Alright need mids....

Recommended Posts

im thinking about doing an active front stage, and i decided to use a

Vifa XT25 1" large ring radiator for the tweeter:

http://www.zaphaudio.com/offaxis-XT25.gif

and something for my midbass/midrange.... i was going to go with the

Ascendant Audio polymid which would mate perfectly with the Vifa, but

apparently they are out of stock.

i was also looking into the RE XXX mids, but i have read that they do

not perform as well as they are hyped up to be. they get low, but the

midrange is lacking clarity...

other drivers i was looking at were:

The Seas Reference (RW 165) (freakin expensive)

or

The OLOGY delta

i am looking for a driver that can play low (below 80hz ported or

sealed) with authority, and up to around 1.5-2khz where i will set my

crossover at.

horns.... if i get get the full bodies to play down to 800hz, all i really need is a midbass then... however, if i go horns, i need xtra eqing and such, and i have no rooom for that in my car.

There is a reason the XXX mids were never available as a complete component set. There were designed to be used as midbass drivers only.

The single most important piece of info you forgot to include is the application. THIS will be the determining factor for your decision.

I have two speakers to choose from for my mids in my install, the XXX and RE Koda, and I have the same tweet. I gotta finish my setup, but i'll let ya know what i think.

Vented mids. I have the perfect candidate. The 7' Revelator. Hell, even the 5.25"s can be monsters on the midbass. The Rev's have an EXCELLENT midrange. Smoothest I've heard.

Go to the PAC parts site and you can get the Alpine revs for hella cheap.

The REV's got the highest marks in the component showdown in an older CA&E

Or it might have been mobile entertainment.

Im going IB, no room for kicks with my big feet.

Im jst looking for something that will have some nice punch and get plenty loud.

Stock mounting location is low on the doors so they need to get loud to overcome the low mounting position.

Id rather have a better/louder frontstage than a sub stage.

edit... nvm

also theses alpines = scan-speak no?

Correct. They are slightly tweaked Revelators.

Elias, funny thing about that test, and it was CA&E BTW, the Alpines were 5.25" drivers and the rest were 6.5"s. :fing34:

ya, i know

I was suprised that that lil bugger could do so well

My main dilemma is money.

The Arbiter's were right in the budget. Shure there is better but they will cost significantly more.

$200 is right where i want to spend for mids/tweets.
