what should I be using? The subwoofer won't see any action for a while so cure time is no issue..... Let me know..

Sad that this fcking subwoofer was sitting in that garage 8-9 months or more with no issues... he moved the box from the original corner I had it in which didn't expose the subwoofer to anything but a wall AND I put wooden blocks at the base to keep it from touching the wall .... FML!!!!!

Thanks for any and all help fellas!!!

hey guys i have a 2006 toyota tundra access cab. currently my sub is in a 2.5cuft box tuned around 32hz. its much too small. it is being powered by a percision power black ice bk1300.1d. and i have been fiddling around on sketch up trying to make a box to fit nice and tight up against my seat in the back passenger side. the box will be roughly 4 cuft with 2 4" pvc ports. will this be enough port area for my sub? the box i have it in now has much too small of a port. i am planning to tune to around 30hz this time. sub will be roughly in the center of the two front seats firing foward, with the ports facing the drivers side. there will be one seat still usable in the rear behind the drivers seat. what do you guys think of this plan? any suggestions? im pretty crafty with the tools, so i was thinking about putting a mdf ring on the end of the ports and flaring them with a router. double baffle flush mounted, and i think im going to need to brace the box a bit this time.

subwoofer feedback help

ok so my buddy has a mazda6 with the bose system. he wanted me to help him out with his install. he found a diy for the car. basically what we did was take the signal from the factory subwoofer in the rear spare tire well and hooked that up to some rca's for the signal. the factory plug had 4 wires, 2 for signal, 1 for power (remote) and 1 for ground. i chopped the rca cables like the diy said and i soldered the wires behind the shielding to the designated wires. when we hooked up the rcas to the amp it worked and we were stoked, but when he turned the car on, there was a slight humming in the subs. i turned up the lpf and it was playing higher frequencies too.

whenever his car is off it doesnt hum. even when the stereo is off and the car is on it will hum. we did hook up another pair of rca's to my amps output and ran my signal to his amps inputs and it worked flawlessly. does that eliminate the possibility of a bad ground? ground loop isolator might not even work because the ground is okay because it didnt have the humming when we used my signal?

sometimes out of nowhere the subs will boom uncontrollably very loud to the point where it looks like theyre moving dangerously too much

not trying to sound like a noob but im really kinda embarrassed i couldnt help my buddy out when i couldnt understand what was going on

help please!

Can't decide, SSD12 or 15.

So I just sold my 2 Kicker 07CVR12's.

I'd always heard that 10 and 12 inch subs sounded cleaner, and that they would hit the higher bass range (60-90hz) much better than a 15 or an 18.

After a lot of reading here on this site, my conclusion is that this is only the case with much cheaper "entry level" drivers where the manufacturer just attaches a larger cone to a low powered motor for easy SPL gain. With a subwoofer such as the SSD15, would there be very good frequency response all through the sub-bass range? My new understanding is that the only difference between a ssd12 and an ssd15, provided they are both "stock" is that the 15 inch driver will be slightly more responsive to less power because of it's higher sensitivity.

my kicker CVR12s were in a ported box tuned @ 40hz. I want a much smoother, flatter response than I had with them. So i've been thinking about getting an SSD15 in a sealed enclosure with the High-QTS option. I suppose I would go about 2 cubic ft before subtracting the subwoofer displacement. So about 1.8 cu ft sealed. Given this application, what kind of results should I expect? Wider/smoother/tighter frequency response and better SQ? More SPL? The 2 CVR 12s together have a rating of 800RMS, which puts the two of them not that far behind the SSD in RMS power, but as I have been lead to believe based on other parameters...the SSD15 @1000+ RMS is simply a completely different animal and it will absolutely annihilate the CVRs in every aspect.

I listen to many different kinds of music, and want a more SQ oriented setup than i've had, so that's why I'm leaning towards sealed. Of course I could also go ported (as I'm sure many of you will suggest), and I have the room to do so. I just want to be sure if I go with a 15" that it will have plenty of loud, clear, and clean output between 30-90hz.

I'll either be putting it on a Hifonics BRZ1700.1D (I keep hearing that the BRZ series is the only one worth a damn) or this Hifonics GLX1400.1D (I haven't heard much of anything about it, but it is CEA2006 compliant.)

Any input/advice is greatly appreciated!

MMATS 2100.2

I recently bought a MMATS 2100.2 thinking it was a 2100 rms at 2ohm amp only to find out it is really a 1550 watt RMS and 2100 watt peak amp. WTF!!!! I am really disappointed about this, I wouldnt think a great company like MMATS would be so misleading. I bought the amp to step up power to my IA Death Penalty, I had a Kicker ZX1500.1. Well when I pulled out the Kicker and replaced it I found to my suprise that the MMATS wasnt as loud as my other amp. The Kicker is adverised as 1500 watts but originally came with a birth sheet showing that it tested arround 1700 watts. So I guess Kicker actually under rates there amps while MMATS advertises 2100 watts and only produces 1550RMS. The only thing that the MMATS has going for it is it is smaller and fits in my truck better.

I local shop has been installing these mostly in a 10" for smaller space systems like mine. Says they are pretty awesome, and blow the rockford p3's i was looking at clean away given my type of setup. He was explaining to me this new line is from a new sound engineer(?) kicker hired not to long ago to turn their line around to a better quality sub than their recent models. Could be BS for all i know. But this guy does have a huge wall FULL of big a** trophies and records, i believe he even mentioned something about a world record IIRC. Been in business for a long time here, sells kicker, JL, rockford, DD, etc. so it seems like he would have solid advice. He was suggesting i get two 4ohm comp R 10's, the cx1200.1 amp, switch the subs to 1ohm and wire them in series for a 2ohm load at the amp.

They feature 600w rms, 1200 max, ideal for .8cuft sealed boxes, and feature a selectable resistance. The 2ohm model can be changd from 2 to 8ohms, and the 4ohm model can be changed from 4 to 1ohm. They suggested driving these subs to their full potential with the newer Kicker cx1200.1 amp. They can be picked up for $130 online or at Best Buy, and most shops sell them for $160.

Anyone have experience with these new subs? Ever heard them in person? Is there really a new designer hored on at kicker changing things up? To good to be true?

Heres a link to the sub

Newb System Advice-Subs and Amp

I have a 2003 dodge ram im looking to put a setup in under the back seat. I will be building a fiberglass sealed box conformed to the underseat area shape. It will net me a minimum of 1.75ft3. Im just looking for hard hitting bass, no top of the line setup. Budget for the subs is around $300+-, i would imagine 2 10's would probably be my best route? I just went around to all the shops here in town for different opinions. I know Kicker is normally frowned upon, but a few places suggested the new Comp R 10's and a cx1200.1. I cant seem to find much info on the new subs, i was told these new subs are from a better sound engineer kicker hired recently but it could be BS for all i know. So what subs and amp would you folks suggest given the airspace i have and being under a back seat? Im still searching around, but being inexperienced in audio is making some of the information a bit overwhelming to take in and remember.

Aaron approached me about building a budget 2.1 setup for watching movies on his laptop. We came to the agreement to build two small towers which will have four 3" full range speakers per side arranged in a line array. Each tower will be roughly.5 cubic feet sealed after displacements. A SoundSplinter Orphan 8 will be used for subwoofer duty.
3/0 lugs

I've been searching around for some 3/0 lugs for my electrical upgrade.

I really prefer using the split barrel over the solid like most of what you see. Like this:

I found some on amazon for $2 each. I know I can use the solid barrel but they all seem so damn bulky. Well, not that 3/0 isn't bulky anyway but I'm not trying to have a huge stack of crap on all my connections either. Nor am I trying to spend $100 on some terminals.

Anyone have any good reliable sources to look at? Any suggestions? I'm not totally against using the solid barrel lugs if they are fairly compact.

Usually I use something like the Knu terminals and call it a day but they don't offer anything that large.

Thanks!

How big do you think I should go? What tuning frequency? Any help is appreciated.

My grandfather passed away in 2004, and I finally ended up getting the nerve to start getting the Eldorado fixed up and handled. I went up to my grandmother's house Sunday and tried to get her fired up after sitting for about 5 years. Electrical all seems good besides having to replace the battery of course. I came across a couple of things that royally pissed me off but when I go up again to try and pass the old gasoline out, or drop the tank if it comes to that, I should be able to have her running and ready to go.

Plans are RF Punch Pro 6'' or 8'' in the doors below the factory speaker locations and the Punch Pro Tweeters in the factory 4'' locations. Rear speakers will be disconnected and a pair of DR's or DP's in the trunk, haven't decided yet. Just some pictures of it during the clean up.

CCA vs OFC is there really a big difference?

So, I've noticed recently that just about every wire company has bot OFC and CCA wire available, with OFC being the higher end line.

My question is, In a car audio environment, where my power wire run will be no greater than 17 ft, is the difference in conductivity enough to make a noticeable (to me as an average consumer) difference? If not overdrawing or improperly fused?

As an example: 4 awg run 60 amp fuse less than 12" from battery to amplifier that has a max current draw of 60 amps with a total length of the run being 12 ft? Amp ground at 18" on 4awg as well?

Or say doing big 3 upgrade with 1/0 wire running above mentioned equipment/main power run to the back?

Bass question?

I was wondering if anyone else experience a change in bass when adding volume. When I play my BL 12's at low to right below half volume they slam deep but if I go to half volume or more they play loud but not as deep anymore?

Bad spot on coil?

I have an issue with my amp protecting at a high output. The subs are wired to ohms in an 8 cube enclosure tuned at 38. When I take it into high volumes it gets louder without distortion. When it starts getting to its peak my amp throws a short circuit protect. Is it possible that one of the coils have an issue? Or possibly amp?
The setup is four fi ssds on a stetsom 7kd. Also coils read exact same on each eight coils.
