Yea i haven't made a post in a while.

but came across this today.

Well let me say this I went to the audio shop to grab a couple ft of 1//0 and they want 5.60$ per foot.

I know its cheaper online, but weldingsupply.com has thier black 1/0 on sale for 2.15 or 1.99 if you buy over 50ft.

Any of you attempt using anything bigger than 1/0 with any luck? I'm thinking about upgrading to at least 2/0 and calling it a day.

only difference I have noticed is the jackets... doesn't seem as "sturdy/durable" ...not that it isn't durable but the weldingsupply wire jacket is beastly and makes it harder to deal with... even at the same gauge

you need 2/0 welding wire to equal 1/0 car audio wire

that's why the 1/0 is cheap, it's smaller

iirc

Are you joking?  This is one of the most idiotic things posted in some time.

AWG is AWG unless the manufacturer is lying.  Welding cable will always meet AWG spec, car audio may not...

That myth was formed because the diameter of the conductor for welding cable is smaller than most car audio wire because it's less stranded.  That's the only reason.

That myth was formed because 90% of people are too ignorant or lazy to properly inform themselves about products they are interested in. That's the only reason.

Physical construction may be different, that is it.  The cross-sectional area of copper will always be the same unless the manufacturer is lying, which is almost never the case with welding cable, especially cable that has been rated by a reputable US third party.  Swap-meet garbage "car audio" power cable is where you run into erroneous AWG identification ...

You saw it (mistake) on this site last year with a cable comparison.  O.D. of the conductor portion was measured.  This tells you absolutely NOTHING when dealing with straded wire.  NOTHING.

The only way to make a meaningfull comparison is to measure the AWG of the individual strands and then count every single one.  If you don't do that, don't even try and compare cable.

good wire but the case does slip, i found that using a good heat shrink at the ends helps it from sliding.. and i do mean good heat shrink not that skyjacker shit.

i have been using this wire for years and years.... i was a  prick and kept it to my self.. i did share with steve mead .. but thats all..... its out of the bag now!! :D

The Royal Excelene I just bought is stamped 50mm2 on the jacket, which is technically smaller than 0/1ga by 3.5mm2 assuming it's an accurate number and they didn't just round for simplicity sake.  But worst case 3.5mm2 isn't enough to make a difference in any situation but those maxing out the capabilities of the wire, at which point it would be wise to step up a gauge anyways.
