Box for 2 DC XL 12s

Recommended Posts

I have a 2002 Silverado 1500HD crew cab that I am wanting to put 2 xl 12s in. I will actually be underpowering them a little with about 1300 watts a piece when wired together to .5 ohms. I am not wanting a blow through I just want a box that may not take up too much room so I can have at least one person ride in the back.

What volume would the box need to be? And how much port area?

If they are truely seeing 1300 apiece (have you clamped it) go around 3.5cubes with atleast 16" of port (personally id do 18"). Are you going to compete with it? If you are wanting numbers step up to 4 cubes and tune around 40hz. 30-35 for daily.

Yeah it should be around that. I have had it at 2600 at .5 ohms. And I want it for daily but to be able to do comps when possible. And it 4 cubes after displacement?

Yes 4 cubes after displacement. Tune it 39-40 hz and 18" of port. It will give u some numbers and still be able to blast the lows well. Most trucks react well with subs forward and port up. But I have had good luck with subs and port up in my dime.

Any ideas on port and sub location and direction?

I hope you are referring to 16²-18² of port PER cubic foot of airspace inside the enclosure.

That isn't a whole lot of power for those woofers. I wouldn't be scarred to try a larger enclosure. I need some information first.

1: What type of music do you listen to?

2: What amplifier do you have?

3: What electrical modifications do you have?

4: Why do you want to run below 1ohm?

I listen to whatever really but rap/ hip hop more than others.

I have the crescendo bc2000

I have done the big 3, put a stinger spp1500d under the hood, and ran it all in 1/0

I want to run .5 ohm cuz I don't want to get another amp and thats the closest I can get to the rms of each sub. And its probably gonna be temporary

Does it have to be 12"s? Why not 15"s?

I know you want to sit someone in the rear but forget them. LOL

I think you would benefit greatly in output by switching to 15"s.

Well I already have the 12s. But I may sell or trade them

Oh OK. Never mind then. LOL

Personally, based on power and music. I would 5³ after displacements, 80² port, tuned to 36Hz.

Sub up port up. Port to one side either behind driver or behind passenger.

Yes I was talking about port per foot at 18". And yes 15's would help, even on that power level 4's with upgraded coils would work well if you do decide to sell them. At 5 cubes make sure the subs load well. Even if you decide to switch to 15's they work well in a box all the way down to 6.5 cubes. But DC seems to like big ports from my experience on the meter.

That will be a very efficient box, I approve! :D

I agree with the air space though since the XL's can take a crap load of power.
