    Buddy Guy

Bout time I make a new thread! I just got home from seeing one of the all time Blues Greats perform! Buddy Guy! He's one of the few real original bluesmen left, one that has influenced many of the great guitarists, won 5 Grammy's, and is in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame! He's 70 some years old now, and he's still got it! The man could easily out play most guitarists around today. (Those who know me, understand that I do not arbitrarily or blindly say things like this without good reason!) I've been playing over 22 years, and it was completely awesome to finally see one of my guitar idols! Freekin' Awesome Man! and on that note............... "You Damn Right I Got The Blues!!!!"
  2. God, I don't even have to try anymore to re-affirm that my prior statements are indeed true.................................. What I'm really amazed at is how eager you were to point this out! Hang out a while, I'll turn you from the dark side of the force!
  3. Pertaining to the topic at hand, and the obvious........ I'm consistantly amazed at the rate in which stupidity and in-consideration perpetuates from one generation to the next........ How hard is it really to turn the damn system down???? -z

    Screws vs. Brad Nails

Uggh...... Now I remember why I stopped going to forums.............. Obviously you missed the material and observational learning part on the job sites. That or relating whats learned to similar projects. Building a house is a thousand times more complex than a simple subwoofer box. Yet both involve nails, screws, and glue. Of those 3 general materials, I've seen litterally thousands of houses, buildings, complexes, stores, where nails and glue have failed. (And created quite a headache for repairs) Screws on the other hand, even rusted from weather, 98% of the time were still fastened in their original loactions, and continuing to serve their intended purpose. Now the real funny thing........ Of your (emphasized) "hundreds" of destroyed MDF Enclosures where the glue joint has held and the wood has broke; I can also point out the (emphasized) "thousands" of times that I've yet to see a screw fail before the wood breaks in MDF, HDF, PLY, CDX, OSB, Particle, etc...... If the wood glue alone works for you, so be it. Your general statement of wood glue being stronger than wood screws is where I have the problem. On that note, I'm done with this one.....................

    Screws vs. Brad Nails

Pretty general statement there isn't it? I have over 14 years experience in the construction industry, and I'd typically put more faith in the wood screw than the wood glue. I've seen wood glue seams break infinitely more times than wood screws pulling loose.

    Jl audio opinion?

<-----------Had that experience on many occasions! Old school doesn't mean useless. With some brands, older is even better! (If only Fosgate could figure that out!)

    Screws vs. Brad Nails

Depends on the enclosure really..... If its larger, odd shaped, or built primarily for an SPL Application, or even if it is to house a "monster" sub, then I'd say wood screws all the way. Smaller enclosures, you may be able to get away with brad nails and glue. Yes, brad nailers are a lot faster. I use them to mock up all of the enclosures I build, even the ones that eventually get wood screws. My own preference is to use wood screws on any enclosure. Simply from a strength point of veiw. Give the brad nailer a try. They have plenty of other uses if the enclosure bit doesn't work out.

    Jl audio opinion?

The past few years I've tested a number of W7's and found consistant break up at different frequencies where it appeared to be a weak spot or gap in the drivers performance. Fairly minor nit picks overall. Sure, in my opinion, there are equally capable drivers out there, however, The W7 series is still by far a great driver worth the current price. ---> Bear in mind JL Audio does a lot of in house R&D. The tried and true W6 line has stayed true since introduction. Magnificent drivers, rugged, reliable, and accurate. I'd honestly consider the W6's JL's "Flagship" series, as they have stood the test of time from one generation to another. I'd venture to say that if you have problems with the W6 line, they are likely user related! Overall, I don't really think that JL Audio has made a true "bad" speaker yet. Sure, some are obviously better than others; but in my experience with their products (and there has been a hell of a lot! ) they have always performed fairly well, and I have no regrets.

    Off Season plans?

Not much system wise. Going to wrap up building my Mustang some time soon, then enjoy it for a few weeks, sell it, and begin the hunt for another car to build on. My Cougar is asleep for the winter months. I'm finally going to get around to putting those new Cobra Headers on it, as well as a complete new custom exhaust. Headers, collectors, X Pipe, Flowmasters, and downs. Also need to fix a few small paint problems before next show season. I'll be fixing some minor surface rust on my Tbird's rocker panels and re-painting them. Also going to take care of the cursed EGR problem that has been annoying me far too long. Other than that, I'm goning to do a crapload of Auto-Detailing for stress relief and fun. Above all, I'll be spending more time with my family. Think that about covers it. At least for tonight it does.....
  10. you need to get your butt over here more <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Why. You like it dontcha? Building another car....... Again......... Think I said the same thing for a different car last year too.......

    anyone had alumapro?

Had a pair of Alchemy 12's a while back. I'm still kicking myself from getting rid of them. They are some killer sounding drivers. Now if only they still made them like they used to.....

    pc vs mac

Mac's arent too bad at all. Gotta love the G5. They are definately a step ahead in the market by their hardware and software designs. In other words; at least you know that you aren't going to have to download 40 updates immediately upon installation. The problem is, people who try mac's then get frustrated with them, are 99% of the time trying to use them like Windows. Sorry, it works different.... Windows isn't nearly as bad as everyone wants to believe. It is by far the most user friendly OS available, thus it's popularity. Aside from the annoying "Beta Tester" feel that accompanies Windows due to the large number of updates needed constantly; I have seldom ever had any major issues with the OS. I am convinced that those who do have issues with Windows, could possibly be a victim of their own stupidity. Machine only does what its told to..... Linux- Mandrake Bites. I have never in my life seen a more disjointed complicated pile of crap than Mandrake. Even the simplest things are made into a highly complex mess. Suse, Red Hat, knoppix, aren't too bad. Just take a little getting used to. Very powerfull OS that more people should really consider. Hopefully IBM's new open source offerings will make this possible in a big way.

    Teh New hottieness

No. A little maturity wouldn't hurt here.... Last I checked this was a car audio forum. Not a dumping ground for images of half naked women. Plenty of other sites out there for that gents. Control your hormones.
