Front Stage issues, help?

Recommended Posts

I have 4 7inch Carbon Fiber AAs and a SAX 100.4D with a Alpine ida-x305s. My problem I have is when I turn the volume up on my head unit to the volume where my subs play great at the 7" AAs cannot keep up and I start to smell them very strongly, if i play them at a level where the AAs are playing fine my subs are barely moving and the volume on the head unit isn't close to where I set it at regularly. I had a previous front stage of (2) Alpine Type R component sets and they played amazing at the level I play my subs at.. because of this i have cut the remote wire on my 100.4 and have not been enjoying them. I don't know if it's because of the install/leaky door.. or if it''s because i need an equalizer. I have the AAs crossed at 80ish hz 2500ish hz on my 100.4

If you need anymore information let me know please.

Thanks,

Dom

Here is some pictures of my door --

AA Carbon fibers are where the Type Rs are.

They weren't good enough for you. So you turned them off completely to have no front stage at all at the moment? :trippy:

Try tuning the SSF higher?

I would start by checking your gain levels. Are the AA's correctly wired? You might have them wired to a low impedance at the amp causing them to be driven by too much power. Or you could be simply putting too much power to them and are overpowering them. Possibly the Alpines could handle it but the AA's can not.

I don't think that'll work.

Turn off your subs and set the gain to the volume level you want your subs.

Yes, wired correctly and they're only getting 100w with 1/4 gain.

So....can you just lower the level of the AA's that way they don't run out of steam so early?

Or do they simply not have enough output for you when you reach their limits?

How to "fix" it depends on what the actual problem is.

Is it possible you're clipping the 100.4?

Need more details.

The problem is when I turn the volume up on my head unit 3/4s the way the AAs seem like they're bottoming out really bad, the excursion is waaay past its limits and they sound like shit.

I don't think i'm clipping my 100.4, the gain is almost all the way down and i have the electrical to back it up so they AAs aren't getting a dirty signal

how do you get that turning the SSF up wont make them bottom out so fast? :puzzled:

It's already high, so i'm thinking it's something else causing the issue, like a vent in the door or somethin' of that nature. Not bashing your idea..

?

?

Set the gains on the 100.4 correctly. If it's not loud enough, that's all you have...... make a change.

You said turn off my subs and set the gain to the volume level i want my subs.. my gain on my sub amp is fine and so is the level my subs play at.

I know the AA's can get loud, i've gotten a demo of them before.. something is just fucked up here.. user issue, doubtful but possible

Low pass, 80hz ~ 2500hz

I say high because i see install after install where the AAs are playing at 50-60hz

Yeah, that seems weird. What are you using to set them? the amp?

Try running them full?

You turn your HU up to volume "x" at full tilt. ok

turn off the subs so they do not make a sound. ok

set the gain on the 100.4 to your max HU volume above.

then turn the subs back on.

They bottom out before i can reach my "max HU volume above" even with the littlest gain.

i still think the SSF is too low, IF you're just eyeballing the position and what it "should" be. I'm running the same amp/mids but have them running full. I had the same "problem" and messed with this stuff today as well. Got a lot louder. Also check what slope you have set for these. if there isn't much of one it can be just as bad as having the SS set too low.

Sorry if it seems like i'm beating a dead horse, but im just not satisfied with you "think" it's not the problem. Its worth a shot at least? :peepwall:

Those are his Type-R's, not Carbons. I'm asking if they are sealed, or IB.

Um, raise the crossover point on the AA's, or steepen the slope, or both. First double check it is even on.

Problem fixed, amp was on low-pass.. switched it to high-pass, bingo :)

Thank you Mark ;)
