  1. So my teacher tried to make me look like an idiot today in front of class because I told her I couldn't access the files she posted on our, "lionslink" website. She then proceeds to say, "ok everyone who could access the files raise your hands." I'd say a little less then half the class raised there hands and she says, "ok now who couldn't access the page?" and of course the rest raise their hands. She then says, "ok well obviously some people know how to PROPERLY access the page and perhaps you should ask them how to do it."

Here is when I get extremely pissed and appalled at what she just said. So I but in and say, "Ok everyone raise your hand if you know what the northbridge and southbridge are and were they located on the motherboard and what there purpose is." I think like 1 person in the class raised his hand but he was pretty hesitant. So I then say, "ok so obviously I'm not computer illiterate and the vast majority of the class has no idea what I just said, so before you decide that I don't know how to do one of the simplest tasks on a computer you should probably not assume I am an idiot."

She then says, "ok I'm not trying to argue here I suggest you go ask the help desk and see what they can do for you." and the class continues. God I was so mad at that woman for putting me on the spot like that, trying to make me look stupid.

Sounds like a beyotch of a teacher. Is it a small or large class? In a big auditorium class, then she should tell you to talk to her after class. However, in a class of <100 people she might as well tell everyone. Making an example of you in front of the class does nothing productive.

  2. what is that? Oh, have you noticed any health gains dennis since you've been riding a MTB?

GMAT is the test to get into business schools. I'm trying to get into the Masters program for accounting.

Definitely. I've been losing fat and I'm slowly starting to see my abs. Cardio is also better and my legs are getting bigger.

I also changed out my trek frame for a specialized stumpjumper fsr expert :)

oh nice sir nice. How much did that run you?

    $350

what made you want to swap? What was wrong with the trek frame.

    the whole soft/hard tail thing...

That would be correct. I was getting too much whiplash on jumps with the hardtail.

  5. and here we are in the midst of a drout :(

yea dude...us here in MD are suffering with the lack of rain as well

We have been getting dumped on for a few days until today.

Strangly we aren't getting myuch rain either LOL

    J

    neither are we :(

It was 85 and raining at the same time the other day. Felt like the rainforest, a very smoggy, polluted rainforest.

  6. So yea, bought the Specialized Rock Hopper bike yesterday, went on a 5mi+ bike ride today with the roommate....

I grew up wearing jeans, hell I NEVER wear shorts, haven't worn any in public in Years, yea, kinda sweated a little bit biking...

I've got to wear some shorts though next time... damn.

Gotta get a fricking tan too though. :(

A new one? (sorry if you mentioned it before, I haven't been around much)

Glad to see someone else biking :)

  7. I have actually never ordered a sandwhich at a viet restaurant. I am always curious as to what people like that I haven't eaten and usually run out and try it. Considering I haven't met anything I won't eat, it doesn't limit things much. *note, I haven't travelled in Southeast asia where I know there are "foods" that I wont' eat

Yeah I know what you mean by going out and trying stuff that others like. The guys from the shop, when I was hanging out with them, took me to a place were they had a dish called "the bowl." It is seriously one of the best things I have ever experienced food wise. It's beef, pork, shrimp if you want it, those cashew nuts, noodles and I think soy sauce splashed on it. I'm sure there are other ingredient's because the dish is spicey but I can't remember what all was mixed in it. Wonderful wonderful wonderful, oh man I might go get one today, hahaha.

Wow I didn't know they actually had Viets out there. Glad to hear you like Viet food and I know which dish you're talking about but we usually put spicy fish sauce in it.

  8. They do have those locally, but 10 for $2-3 instead of 50. Shipping eff's it up, but if I spend some more dough the problem is solved.

What do you need them for anyways ?

I no longer have any. My brother just built a house and I used them up. I am not installing anything at the moment. :(

If you can wait until Saturday, I can have you order my Neo 8s as well, and then just pay you the total shipped from your place.

As in BG Neo 8s? Where are you going to put those?

  9. There have to be a ton of those labs near you. Have you blind searched any companies you really want to work for?

Let me lay this on you a bit. At this point in your life you are cheap, therefore if you are mildly qualified for a position a firm probably wants you since they will not have to pay you as much. You can probably guess my recommendation next...go find where you want to work and help them hire you. When you put the word "tech" in a position, your price and capabilities really make you an effective way to get things done. You work for someone who is really into something, but do the things for him. Should be an easy fit and a spot with a very well defined growth path.

If you are having problems finding companies, finding contacts at companies, or want someone to read you resume feel free to PM me. I know that the economy isn't whipping right now, but it seems to me that in particular what you are looking to do shouldn't be. LA+ is also a pretty good bio-tech spot.

Anything in particular you are interested in to narrow the field? I'd start there as those companies should have a vested interest in you since you are already interested in what you can bring them.

To be honest, I'm not very particular about the type of lab tech work I'd do right now. It's too hard to be picky at this point. I'm having a hard time finding entry level positions that require little to no industry experience (i.e. recent college grads). I'll probably send you a PM sooner or later and really appreciate the offer to help.

I was just wondering, is it better to show up to the company buildings and apply in person or is it fine to apply online?

Thanks for the offer on the resume review, but I had a cousin in the business write it up for me :P

  10. Hello Ryan M.

Hey Matt, I sure hope you have better luck than me finding a job with just a bachelor's in bio. I'm at 2.5 months on my job search and still no luck. I'm thinking about going back to school to get a masters now since there's no way I'd get into a pharmacy school. It's rather demoralizing, really.

What sort of job are you looking for?

Biotech. Working as a lab technician or something to that effect. However, the more and more I think about it, the more I'm starting to dislike biology. I'm thinking about going to get an MS in accountancy since I'm nerdy like that.

  12. pharmacy school threw out some weird ass questions and really caught me off guard.

My friend told me there were some weird questions on the PCAT. He said he wrote an essay about the Patriot Act.

  13. Funnies of my day:

My girlfriend's house is getting fumigated. Her dad (an old Vietnamese man) told her to bag up her computer because it might get a virus from the fumigation.

  14. hows the bike doing sir dennis?

It's my new money pit. Bought a new old fork, dual use pedals (clipless on one side, platform on the other), shoes, and padded shorts so far. Now I need a job to get a full suspension frame. If you're still going to get a bike, I would recommend getting an all mountain bike rather than a cross country bike, XC is kinda boring.

You need better XC trails, I would prefer to ride XC anyday but of course where I live fits that pretty well. Single track FTMFW!

I guess that's the kid in me, I like taking jumps and such.
