Usually a specific frequency (which can be found with a simple frequency counter, like an Optoelectronics Scout) and encoded with a simple 555 timer circuit. Used to have a schematic around here for building one, but I'm sure they're floating around online somewhere. Whatcha up to

Glide-touch = awful. My 7894 hasn't given me a reason yet to think about replacing it. It's a few years old, and may not be in absolutely mint condition, but it keeps working
