  1. I have decided that I am open to trying a 6th order blowthrough for my XCON and will pay someone to design something for it. I currently am doing a ported box with a small adaptor over the front to channel it in through the ski-port but have been reccomended to just try a 6th or 4th order, I love the sound of 4th orders but the XCON is not so suited for that so a 6th order would be the go here. I am after a response resonably flat between 28hz and 50hz or so and the port has to exit pretty much central to the width of the box. The port can be external by 80mm at the top and about 110mm at the bottom and have max dimensions of W:320mm X H: 185mm (Internal Dimensions) as that is my opening to the cabin as pictured below: http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z68/8adk1d/Car%20Audio/IMG_20140310_172154.jpg The box itself can have External Dimensions of W:1000mm X H:370mm X D:600mm That is my current dodgy thing, does pull a nice 141' @28hz though http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z68/8adk1d/Car%20Audio/IMG_20140314_181733.jpg Thanks for any help!
  2. I'd like to do something like that, a 4th order would be great but probably not really suited to the XCON. A 6th order I don't know what to design and really don't want to blow this thing up, tuning one chamber to the fs and the other an octave or slightly less up is all I could really think of doing, port area and volume sizes for both chambers I do not know. I just had this box made so I'll see how I go but I thought someone could give me a pointer as to what is this effect of "In" excursion like its getting sucked in, I reduced my port area over my previous box so its not really adding up to me. BTW how do I change that frickin name in my profile, its 6 years old and I'm wiser.
  3. Ok basically I had an ok box, performed well'ish, ported 2.4ft3 60sq" port @ 33hz, then I made an adaptor to sit over the front and channel the ported box into the cabin via the skii port. This worked a treat and made it much cleaner sounding and changed my tuning down to 27hz. Now, I have a new box finished I payed some $$ for and its 2.8ft3 tuned to 32hz with 50" inch of port, the concern is pretty much straight away below 32hz the sub seems to sort of get stuck in and doesnt excurt properly and have stuff all output also, what is this and what can cause it?? I know it could be a lack of backpressure in the box but the new box I thought was a much better design than my old one which could delve from 33 to 28 and still have decent controll and at no frequency did it do this "Stuck in" excursion. My only hope is that when I make my new adaptor entry to the cabin that it will lower tuning to about 30hz sealed to cabin which is perfect based on 27hz being very nice but perhaps a little too low in response and It will add some back pressure to stop the sub from excurting "In" my old box sealed into the cabin was doing 141@28hz and 138db still at 24hz but the long port of 1.8m was creating ugly port echoes in kick drums or any frequency above 45hz to about 55hz and also excursion went mental at 36hz for some reason like a bad spot and I was hoping this new design would fix all that but now theres a new very ugly problem Old Box: http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z68/8adk1d/Car%20Audio/IMG_20140507_193039.jpg http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z68/8adk1d/Car%20Audio/IMG_20140314_181733.jpg http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z68/8adk1d/Car%20Audio/IMG_20140314_181223.jpg http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z68/8adk1d/Car%20Audio/IMG_20140310_172154.jpg ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ New Box still making adaptor for that continues a 45* port entry instead of "splat" into the wall of the adaptor: http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z68/8adk1d/10717790_785156258210464_1376268556_n.jpg http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z68/8adk1d/10726708_787424414650315_540361306_n.jpg http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z68/8adk1d/IMG_20141019_191418.jpg
  4. I measured both outside and inside and then worked out the middle distance from that......the calculator said its working it out for the inside length?? (Carstereo.com)
  5. Hmm ok, but its close though yea? tuned around 28/29hz?
  6. Also TOTAL OUTSIDE BOX DIMENSIONS ARE: - Width = 500mm - Height = 260mm - Depth = 350mm
  7. I know it may take some time specially being designed in mm (As I live in Aus) but can someone or as many people as possible confirm roughly these figures??? Also, feel free to use this design and enjoy!!! BOX HEIGHT IS 260mm, 224mm are Internal Dimensions as all pieces join to TOP/BOTTOM ------------ --------- Also I designed this for a 8" Rockford Fosgate P2D28 sub w/ a bit of extra port area for sub upgrades that may have up to 13mm in XMAX such as say a DD sub (P2D28 has 9.5mm)
  8. Hey, just contemplating buying a Fi Q 12" off someone and he claims it is "Fully-Loaded" and after asking him is there is any proof of it being fully-loaded he said no. He then said now that he thinks of it, he's not sure if they are, as he only got told that when he bought them off someone else. So, is there any way we can verify if they are fully-loaded or not? Say a Imprinted serial number somewhere and you might have that particular build in your files somewhere and you can see if they were upgraded? Oh he has 2 for sale, thats why i said "If they are fully-loaded or not"....my mate might get the other one!! Thanks, Regards.. Craig

why is "SQL" looked down upon, so much?

To me a loud system that can play music without sluuring the bass together along with no MAJOR dips in frequency response and not missing out different instruments in the song AND no distortion / very little distortion is """"SQL"""". I think its subjective and we have different perspectives on what it means and there are many different intentions behind using the term...but yea ok its not technically correct

    IXL 12" v.1 Recone???

I prefer sound quality over output, well actually I dont know.......just, I want to be able to play all notes well and not sloppy but i want it to be making my hearing flutter which low notes like 28hz do well, pretty much how it was in the house except without any dips in output from 38-80hz and without a very steep roll-off at 31hz downwards. Also I'm a bit tight even when i have the money to get such subs, I just cant do it, i cannot spend $500Au on a sub or $500Au in total for two, its too much I think I'll officially get another IXL 12" and hopefully building a T-Line box for it as soon as i get it, but yeah, I probably wont get one for at least 2 months because I'm not exactly in the position to be buying things right now!! So as it stands, another IXL 12" will be coming, and hopefully i get in before Affordable Drivers run out of v.1 IXL's Ohh also i cant remember if i mentioned it before but by using a T-line enclosure, it should be pretty evident when its over-excurting and i can just turn it down unlike when the voice coil heats right up i couldnt even see it coming because i can usually hear distortion but this time i didn't hear it at all.......

    IXL 12" v.1 Recone???

Na its ok mark, thanks anyway.....its going to cost too close to or more than a new one after shipping and all

    IXL 12" v.1 Recone???

@ Adrian_D : Yea its louder in the car at 40hz or so but no where near it at say 30-36hz or anything else, i was shocked as logically it should be louder in a car and i was expecting it to be. Yea I guess, he needs to personally check the car out and do tests himself to properly do it, which isn't possible. I thought i could just tell him what sound i want for him to be able to work something out. I want a reasonably flat response until 36hz, then from 36hz down to 26hz or so I'd like it to really come to life and give people a strangely pleasant reaction along with me uncontrollably raising my eyebrows I'm actually thinking of trying a T-line for my next box, and with a low FS and perfect T/s specs for a T-line on the first series of IXL's, maybe it will turn out quite good.......I know it drops power handling but at least I'll be able to easily hear when I'm over excurting the woofer rather than it just heating up without much notice. It was not even moving that much at the level i had it at when it blew up. I have ran it free-air before and it moves far more than in the box and pretty much handles all the power it was getting in that video. Theres actually a free-air vid in my youtube profile and it was taking the same amount of power as the vid of it in the box so, well, maybe the t-lines the way to go for me

    IXL 12" v.1 Recone???

I don't know if Sam's got any IXL15's in stock in Aust I think its only 18" according to the website?? That may be an issue...... Don't suppose you want to off-load the dead one off really cheap do you?.............. Cause if you do I might have a go at doing a re-cone (BTW was that quote for Aust stock recones or from Mark @ Mach 5??) Jono The quote was for Mark @ Mach 5 to send the kit here yes.I could sell it to you REALLY cheap but the shipping would still be a fortune man, it costs like $150 or so in shipping just to get an icon here.........but then again it wont cost you much to get the re-cone kit, hmm still....it would end up costing a bit I'd imagine. Na they dont have the 15"'s in stock but arewell probably just get a 12" again and make sure i dont blow it up, otherwise my dad would get pissed off for wasting my money haha....ohhh and I'd be angry too of course.

    IXL 12" v.1 Recone???

Hey Sam, yea I'm on MEA, my user name is "8adk1d" but I dont really do much there, i just look around.Yea I dont know how i did it really, I think i just gave it a little too much power and Its given way on me but yeah thats the way it goes i guess. The reason i wanted a special design is because even with the recommended box for the IXL, I'm not going to get the sound i want in my current car because of the cabin gain and it would still be too fluctuent in response as it is now, the box i have now is a little small (1.8 cubic foot, before sub displacement) and tuned roughly to 33hz with ample port area and so i was hoping i can find out what i need to do to get the sound i want working with how it sounds in the car. It changed a damn lot going from the house to my car. I'm going to have to get a new IXL because its turned out to be $195 AU for a re-cone kit shipped to where i live and I'm definately not going to re-cone it myself. If i get someone else to do it, it will end up costing more or it will be too near the price of a new one, in which case I'd prefer just to buy another IXL.......maybe a 15" this time Btw that sub in the background is actually a Rockford Fosgate "P2/D2/8" haha
