All sorts of cloudy here tonight :(

I know he has some sweet shooting grounds.

I am now, unfortunately, back in the suburbs for the better part of summer :(

Should still have some good scenery to shoot on most weekends though! :)

About 30 minutes after I posted my first post in this thread my mother-in-law calls. She asks for photography tips on photographing the night's moon. After a bit she suggests that we go to the family cabin to take some pics. Her, my father-in-law and my wife and daughter pack a night sack and head up. On our way up to the cabin it starts poring rain. LOL at least I picked up a case of beer. I was able to get a couple pics in but nothing like what I hoped. The clouds were very thick and the moon only peered out for seconds at a time. It didn't look any different than a normal full moon anyways .

Wifey and daughter staying warm around the camp fire.

Very bright moon shinning through overcast skies.

Uninspiring supermoon shots.

All in all the picture opportunities weren't there. But we had a good time together and I caught 5 fish in the morning smile.png

Low iso, get your focusing and shutter speed spot on and crop the hell out of it ;)

cheap telescope and aluminum adapter for eye piece... less than 100 bones and you can get like 500mm... trippy.gif

^ I would also downstep your aperture as much as possible

or is that not correct? i've never actually cropped a photo more than a few %

You can do that as long as you are not trying to capture any foreground structures.

Also, manual focus and tripod is a must.

Reason why you would want a low iso is to keep the noise to a minimum when doing a tight crop. A tripod is needed because the shutter speed will be slow enough that it will not be possible to hand hold the camera and maintain a sharp photo when cropped. If your lens has a vibration reduction feature you will want to turn that off.

The last photo I posted was a crop of the second photo I posted which was also a crop lol. The last photo is about 20-25% the size of the original photo.

I'm actually looking at the canon 10-22mm ultrawide for sale used for $545 at my local camera store.... it's tempting due to the large amount of landscape photos i shoot. Glass is purrrfect too.
