What's the drawbacks of having a vented pole driver, that's in a shallow box, where the backplate is 1/4in from the wood?

I'll explain why I'm asking after I get a reply.

It can make noises -- also if the driver relies on the pole vent for air cooling it can hinder thermal performance.

Could it cause the sub not to perform like it should?

I recently put my 12 Fi Q in a 1cuft net sealed box.

Well, let's just say I was surprised in how terrible it sounded, and the output.

I've had it in a small sealed box before, but inverted. Sounded fine, but my JL w1v2(designed for small sealed boxes) on less power in the same box was better all around.

I was just curious if that would effect the SQ and performance.

I know I need more power, a Q doesn't start shining until at least 1000RMS. I usually like 1500+. Just because that's how I roll. I've had upwards of 2k on it before. Mechanically it didn't like that much power. 60hz it would play full excursion.

A lot of things. A good bit of threads are around here with stuff Sundown is currectly working on.

Jake seems to let everybody know what's going on when he's ready, so if he hasn't posted it yet, there is probably a reason.

Looks slick. Was wondering how the out put would compare to the sa12. I got a 2500d so I'm stuck between 4sa12 or 2 x12 when it comes out. Now 5sd12's sound tempting...decisions,decisions.

Prototypes arrived today... working on doing full break-in to measure official specs. Honestly I am super happy with the prototypes -- I do plan to tool a magnet boot and put our logo on the cap but I don't think any other changes are needed at all.

SD-2 12" Measured Mounting Depth = 5.25"

SD-2 10" Measured Mounting Depth = 4.75"

-----

Early price estimates -- MAP price (actual price paid from dealer)

(SA cost for comparison)

SA-10 v.1 : $185

SA-12 v.1 : $195

SD-2 10 : $150

SD-2 12 : $160

Pre-ordering would be something like :

SD-2 10 : $115

SD-2 12 : $125

That would be shipped in the continental 48 states.

Once I do some testing we'll have an ETA and a time when pre-ordering will begin.

* Quite a bit less depth than the SA series for depth restricted applications.
