bld9220's first real build

Recommended Posts

This is the first time I have actually built anything but test boxes for my subs. I have had 9 other cars and I never have them long enough to put a real system in them. This current build will be for my 2006 Mitsubishi Endeaver. So far I have a Stinger SPP2150 up front with my stock alternator, I have already done the Big 3. I am using the stock headunit, Epiccenter Plus, Kenwood Excelon amp (at most it puts out 100x4 into 4 ohms), Hertz Hi Energy components in the front doors (soon to be relocated to kick panels), Alpine Type R 6.5's in the rear doors, a Hifonics Brutus 1700.1d, and 2 12 inch IA Lethal Injections. I am selling an old pair of Alpine Type R 12s and the Brutus to a guy I know, and I am hoping to get a Cresendo BC2000d, and in the future I may upgrade to a pair of Icons.

Now the build will be a little slow because of the weather. In Alabama it has been unusually cold and I'm not shit in the cold. Also I have work and school, which for some dumb reason comes first. Now onto the build.

The box will be 4 cubes after displacement tuned to about 34 hz, depending on the kurf. The box will be double baffled and flush mounted.

Here is the dirty ass car all of this will be in.

Kurf Cuts, I really wish I would have seen the Kurfing 101 video before I did this, but I didn't

The original design had the woofers catty cornered but I made the holes a little off (seriously barely a cm off) and the woofers fit weird so I said fuck it and cut off the front of the box, made a new front and woodglued and fiberglassed the new front on and then put filler in the cut to make it smooth.

And here is what it looks like now.

That cut in the box is to store extra fabric when I wrap the box.

Nope I only have a circular saw. I wish I had the money/space for a table saw.

Do you use a jig to guide the circular saw? Or is that free hand cutting?

All the cuts on the box are free hand, except for the kurf cuts. For those I took an extra piece of wood and clamped down and used that as a straight edge.

The port and front of the box have been painted (averagely), but it I think it looks ok. I got tired of sanding and I ran out of filler, so I went ahead and painted it.

Forgot to update the build, but the build is now on hold. I think I might be getting a new car. I am looking at a 2003 Honda Accord and a 2006 Chrysler 300. This box might be completed and put in my Endeaver, if I keep my car, or modified and put in a 2006 Ford Explorer. Only time will tell.

Awesome work on the enclosure!!! :drink40: Keep us posted on the change in vehicles. I can see why you can never do an install. You got the enclosure built and now you are changing vehicles again.

Thanks man, I'm glad to get some good feedback. Most people I know don't know anything about car audio.
