16 year old budget build

Recommended Posts

I figured I would go ahead and put up a build log since some of my stuff came in today and I plan on being done with this project over the next month.

Well I'm 16 years old and this is my first car a '97 Toyota Tercel, I got this car from my grandma as a gift and I couldn't be happier with the 40mpg I get.

(1.5L 97hp lol)

There is a couple things I plan on doing to it like a new paintjob and some rims and a tint job, etc.

The first thing I'm going to do is give it a little acoustic upgrade on a slim budget.

My planned setup

HU - Pioneer DEHP3000IB

Front Stage - 4" Kenwood KFC1682

Back Stage - 6 1/2" Kenwood KFC1682

Mids Amp - Kenwood KAC 500

Sub Stage - 1 15" Fi SSD

Sub Amp - Hifonics Bxi1208

Wiring - Knu Conceptz

Sub Box - 3.5^ft3 @ 33hz

Stock head unit, not too sexy

Disgusting stock 4's

Good sized trunk, not enough for the 18" though :/

New Kenwood's came in the mail today

Wanted components but I'm on a tight budget

I'm ordering the new pioneer head unit tonight after the bama gator game.

I will install all of the speakers when I get it in because there is no point in doing it now.

Nice headunit, It has a crossover built in for the front, rear and sub. Be sure to set the highpass on your new speakers. You might want to put some dynamat on that rear deck.

Thanks guys, the new brain for my system is on its way.

When I get everything installed what should I set my low and high pass filters to?

I heard something about setting subsonic to like 2-3hz below box tuning, so I should set my subsonic to about 30hz correct?

30hz sounds fine. and as for your lpf, go ahead and set it to around 60

high pass on the coax's start around 100 and go up and down depending on how they sound. i suspect those 4's wont like low stuff.

sub- low pass start around 80 and go down (probably wont go up) till you like it. my subsonic on my amp could only do 15 or 25 hz. 25 sounded better with the ported box. anything down there isn't audible anyways. playing a sub too hard below tuning could damage the sub aswell.

Yea I thought about that, I'm going to use some of my Christmas money on some dynamat or fatmat.

Uh right now I am working with stock electrical.

im trying some raammat out in my doors and some other spots depending how much i have left. ill start installing just after xmas. it was about 140 shipped to central PA. i have dynamat extreme in the trunk but that cost me the same amount for half the square feet...

always hear good things about second skin audio as well.

Good luck with the install. Looks like a nice start so far. I agree with prior posters, a little bit of deadening goes a long way. I prefer Second Skin Damplifier personally. Keep the pictures coming along. :)

Okay finally talked to my dad about everything.

Me and my buddy Blake are going to pick up 2 sheets of MDF tomorrow after school along with the gorilla glue and screws.

It's gonna be 30wide, 24deep, 14high

About 3.8 cubes after all displacements, 56 square inches of port @33hz

I'll have some box build pics up tomorrow evening after we get done.

Only took about 3 hours to get this far, for a first build I think we did pretty good.

Me and my friend Blake did it.

And after building most of the box it kind of influenced him, he realized he wanted to build a better box for his 12's and I'm trying to steer him in the right direction.

Pics

First 2 walls put up

Picture558-1.jpg

Back, left and right walls up

Picture556.jpg

Same except with his power acoustik 15" for size comparison, the sub is blown though :(

Picture560.jpg

Front wall, shows how big the port is

Tomorrow we are finishing up the port and caulking the inside of the box with some silicone sealant and were gonna glue the top on, and cut the hole for the sub.

Goddddddddd I can't wait to get everything installed its gonna slam.

But I'm wondering whats the best way to cut out a 14" hole for the 15" sub?

Router is the best way but i used a compass to draw a circle on my box and cut it out with a jigsaw
