To stay with the idea of being able to use the rear area I had to come up with a way to incorporate a sub into this area.

img4533h.jpg

img4534bp.jpg

img4535t.jpg

Started with the idea of facing the sub up firing to the windsheild, but then started to think I could keep the initial appearence of the rear hatch area by firing the sub toward the passenger seat. I think for this vehicle and the thoughts of the owner(not really being a heavy bass person) this would be a great way to go. My area to work with was not at all a perfect place to get exact measurements but the area came up to about .75'. The recomended space for this sub Kicker 10C84 is between .5 and 1.2 sealed. So this should be good.

Started with a baffle mounted to the metal structure completely sealed.

img4557a.jpg

Very close to the bottom structure of the storage-well when sub is in.

img4558m.jpg

Test pic to let me know the overall look.

More to come...

This battery is being replaced with an Optima red-top.

img4538s.jpg

img4537v.jpg

These relays have been moved to the battery side from the storage side were the sub will now reside.

img4536xl.jpg

A few changes in power and ground connections.

Sub enclosure complete. I used the fiberglass compartment of the storage area and added the front baffle, then installed a vertical plate on the area in the center of the vehicle and then added the top plate. I went around the area that the top plate would mount and added a half inch ledge to secure the top plate too. You will notice that the top plate of the enclosure looks to have a overhang, that was planed and will make sence later when the factory storage lids are re-installed.

img4566k.jpg

The Optima installed. Instead of using aligator clips for his battery tender, I added eyelets and the harness is connected and now he can just plug into this connection when needed.

Looks great. My dad had a 79' Stingray. Awesome cars, but definitely not alot of room. I have riden in the t-top storage are before as a child when my sister had the passenger seat, so I can appreciate the limited space you have to work with. Love the amp, really like the ease of a 5 channel on small installs. Interested in how it performs. Great work so far. Tuned in.

And can we get some vids of this one please?

Thanks for the post! There are a lot more challenges up front than in the rear for these vehicles when doing a simple build such as this one. Still would have loved a better front setup but I think the owner will be happy. The 5 channel is really compact, hope it can deliver.

I will get a vid this time, I have not been very good at adding vids to my builds.

Some overall shots of the rear cargo area completed. You will see the trim panel installed over the sub section and the battery compartment and how that worked out.
