JL Audio Contacts Elemental Designs Over Patent Infringement Concerns

Recommended Posts

this isn't the first time ED has copied someones design though. I can't remember what it was but they copied something else almost exactly. It was a while ago, I'd be surprised if I could search and find it.

I know which driver you are talking about. I think it was a low-profile 8" that was made by Tangband or somebody else doing OEM for ED. If I remember correctly something went south with the design being sold to other clients or used by the company doing the OEM and ED decided to make their own. I think it was on Parts Express for a while.

I hope JL can tear them up, honestly.

all i saw that was close was the basket... :puzzled:

and its sad if they went through all the trouble to copy a JL !!!

i would think there are common parts from "Build Houses" unless JL has a patin on that basket ???

i saw a Funkin sub that looked just like a Soundstream from the side but the cone / spider / coil were different

JL patents pretty much everything they do...it's a fair bet that basket is protected from others using it :)

x3. like eclipse did with the Ti basket for years. and knowing ben, they copied more then the basket...soon it'll be advertised as the greatest thing since internal combustion.

i don't like jl, but respect their r&d in every driver. i hope they end eDuhs existence.

I detect a hatred for eD from many members. Wondering why? :puzzled:

I'm by no means a jl person either. But I do know, and have talked to Manville Smith on several occasions . I opened my audio shop shortly after jl first went into business. When I asked about carrying thier products, I ended up talking to Manville for a good hour or so :D . Three days later Manville showed up at the door with a couple w0's in hand :D One thing I will always say about JL . Is that they are on top of thier business :)

ed-jl.jpg

No one can argue with the first pics. But the second and third ones don't really look like patent infringement to me.

The W7 has the screwedup mounting system...the ED doesn't (Ben probably couldn't figure it out)

The cone on the second pic is a similar design TO MANY cones....hope JL isn't going to push THAT.

And the bottom ED pic, looks COMPLETELY different from the W7. And completely different from the top ED pic. :???:

The designs are different enough not to warrant any concern. They dont even use the same mouiting design so no big deal. This is like windows suing lindows. Its a big dog trying to kick a little dog in the nuts. I don't like ED, but this SHOULDN'T go any further IMO.

Depends on if the guts of the sub have something that JL patented. I hope so, I'd like to see eD and Icix go the way of the Low-Hz. Shady fvckers shouldn't be in business.
