    Factory Avalon ported door enclosures

Just some random closet excess. Old SS Granite 60.2 for the mids and either a powered 10" Bazooka tube or an old L7 10 in a good ported box/Cadence ZRS 500 watt combo. Nothing serious, just a little bump in the trunk. And thanks for the adapter idea. I can't believe I never thought of a mdf adapter ring. A friend has some beefy old school RF 5 1/4 mids. I may give that a shot soon.
  2. Not really sure where to post this but in my 30 yrs experience I've never seen anything like this and thought I'd share. I bought my 16 yr old daughter a beat down Toyota Avalon for her first car. It's got a junker JVC head works but the sound was extremely anemic. I popped the trunk thinking a cheap set of 6x9's would be a quick fix but these cars never had rear deck speakers. Well shit, I'm pullin door panels. That's when I saw them. ABS ported enclosures? Harmon made? The factory speakers were trashed, foam surrounds completely gone but I was intrigued. I grabbed a set of 4"ers, went to install and found out they're 4 1/2" holes. Cant really open the fronts up without cutting into the port. Dammit...google. Parts Express has the only speaker 4.5" three screw mount I found. They're Bose, $26 each, and they're 1ohm. $104 plus shipping was a little more than I wanted to spend on something that could possibly end up sounding meh. So for now she's rocking some cheap Pio 4" with foam weatherstrip to seal the gap. Sounds ok but needs a little more power. So here I am, Sunday noon, about to install amps, hu, and a sub I've got layin around into a teenage girls car. At least she likes rock. A little softish for me but it is rock!

    Hey

I've been on a few other forums but really lost interest in those because of the stupid and arrogant. Thought I'd try this one out and see what's up. Hello.

    Box critique?

I built this box for my sons Scion. I did it this way so we could still use the area for light duty cargo space. 1.8 ft^ @34 hz with the port running straight along the back. It hit's decent for the L7 10 and Cadence 600ish watts. I know this isn't a killer build but as of right now I only have about $200 in the HU, amps, sub, and comp sets. Budget build for a kid kinda thing. Unfinished because I'm still on the fence... Messy here too for now... Here's the current port exit area. It's a little tighter toward the bottom than I like and why I brought all this up. I've been thinking of switching to a Sundown SA-12 in the same box running the same amp. Is the downfire/side port a bad idea? I could change it to sub front and port side, maybe port rear, but I'd rather not have the sub up or rear because of potential school kid damage. Or would I be better off for the SA by burning the damn box and starting over with around 2 cubes and some turns in the port?

    Just saying hello.

I've been into car audio since way back but not so much hardcore for the past 15 years. Now with my son driving it's just a little too much fun getting his car bumpin a bit. I am not a mass poster and came here because a couple other forums I've checked out seem to be more about drama than the jam. It looks clean here...I like that.
