At long last, the RL-i8 is slowly but surely making its way through production :runlaugh:

Big performance in a "little" package, with the improved features we had been hoping for.

:bigok:

Among the key differences to note:

  • Improved Suspension for Greater Overall Efficiency
  • New Basket featuring slightly Smaller Mounting Depth Requirement
  • Lower Moving Mass & Lower Inductance
  • Lower Fs, Lower Qts, & slightly Higher Xmax

These drivers are currently on sale and will perform optimally in the following enclosures:

  • Sealed: 0.2 - 0.7 cu ft

That's one sexy driver.

The thing that really jumps out at me is the ultra small box requirements ... now that's attractive.

Looks like my e8a from behind with a black basket.

Is there any clearance issues with the cone touching the basket on the downward stroke ?

If my e8a had that much throw i think it would hit. Maybe uts because of the flat cone though

If the price is right on these, 3 of them might end up in my trunk.

Not through its linear throw to be sure. I will be pumpin' some seriously excessive power to the driver this week and will see if this issue comes up, but it looks to offer acceptable clearance so I'm not expecting any problem.

Not hard to take it off. :hay:

This driver is 3dB more efficient than the older model and also features a copper shorting sleeve which will be sure to improve the sound quality. Enclosure characteristics will be comparable.

Looks great Mike!

I may very well pick up a pair (or 4, or 6) at somepoint in the future.

I presume high frequency extension is still rather limited on these?

Those baskets arent really that deep for how much throw the woofer has.
