It is the laundry list of engineering changes between year 1 and 2 that scare me. They don't always surface as things that "cost" you.

I agree that it could be there. You litteraly go from a hand full of test vehicles to thousands in a year so there are bound to be changes.

Unfortunately I don't have someone at Hyundai that could give me a nice list of the differences.

15years ago, I'd agree. Now, I wouldn't be concerned. They cover everything up anyways.

It is shocking how many which is why I recommended against it. From a guy who helps trouble shoot the NVH ones, it is nuts.

GM has the MOST advanced NVH lab in the world, yet shit like this happens:

That is just a small NVH issue. The other shit I see dumbfounds me as well. Enough so I wouldn't ever buy one. Don't mean to sour your purchase, but there will be all sorts of nitnoys that pop up during its life. It happens with EVERY car manufacturer. The Germans may be the worst though.

It is SO MUCH worse now than ever before. The stupid gubernment is putting all sorts of pressure on everyone to change everything for MPG. Structural components aren't strong enough, testing on drivetrain parts isn't done, all sorts of things occur.

Hell I know of a car that had a boom like the GM, but the cure was to slap a 7lb brick in the tailgate. I've also seen structural steel components changed AFTER manufacturing has been going on for a while. The electronic ghosts are the worst ones though.

Exceptions to the rule can be mild refreshes. ie, no electronic package change and no new drivetrain.

Who wants a first year 8 speed tranny?

First year direct injection motor?

First year drive by wire?

..and so on.

A wash rinse repeat, who cares, but those are rare these days.

You didn't and you won't. I appreciate the input

Being an engineer I KNOW it's a possibility. I did some research and based on what I saw I felt comfortable taking the risk. Will there be major issues? After 2 years on the market I doubt it. Will there be minor annoyances they fixed? Most likely.

When it came down to it, based on cars my wife liked and features we desired, we could afford a 2014 Espace Titanium 1.6L or the 2013 Santa Fe Sport 2.0T. My wife greatly preferred the Santa Fe so we went with it.

They don't ever retrofix unless it is a safety liability.

I purchased a first year with the intent to sell it.

Only the known injection issue so far.

Right, I meant that they fix it in later models.

You guys have any experience with Husky floor mats?

We are looking to get them or WeatherTech (or anything else people might recommend). I have Weathertech in my truck and they've been good but slip a little more than I'd like. However, they seem to work really well in my dad's Lexus so it may be an application thing.

Buffeting is such a common problem in large cabin trucks, though. I think the worst I have ever heard was a friend of mine's Dodge Dakota king cab (circa 2007-09). The buffeting made it feel like someone was taking a sledge hammer to your skull. With the rear windows down going down the freeway it was retarded... It almost made me sick to my stomach.

That is different, this is a booming. ie, all windows closed and it still occurs. I've done a shit ton of work helping different places try to measure and understand buffeting to make it modelable, but booming is something that sneaks up on you once ou start lightweighting.
