Using a car audio sub for Home Theater

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if anyone had any experience with using a car audio sub in a home theater setting? I will be getting a Crown amp that is somewhere aroung 4k - 5k watts so power shouldn't be too much of an issue. I was mostly looking at building a box for a single 15" since the box for a 18" jumps up in size considerably. Any info and/or help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Eric

Some car audio subs are better home than home subs and some home subs excel in car.  A sub is a sub.  Only question is what exactly you mean by home theater.  If it is truly for special effects and such you will need a LARGE box as it is regularly logical to closer to 10Hz than to 20Hz.  Would never tune that low for music.  Obviously then picking a box and driver that fits your needs is paramount.

No way, no how will you need 4k watts to power 1 sub in a home though.

I'm running a "car audio" 8" sub in my home theater off maybe 35 watts, in a sealed box.

You will not need anywhere near that much power for your entire setup. Just Saying
