Aero ports

Recommended Posts

Im going to building a box here shortly that will use aero ports. Reason for this post is to hopefully find someone who has dealt with my particular problem before. Box will require 3 aero ports each about 17" in length 3" in diameter. An experimental ABC box. although i have no more than about 11.5" depth to work with (internal)

The box will be going into a s10 so not a ton of depth to play with. I will need to use elbows in my ports. I really like the precision port kits but they dont seem to offer an elbow attachment. I took a look over at parts express and it appears Dayton makes kits that do offer an elbow..although reading a review on the elbow piece someone says the ID of the elbow is not a true 3" which will throw off tuning obviously. At first i wanted to just buy a few precision port kits and just purchase the dayton elbow but that same reviewer says that doesnt work, so i need something else to use.

Has anyone ever used aero ports with elbows successfully? What kits did you use as far as brand? Im also going to need flared ports so that is another thing that needs to work together.

If you have some useful advice or links to products i would really appreciate the help.

lol, thanks. does anyone have any hands on experience with the dayton aero port kits? They are advertised as 3" ID but a reviewer has said differently and im not sure how creditable that person is.

gumby, and cablguy are masters of aeros. However if you are looking for a more practical aero port, a pvc pipe will be a true 3" aero, much more affordable, and much more reliable. I have used several aero mainly because of limited depth man.

you can find TRUE 3" pve and PVC elbows all over bro.

alright, i thought about just using straight up PVC but i wanted the flares that come with the kits. Does anyone know if the precision port kits http://www.psp-inc.com/products_3.html are compatible with regular old 3" PVC elbows, if they are then thats all i needed to know.

I was looking at that link in the last couple of months. Here is another option I saw while looking on that site: http://www.subwoofer-builder.com/flares-10mm.htm

Thats a good option, not sure if i could pull it off but good to know. Think im just going to use the dayton 3" kit which from reading several reviews is actually 2.75" ID, it will lower tuning a little but should be fine. thanks.

PVC elbows are WAY different. ABS is a much thinner plastic. ABS servers a very different use compared to PVC in the construction world which makes them nothing alike.

You want the end of the port at least the diameter of the port away from the insipid wall of the box.
