for now on all my enclosures will be built out of Baltic Birch

better quality , nicer to work with and it weighs a lot less

I'll have to test fit it tomorrow before I continue and see how the port fits up to the hatchback lid

this Baltic birch is hard stuff..... takes forever to sand compared to MDF

once I'm done with this one I was informed it would make a good 2 man speed sled

give it a coat of turtle wax for maximum slippage.......dual purpose.....  LOL

the test fit was a success........ it could not be any tighter

I'm liking the Baltic Birch ... I can barely lift my old Icon enclosure made of MDF

.... I can pick up this new one and throw it across the room ... should help level the Magnums ass end

Even though my box is 10 times smaller, I can definitely agree with the weight difference of my birch enclosure compared to my last mdf enclosure.

the shit is harder to work with though

the Kerfs are SPRING loaded  ,  if you are bending and let go watch out  ...  LOL

Haha luckily I didn't have to build my last enclosure but thanks for the heads up :fing34:

I loved working with it when I built my enclosure for the Jimmy. Much lighter, easier to cut and shape, but so much more expensive that it's hard to justify the price difference IMHO.

You sure knocked it out of the park with that enclosure though, it's a beautiful work of art!

Well get them subs in there! :)

got the subs in....

I'm not shure if I'll like the tuning or not so I'm going to leave it bare wood and play with it for a few days

it is slightly louder in the upper sub range  than the 28hz box but  , some detail and impact is gone

ya so this is one of those WTF moments.....

I must be getting old..... anything tuned higher than FLAT sounds like shit to me now

What did you tune it to

this one is tuned at 30hz..... JBL's recommended tuning ( not mine ) 30hz is too peaky for my taste ....

I had the subs in my old Icon enclosure for the last couple weeks... it works out to 28hz and it sounded really good

so I put it back in this morning  .... not much room for improvement in SQ so I'm going to leave it as is for now

ya... yay me... LOL

that's the last enclosure I build for this car , I'm going to put a fiberglass pod and sub in each corner

and build a nice amp rack and add a couple more batteries once I get my components installed

You'll get rid of this one, for fiberglass pods ? :dammit:

What components finally ? The JBL gti or the focal utopia ?  :dj:

(I'd love to have a set of gti 660, but it's too expensive for me !).

I had 2 sets of the JBL 660gti in my ground pounder , they were by far the best components

I have ever owned so far and I would not hesitate to use them again  but a buddy of mine is

the main Focal rep for the BC interior ...... he just had to show of the #7 component kit to me

I'm thinking on using the Utopia's , put the midbass in the doors and the tweets and mids up

in the pillars ...  only decision is going fully active or use the cross block

if I use the cross block I can still bi amp and use time alignment ... less chance of popping those tweeters

he wanted to sell me the new Focal Utopia Ultima component set serial #002 ( pic below )but I think my

wife would divorce me and never let me see my kids again......she would probably have me commited and

put away......  LOL
