  1. Interestingly, I discovered that ARC Audio recommends almost the exact same enclosure and port for their ARC 8D driver. "SQ" .7 cu' 2" x 12.75" tuned to 32hz or "SPL" .75cu' 2" x 4.5" tuned to 44hz Does this seem right? edit...The ARC driver looks very similar in build to the Image Dynamics. I compared T/S parameters and they are EXACTLY the same..... same driver! ARC wants $60 more for theirs.
  2. Thanks for the input. I have 2 of these drivers in my truck on a Zapco 600 watt amp and they are unreal. Have been beating the s*^& out of them for 4 years and never a hiccup. The one in this enclosure sounds pretty good, just not comparable to my truck, less power and in the trunk. I don't hear any port noise in the car, but am sure there is some. I thought before I just bought another one I would see if some of the newer long excursion models may be better for this application. IF I were to redo the port in this box, any input on what length a 3" port would need to be. I don't have any of the programs needed to model enclosures any more. Thanks again.
  3. Thanks again. That may get more envolved than I'm willing to do for this project. This is a very limited system that was just intended to improve the crap factory equipment. We retained the factory head unit as we wanted to keep the factory Bluetooth, separate radio display/rear view camera display, steering wheel controls, etc. There is a small 5 channel amp installed under passenger seat (Soundstream PN5.640D). All new speaker wire, doors deadened, replacement coaxials all around. It surprisingly sounds much better than I anticipated. My goal was a budget system, with decent quality components, and a solid install. I was an installer for 20 years in mid 80's to early 2000's. Competed at IASCA National events in early 90's. However, I have been retired from it for quite some time. I REALLY don't want to lose any more trunk space for her and question the amount of power that really comes from this amp, tho not willing to replace it. I could redo the port to a 3" if I had to, but would rather not since it has been carpeted and existing port is recessed nicely.

  5. Thanks for the speedy reply. The ID is a 2 ohm DVC driver and this amp won't last long at 1 ohm load. So before I buy the same driver in 4 ohm DVC, I wanted to see what other options are available. The box is built to ID specs, with the 2" port. I really should have known better but did not think it thru well enough. The enclosure I built with my kid ( first build together!) so I'd like to try and salvage it..and yes its already been carpeted. SOME port noise can be tolerated since its in the trunk. No depth concerns, would like to keep ported enclosure vs sealed.
  6. Hello all and thank you in advance for any help. I am in need of a new woofer for an existing enclosure. It currently has an Image Dynamics ID-8 v3. I am interested in the Sundown E-8 line but have been unable to get ANY help thru Sundown. I am open to other brand drivers as well. This is a budget/low power system in my daughters first car. Will be have approximately 250 watts supplied. Needs to be a 2 ohm load. Enclosure is .76cu' GROSS volume. 3/4 mdf construction. Port is 2" x 11" sch 40 PVC, flared on outlet end. Port can be modified in length only. Woofer and port rear facing in 2013 Honda Civic sedan. Thanks again for any help in suggestions of box modeling if anyone is able. Matt

Help me understand the x-over on 50.4

My headunit has HPF/LPF . They only go to 140hz tho which is why i need the x-over in the amp as well. So if I set my headunti crossover for sub around 80hz, as well as 80hz for hi-pass, how would I set up the amp? What amp are you going to use for your sub and what head unit are you using? Rockford Punch p200.2 for sub and Head unit is Pioneer AVH3200bt

Help me understand the x-over on 50.4

Thanks for the reply. I want to run the other set of RCA's to the sub amp so I can control the sub seperately from the HU. Also, there is a SSF on both sets of channels, what happens with the channels on the tweets in relation to the SSF? Also, If I want to set the LP x-over mor the mids thru the HU, I won't need to use the SSF on them either.
  10. Well the more I study the x-over section on the 50.4, the more unsure I am. Basically I want to run two channels to my 6.5 " mid-bass. I'm planning on using the LPF on my HU so I just need to x-over the top end, not sure where yet. Then the other two channels to my tweets thru HPF on amp. The sub-sonic filters on both sets of channels has me a little confused. Could someone be so kind as to tell me a good starting point on ALL switches? Also I'm running one set of RCA's to the amp and the other set to my sub amp. Can I use just one set of inputs or do I need to use Y adapters (would rather not do that because of any signal degradation, tho probably not much). Thanks again in advance.

    Info on 50.4

They will share one feed of 4 ga, spit to 2 very short runs of 8ga thru fused distribution.

    Info on 50.4

Yes, I am going to run my comps active. I realize what the rated power is, but know that some amps are rated conservatively (as well as low end amps being vice versa). I'm replacing an eD Nine.4 with the 50.4 due to it's x-over mainly. The eD is rated at 65x4 and most claim it does a bit more. I'm hoping the Sundown will have compareable output, especially with no passive x-overs in line. Is this amp widely used for this application? I see alot of people use the 100.4 for this but not alot of info on the 50.4. I have space limitations (install is in an '09 Silverado crew cab). Maybe some input from people using this amp in a similiar set-up could chime in? Also, for those of you familiar with the Punch p200.2, will it be adequate to run with the 50.4? Also, the 2 amps will share 4 ga power, a 3 farad cap, and the big 3 has been done as well. Thanks for the responses.

    Info on 50.4

Hi all, New to this forum, veteran of Car Audio. I just purchased a new SAX50.4 to run my front stage active (6.5" Silver Flutes and Vifa Vifa NE19VTC ). I know next to nothing about the Sundown amplifiers, but like what I have read. I would like to have as much insight on this amplifier as possible. I mainly bought it for the flexible crossover section, and the good things I've read about it's quality and customer support. I have a RF Punch 200.2 I plant to run mono on a single eD 11kv2. I'm concerned about the two amplifiers being a good match. What kind of real power can I expect from the 50.4? I'm not looking for extreme volumes, but of course want good sound quality at a pretty good volume. Please give me any info on this amp and opinions my set-up. Thanks in advance!
