speaker wire to comps?

Recommended Posts

just wondering if I am running 75 watts to a set of components, can I run speaker wire from the amp to the factory wiring or do I need to run wire all the way to the comps, not sure on the exact gauge, but its just whatever honda runs to their speakers, probably 18 ga at best?

what size speaker wire do I need to run to them if I run the full length?

14?

I run 12 gauge from amp to crossover and crossover to speakers. But 14 should be ok, I wouldn't use the factory stuff.

alright, so then what should I run to my subs 8 gauge, Ill be running about 11x the power through it, so seems Id need much more than 10 gauge if I need 12 gauge for the 75 watts to the comps. or is it because of the length of the speaker wire compared to the length of the run from amp to sub box.?

Speaker wire size is a preference for interior speakers (12-16 gague is acceptable) for subwoofers (8-12 gauge would do). Run speaker wire from speaker to crossovers(if any) then to amp.

I use 12 gauge to my sub as well. You can get away with smaller wire for the interior speakers, but to me it's easier to just buy a 50 foot roll of 12 gauge and be done with the whole system (though I have one run of 12 gauge for each voice coil). But there would be nothing wrong with doing 8 gauge to the sub either.

Yes length of wire does come into play a little.

alright, got some 12 gauge cheaper stuff (audiopipe) speaker wire for comps, and some KNU 10 guage to wire each sub to the box inside the box, and KNU 8 gauge twisted for the amp to the box.
