they're also considering using the tunnels to run transmission lines for electricity developed by tidal energy stations and wind plants in Russia to Alaska and Canada, as well as high speed passenger rail lines.

They're speculating that said rail system could connect NYC to London, although that is a bit far fetched. NYC, LA or Chicago to Beijing or Shanghai would make much more sense

Pretty amazing feat if they pull it off.

NYC to Shanghai nonstop is 15 hours @ ~500 mph, I don't think a rail can match that either

The high speed rails vary from 110mph to extreme 361mph (an experimental one).

The fastest manned rail vehicle was a manned rocket sled, that travelled at 1,017 km/h (632 mph).

So yeah, don't think that would be faster, perhaps cheaper tickets?

I'd much rather have an interstate high speed rail network. Kind of like Amtrak, only far more useful. Oh well

Oh to be young again and only worry about how large an enclosure I could fit in my car versus needing room for toys, groceries, and tools.

Yep, eighteen, Could have bought a coupe and had less room, instead got a somewhat sporty wagon and did that. :P

Still need some eibach springs and a few small things.

My father was the one who got the impractical car, c30. :P

When I pulled the enclosure out, I looked from outside the hatch to the front, just imagining all the possibilities, even bigger dumber enclosure, or no enclosure and I could sleep in my car for road trips...

We can actually fit a 5' ladder in my father's c30, looking from the outside you'd never guess.

Anyone get the new Red Hot Chili Peppers album? I was pretty psyched about it for what ever reason, finally got it and only a few songs really stand out.....

Lately when it rains here, it pours for about five minutes then stops, a complete drag.
