New Mach 5 Build - Zero Power Compression

Recommended Posts

I've been nursing this for a number of months now. It will be in the assembly stage within weeks.

Pictured below is the voice coil of the next Mach 5 build - wound by yours truly. This will eliminate power compression so it will simply get louder with additional power applied. In the center (of the first pic) is a 3" coil to give you an idea of its size.

I'm sure it is nothing "new" to other companies, but since I will be winding them here, I figured why not? :D

Is that the advantage of bigger voice coils? Less power compression?

That thing is huge. Someones gonna use it as a circle template to cut out speaker holes.

It seems auto sound has made a full circle returning to its roots in pro-audio where 6" voice coils are the norm. Unless Mark has something sinister up his sleeves?... Watching...

Yeah, this is my motivational plug. If I don't talk about it it won't happen. Since my Winnipeg friends have all but deserted me (*cough* Sean) I must open a dialog online to get me moving...

Steel is ordered and the coil winder is in place to make up a formal former...

You should feel motivated over here more...

The impatient "know-it-alls" over at CA askin you how much it can handle when all you have is wire would make me wanna not build it...lol

I'll keep watchin this thread as it progresses.

I've already seen 3 very nice products showed off this year-

SSA XCON

IA Warden

Sundown "Monster"

Let's see what kind of enlightenment this teaser project gives us once it's put up to the test of reality.

I like these builds.

Man... I finally get my hands on my first IXL and now I see this. I haven't even done anything with that 18 yet... it's sitting on a shelf waiting for me to get a box together. Ok wallet, start stuffing yourself again... I get the feeling I'm going to want whatever that big coil's attached to.

Be glad I'm not in Winnipeg - I'd probably camp out outside the shop until you released the final product :D

Steel is in. I have to wind a couple of coils now. I'll be picking up the lathe tomorrow (finally). Next up is the forms for the basket.

I gotta keep this moving...
