its a 15 guys. whats a sp4 motor worth? its fully loaded

i am just going to sell this thing and get some nasty 12s instead..will still be FI, but just not this sub anymore

It just sucks man, cause this is my fav sub, and every time this happens i have to wait forever for the recone and run that damn Hdc4...which is nice, but i prefer FI. it makes me nervous about getting a Team FI

Yeah, you have way more power than the driver is rated for...  That is kind of a big determining factor. 

 

BUT, I am not saying this is the only reason you had a failure, you just need to keep it in mind...

So my 1st sp4, caught on fire in my trunk, i was told it was user error (even tho i believe it wasnt) - as i own a Tripple stack btl, hdc 4, Mtx 9500, DD 9500, hdc 3 10s, xfl 12s, and none of them have caught on fire.. but now this Sp4, the damn lead came loose from the coil i guess? i took a pic of it. Im sure this will be ruled as user error (even though i more then likely will not agree with it) however, you guys are the experts so i was wondering if you could let me know what may have caused this.. Everything was perfect, 1 coil just stopped working..

 

Is there also a 10-15 business day turn around time? Need one asap!

it was a 50 hz test tone at -6 db if i recall..but here is the kicker. since this incident i have not changed any settings and have been running a hdc4 15 with no issues..also a dd 9515 for some time. this whole situation left a sour taste in my mouth but its what i expected..working in customer care my self, most companies dont take ownership of sitations but its the way it is. Maybe i can afford another sp4 or team fi sub one day..i do however believe this was not my fault, and if you guys are saying that there are only 6 cases of this issue, isnt it possible that out of the thousands of subs produced, it is bound to be a few that have defects?i think this sitation could have been handled better by fi, but it is what it is.

The thing is music is so dynamic and at different peak levels. Some songs clip to begin with.

Yes you can set it with a tone and a reference level but that doesn't guarantee anything on music. If you want to do it at a high peak then sure but that usually leaves a lot on the table.

I'm willing to help but just want you to realize a scope isn't the end all be all of setting gains.

Only exception would be if you are competing in a burp class and only playing a tone.

And rick you forgot taste. I can usually taste a coil getting hot before you can smell it. Lol

We don't sugar coat the truth, if you disagree with something that someone said then you need to state that and explain your reasoning. Don't resort to name calling or you will be gone quickly.

 

 

How low is low to you?

Usually 33hz is too low for a DD9500 to sound good.

I wouldn't trust a guy on caraudio.com to design my box, I hope it wasn't cvx 412 or something like that.

Has that DD9500 gotten a recone from PSI?

it actually is a guy name dbeeze, he's a good  builder, very legit and no i never got a psi recone. would have liked one from fi tho honestly

 

have you tried laying the rear seats down?

 

have you moved the box around in the trunk or changed its orientation (port forward, back, left, right, etc) ?  

have not played around with it, but i will say this much, idk what happend but for the last 2 days, for some reason it has gotten lower..and now its actually starting to sound amazing. the highs are good and the lows are rumbling also. maybe it just needed a little play time to break in or something? never the less, i traded it for a dc level 5 18, then traded the 18 for a hdc4 cause i didnt have enough space for the 18, and im more then happy with the Aq sub now until i get my Team FI Sub

If you haven't. I'd first look into perfecting other areas of the setup. Possibly sealing off the trunk. // Or Deadening the trunk in addition to adding MLV (dampener doesnt block low frequencies, it just stops whatever mat'l its applied to from vibrating). // Find your trunks "breath" ports and close them off // See what you can do do build a larger box // upgrade alternator and or battery bank // Drink snapple // Eat a slim Jim... etc etc.

Anyways.. Box probably isn't ideal for the sub, every sub is going to need a different box to be optimal.

Assuming you just popped the sub in the box you already had, that's probably it,

i def can see how that may cause issues with the dd. but idk man, i didnt feel like when i made my post i came off as an ass or anything so idk
