MTX vs USAMPS

Recommended Posts

I'm in the process of trying to decide between these 2 amps :

MTX TE1501D Elite $339

USAMPS MD-2D $319

The car will be a daily driver.

The subwoofer will be :

RE AUDIO 15" SEX

-or-

RE AUDIO 15" SX

I've heard the MD-2D isnt very clean, but I do love USAMPS from my expierence in the past they are GREAT amps, but for my pricerange these are the 2 amps im looking at. I have no expierence with MTX, so I ask you what is a better amp?

What are the Pros and Cons of both.

Also would a MD-2N be overkill for a 15" RE SXX? Would an MD-1DN do the job?

have you considered a sundown amp? like a SAZ2000 or SAZ1500 or even a SAE1200d (280 bnib)??

and i have never personnaly used either of those amps! but my buddy has used the mtx one and i didn't mind it! i actually thought it was pretty good!! so from my buddies point of view go with the mtx!

I have not read any complaints about the MD-2D, the MD-1D is plenty of power for most installs.

Wow that is very interesting, can you show me a link to the data that states that feature? That would definitely be a deciding factor for a Daily Driver Setup!

I called USAMPS today and spoke with them about the 15" SXX Dual 2-ohm Sub woofer and they recommended :

6.0cft Ported Enclosure tuned to 35hz

1500watts RMS at 1ohm

BTW another thing I noticed the MTX lists some nasty THD and SN Ratio Specs :

MTX TE1501D :

# THD at 4-Ohm RMS Power: <0.5% <---that's at 4ohms and already terrible imagine at 1ohm!

# Signal to Noise Ratio: 69 dB <---thats not on par for a new age amp

USAMPS MD-2N :

THD at 1ohm 0.03%

Signal to Noise ratio: 89dB
