Chris' Wall Build in the Aviator vids p.35

Recommended Posts

"OK, lets revive this build log.

I need you to post what you are gonna be running in your wall.

I need to know the subs, the amps and the batteries that are going to be used.

This is the information i got off of your video, if it does not match up to your Aviator, let me know immediately before i start the build process.

Baffle = right behind front seat area

Height - 42.25" for baffle height, 38" once over the hump.

Width - 50" in baffle location, 44" wide throughout the rest of the vehicle.

Width 2 - 41.75" wide if box goes to the headliner..

Depth - 37" on the hump, 63" total.

2 questions i have-

Depth - am i to assume that you can use 26" of depth in between the hump and front seats?

If this is true, how close would the box be from touching the seats?

and other question - when measuring from bottom up, how high can i go before the width starts shrinking from 44" to 41.75"?

The measurements you did at the VERY back of the vehicle are irrelevant for the box design as you stated your equipment will be installed back there.

I just need to be able to draw it out as square as possible without having to contour the design every few inches.

The front WILL be bigger than the back, but i do need to know the above questions before i start."

-Shizzon

I can tell you the equipment now and then tomorrow I will have to take measurements in the car.

4 18" Xcons

2 Sundown SAZ-3500D

1 Sundown SAX100.4

1 Sundown SAX50.4

3 or 4 C&D UPS12-490MR Batteries

In the back I figured we would hide the batteries in what would look like a bench. Above the bench we can have the 2 3500s next to each other, then the 100.4 below them in the middle and then the 50.4 directly under the 100.4. I will draw up a picture in paint tomorrow at work since my mac does not have paint =(

Also I would like to make the box as big as possible without making it sound like crap. I do not want it to be for spl but daily. I understand that I will be able to tune the port but I do not know how much of a factor box size will play in how good the sub will sound.

u dont want it to sound like crap? then i can't help u then... lol

I know you have an extreme amount of room to do this install.

It will be crazy loud and because of how much room you have, you can choose any tuning you want because i know you should have the room for it port-wise.

Ask SSA what would be the best tuning for the XCons for daily so u will be happy.

I forgot we are talking audio terms here. By crap i mean i do not want it to sound muddy and sloppy. I just want it to hit the notes I throw at it below 63 or so hZ

This is directly from Aaron - "We prefer them in the 6.25 - 7.125 for most installs". I will ask him about tuning frequency tonight. Also I would like to adjust it for spl setup when I compete so I would like to do something like you did (adjustable/removable port).

oh... i thought u werent competing.... ok i'll keep that in mind.

U better find somebody with a mic u can use on a daily basis so u can find the right size port for comp use.

Ya. I have to buy a mic that I can use on my dmm. I might just buy the epicenter with the db meter on it. I know its not great but it should get the job done just for tuning purposes.

This should be good. I always like to see four 18's together.

I have to come up with a list that will describe the order in which I am going to approach this build. Tell me how this sounds. I already have the front speaker wires ran but I decided I am going to go active so I need to run a second strand to both sides. I am running new RCAs because I do not like the ones I have now. I am installing a new radio because the one I have is outdated. I also have not ordered any subwoofers yet or subwoofer amps.

To start off with I will:

Run the second strand of speaker wire to each front side

Install new radio

Run RCAs to back of car

Run all my grounds since they will be near impossible to get to aftrer the wall is built

Run wire to designated areas for the LEDs because they will be near impossible to run after wall is built

Build Wall

Paint Wall

Install Subs

Install Amps and Batteries

Mount Electronic Crossover

Might have to run a tube inside the port for a fog machine where ultraviolet LEDs will be shinning out of the port =)

Tell me what you think and let me know if I should change anything

This is what I want the back hatch to look like when it is all done. The batteries will go in that bottom piece that looks like a box. That will also be a bench to sit on if for some reason I have more than one passenger. The blue piece is my electronic crossover and the black and silver boxes are the sundown amps. Criticism please.

This is somewhat what I would like the front of the wall to look like if possible.

well that is how it will look, lol.

I'll give you the dimensions for the wall at some point... after u get those other measurements i asked earlier.

The rounded corners on the baffle, you can do that if u want but all it's goona do is ease up on some of the expanding foam. The wall will not go back like that.

Well the front was with the expanding foam. Its not exact . The back is kinda 3d and that is supposed to be the hatch ending lol. I'll have the measurements in 10 mins.

The baffle height we should go 41.25 to be on the safe side. The box would be 4" from the back seat. That is reclined to my comfort position so if needed I can pull my seat up. The width starts to shrink at 23". All of these measurements have been taken with the front floor plate going over the transmission bump in the middle of my vehichle.

Thanks again shawn!

What did you do with your Rocford amps? They were very good ones.

You are changing everything in the car!

What comps will you be running?

It will be a "wicked" set up !!! Looks really good fing34.gif

good luck with the instal. There's a lot of work to be done.

Shipped the rockfords back. 500 amp fuse rating on a 4000 watt amp was rediculous. Efficiency was something like 76%. Don't know what I am doing for comps. I havent even installed the RE XXXs yet and I might sell them.

I am not a Focal dealer, but I must say that I love my 165KP very much! Sometimes I feel like the singers and even the group are in the car with me!!!

I am very very satisfied with them. I have change lots of things in my system, but I don't want, don't need to change my comps.

But I've never heard the xxx comps, so I can't compare.

You seem to know what you're doing!

4 xcons 18 : that will be loud! Doh.gif I've heared only one 15 xcon in a ported box (3.5 ft3 @32 Hz), and it is incredibly loud, and sounds sooooo good!!!!!!! I'm sure you'll love your 18's.fing34.gif

I am an amature when it comes to car audio. I post more help questions than I do solutions to other peoples' problems. The xxx are nice but I was going to put 2 sets in the front. People told me I would get cancelation and it would not be loud like I was expecting. Therefore I am seeing what else is out there as far as a 3 way front stage and see how much it would benefit me.

3way frontstage : that can be a good choice.

You need output from your speakers to hear something else than your 18's !!!

They told you you would have cancellation with 2 same sets of comps? I am not an expert, so I can't judge. It's a pitty because you already have yours 2 sets of comps.

Maybe you can try them anyway? They look sooooo strong!!!

I had these before and blew them up because sonicelectronix sent me a bad amp. I got 2 new sets under warranty. I put the old ones in and I cannot say I was impressed with 2 sets. They sounded great and I could feel the vibrations in the floor from the kick panels but It was not much louder than a single set.

It may not be "much louder", but you should test with everything installed.(just my 2cents).

It's got to be louder with more cone area, but with the same amp (even at 2 ohms) you will have less power to each speakers. Give them what they need !

Time for another sax amp?!!!

reguardless i will be running a 100.4 and a 50.4 ... the reason a 3 way might be louder is due to the cancelation of the xxxs

I thought cancellations may come only when using different size speakers playing the same frequencies. But with the same size speakers , it should be good, like when you have 2 subs (you do not have those problems).

But remember, I am just learning here.

This forum has a lot of big car audio gurus and specialists who can help you more than me !!!

Not true. Cancellation is only beneficial to subwoofers because the frequencies are larger wavelength vs. small wavelength(high frequencies).
