Wall Enclosure

Recommended Posts

We will be finishing up on my son's car soon and I have been wanting to wall-up my ride for a while now. I have a '93 T-Bird and I really have no need for the back seat. I have thought about a newer vehicle, but the old bird runs and drives great and I work very close to home. I allready have a pair of Saz-2000 amps and 150' of 1/0 welding cable. I am deciding as I write this about the SA-15 Presale.

My thoughts about the wall are as follows: From a rough measurement I have

31-31.5" height

42" width

22-23" depth

These measurements should give around 14.75cu' gross

I would like a slot port centered with a measurement of about 29.5" high and a width of 6" thats 177" at almost 17" per cu' (is this enough port or should I sacrifice volume for more)

With that port and the length about 26" tuning would be about 35Hz

Figuring a double baffle in the front and sub disp. I would have about 10.5 cu' of net volume.

So if I was to use 4-SA15's they would have slightly over 2.5cu' each.

Jacob said the SA would work well in a compact enclosure.

The face of the wall would basiclly be flat with the port in the center of the 2 pairs of subs.

This is just a starting point of the wall idea, I am posting this for feedback and SSA member ideas. My goals are to be as loud as I can with what I am working with, but still have some sound that is still enjoyable to listen to while driving. ?? Yes we all want the best of both worlds!

I'm not a specialist, but this looks good. even if I don't like walls so much. It's cool to look at, but usually that don't leave a lot of room for driver and passenge r.

I hope your car is strong enough for all this weight :peepwall:

!

What speakers will you run for front stage? On what amp?

You may need a few speakers to "keep up" with the 4 subs !!!

I know you got mad skills, so I will follow this build !

At this point no front stage items on hand. I am thinking possibly 4 sets of CX60CF or the CX60K Bravox on a Sundown SAX-200.4 if $ allows.

You think big !!! 4 sets !

Why don't you try to fit an 8" midbass, a 4" mid and a 1" tweeters on each side ? It might sound better than several sets of the same speaker.

I would love to do that in my car, but I can't find a good installer for that kind of upgrade.

X2, seems like a good idea, and could cost less as well (amps and all).

I'm not near comfortable on recommending box calculations to people, but i would think that some more port area would be nice. Then that makes the box seem small for 15's, but if Jacob says its cool i wouldn't doubt him. You do have the extra power on tap for the smaller volume.

If you are the one building this than it's gotta turn out good. :drink40:

Thanks for the vote of confidence!!!! I had a wall setup back in the 90's and I loved it. Just been having the ich since I been working on my son's car.

I like the design layout! As Jake said it looks good on paper and seeing your sons car this will be reality!

Tuned in for this one!

Been rechecking measurements and I think I can squeeze another 1.5 cu' out of the area I'm willing to give up, so I can get a little extra space for the subs and some more port area-I beleive about 206cu" of port total. :fing34:

Sounds Awesome to me !!! :drink40::popcorn:

Thanks!! I'm excited to try this out and see what it can do!! Got another vote in for ya today!! :fing34:

Stayin' busy keeps me out of trouble, well except with the wife. May be a little while before I get started, want to have more equipment on hand so as not to be waiting on stuff.

There's a house across the street, move on in. Just think what we could come up with.

Dibs. As long as the house is still available 10 years from now. :suicide-santa:

364.3 In^2 of port sounds perfect ;) moar port is always good

For daily, I'd be aimin at enlarging internal volume and decreasing port area...

Daily setups want the larger boxes because of the typical tuning frequency and the type of music being played.

Because it takes a lot to hear a shift in loudness, maximum possible port area isn't a primary goal compared to proper internal volume.

Most of the acoustical energy from the driver comes from the port, the woofer exciting the air inside the port makes the deebeez. Julian did not suggest the maximum port area, that was the MINIMUM port area to maintain port linearity.

Precisely ;)

Thats why i said Moar is better.

With a gross volume of about 17 cu' available, I don't see any way to get that much port area (364cu ") and have any internal volume for the subs.

A slot port with that area I figure at about 6 cu' / and using round ports I would need like 6-8" ports or 4-10" ports. That just seems insane....

Can someone enlighten me on this, thought I had a rough plan but now my old brain is confused. Thanks

Go with absolutely as much as you can fit. Julian used Vance Dickason's formula for calculating minimum port area.

I originally used this and it showed just under 300 cu" and thought I was doing good by getting 225 cu" with 29.5x7.5 port, even that is big! Thanks
