My First "Real" Jeep Build

Recommended Posts

This build wont be nearly as impressive as many of the other members, and will slowly take place over time but figured I'd post anyways so I can gain criticism, and possibly help others.

Ill start off with some pics my jeep, and my old system.

2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo roughly 134,000 miles on it Bought it in October with around 132,000

Now for the new, Picked up a few sheets of 3/4 MDF From Home Depot (Still trying to figure out box designs)

IMG_20130103_020713_zps4098c27c.jpg

Bought a Rockford off my sisters Boyfriend for $40 to run my front speakers, along with my HFI 1500D

IMG_20130103_021125_zps0b81671c.jpg

Picked up about 5 of these from the Junk yard hoping to cut it out for a double din dash (Jeeps have 1.5 Din stock radios)

Awaiting my 2 15" D4 Bstock Obsidians

stereobill_zpse54a52b8.png

$60 Cheaper then non-bstock just hoping for the cosmetic issue to be on the side of the sub woofer you don't see, if not oh well.

Also found this amp in my basement trying to find out the specs online cant find anything on it though seems really old still works though.

Only thing as of now i know about it, is it's 6 channels.

IMG_20130103_024656_zpscad0fbeb.jpg

*Edit* Just noticed how small this amp looks compared to my cat, amps pretty long but my cat is a 18 pound fatty

Subs up port back for the sub box

What kinda speakers are you running in the front?

Right now I have DS693 6x9" 280W 3-Way speakers up front, Not quite sure what I want to replace them with yet though, and I'm still pretty clueless about this box every time I make progress in a design I start over because I feel like somethings not right.

id just find one of those you like and go from thier.

You would have to switch the port to the side tho, so it would be sub up port back.

Sealed ~ 2.0 to 2.5 ft^3

Ported ~ 2.5 to 3.75 ft^3 @ 28 to 32 Hz

Cutout: 14.0"

OD: 15.5"

Mounting depth: 8"

Mounting flange to top of surround: 1.5"

Displacement: 0.19 ft^3

or someone here could make you a design im sure.

I would get 6x5 and make an adapter for whatever you plan on doing.

Got a bit of video of the subs in action had more I must of deleted on accident, anyways

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bS5lRRTndM8

(This is using a sealed box that is too big, and isn't sealed correctly at all box has major flex issues)

Gonna have to get some sound deader, but this weeks leftover money go towards a new box.

Gonna have to decide between new front components or sound deader with next weeks.

ahhh this is what i googled

Written by CompJLT from Texas on Jan 13, 2011

I bought this wire as I had seen it described as 100% copper but in reality it is copper clad aluminum. The wire is fairly thick; not quite as thick as some high end much more expensive copper 0 gauge wire but not as thin as some cheap "0 gauge" wires that are out there. Being that CCA is not quite as good of a conductor as Copper i'd say consider this wire as a 2 gauge and not a 0 gauge which would still be fine for all but the most demanding high current systems.

Would I recommed this to a friend or family member? Yes

Pros

  • Wire is thick

Cons

  • CCA not actual copper

How do they know its allulminum? By the color? It could be pure copper and is just tinned to make it corrosive resistant.

Roughed the -11 weather today and got the box, subs installed (Excuse the saw dust on the subs)

I didn't take the size of the surround into place, and almost had an unfortunate event, BARELY Squeezed them in

IMG_20130124_165811_zps64cafffe.jpg

And a very short video below, as I said it was Freeeezing

So driving home from school today bumping some music at about 1/3 volume and BOOM My subs completely cut off, I look at my remote the light is off, I look back at my Amp the Logo is still illuminating? At this point I'm super confused. I get home look at the amp nor the power or protect light are on. So I checked my inline fuse from the battery to the amp and see this

IMG_20130126_013126_zps7c0b985f.jpg

Now this Fuse is rated too low for my current setup and I knew this, but I was trying to avoid putting in my new wire/fuse until the weather got nicer.

So in this lovely Upstate NY Weather I rewired my amp today.

Bought some Soundquest 0 Gauge to 4 Gauge converters to clean up a bit, was really messy shoving 1/0 gauge wire into a 4 gauge hole.

Planning on doing the Big 3 Tomorrow, and possibly building a new box on Tuesday.

Also thinking next month I'm gonna upgrade to some GCONs or ICONs not sure yet though.
