I started more production of these first week of June; so that should mean we'll have more early to mid September. In the mean-time WoofersEtc will have a good bit on hand of most if not all X series drivers; both customers and dealers will be able to order there. They also have many of the above listed out-of-stock items in their inventory as well -- and again, dealers and customers can order there as WoofersEtc is also a distributor.

    Phone System Move @ Sundown : 8-2-13

Call forwarding on the old number now works. So back to business as usual as far as that goes.
  3. Our phone system is DOWN today completely while AT&T moves our number to the new facility. We've been forwarding it via the internet back to our Talkswitch box in Troutman up until now; but we are getting the whole deal officially moved today. If you must contact us please e-mail bryan@sundownaudio.com and he can ask anyone else any questions you may have as well. I will post ASAP once the phone system move is completed. Our old number will STILL work via forwarding @ the phone company and we will also have a new "official" phone number.

    SA-8 V.2 SPL

DO not used a sealed box for the SA-8 v.2 -- if you want to go sealed you need the SD-2 8

    Phone System Move @ Sundown : 8-2-13

New number to use for now until call forwarding is enabled : 828-459-1980 -- our old 704-528-9700 number will still work after today (assuming AT&T gets it done) as a forwarder to the new lines. We'll be re-working the system a bit to have 3 lines that roll over when one is busy once it's all complete!

    Phone System Move @ Sundown : 8-2-13

AT&T has the new lines setup here (3 lines) -- once our Talkswitch box is transferred should be good to go. Hopefully that is hooked up this evening or tomorrow at latest.

    Sundown X-6.5SW Video and Pictures

Based on the market segment I am hitting on -- a true sub-woofer -- the motor size isn't much of an issue. ----- When you move on to something that is, by design, also a midbass / midrange the smaller motor is a consideration; see NS-6.5CS : http://www.diymobileaudio.com/forum/1721077-post10.html Even then the motor is still fairly large (for reference the NS-6.5CS set has about 12mm linear). Obviously alot smaller than the X-6.5SW but not a tiny motor at all. For reference; the NS-6.5CS midrange costs ~2x to produce than what the X-6.5SW does -- I don't see that hitting the market niche of the X-6.5SW.

Also... ETA is pending on them but my best guess on it is November to December.

    sa 6.5 component set.

We have sold several 100 sets -- feedback is overwhelmingly positive. There are not a fancy LOOKING set but the sound is pretty incredible in the price class -- VERY smooth across the board. The only folks that aren't entirely pleased prefer a sharp metal tweeter sound; as ours is a smooth silk dome. There are no plans to eliminate them from the line; simply to tweak them a bit as time goes on.

No there is not. It would not glue to the cone properly as it glues to a flat diaphragm.

    Sundown X-6.5SW Video and Pictures

Our life-test at the factory passed 300-watts RMS for 12-hours full bandwidth in a sealed box -- so I will probably rate it around that.<br /><br />JUST got the e-mail in confirming that -- we'll also do our own tests.

    Shop Moving Updates @ Sundown

I've mainly been updating on Facebook but we have been heavily involved in moving our location about 20 minutes down the road to Claremont, NC to a much larger facility for most of July. We now have functional shipping, testing, and build room areas at the new location plus a few office guys have transferred over as well. It has been a bit of a long process but it's coming along nicely. I have not yet moved my office or Debbie and the accounting / invoicing systems so it's been a bit inefficient as the data has to be transferred to the new location to ship (aside from Yard Sale) -- but the goal is to move all this by Monday and have everyone working in the same location by then. This should bring us back up to speed again. Also... at some point we will have to cut off the phones for a bit to move our phone number and phone system -- I will post up before we do that and update when the process is completed.

    Sundown : New Amps 2013

Been doing alot of work on some new amp products -- I don't get the time I used to on the forums to keep everyone in the loop but I'll go ahead and announce them today! Production is starting this week so we are looking at ~90 days or so. I won't be starting pre-orders right away but do expect a pre-order at some point once I get more solid time-lines. SAX-150.2 ($400 MAP) : Two channel Full-Range Class-D design (similar to 125.4) -- also runs on 19v like SAX-125.4 SAX-100.4 v.2 ($400 MAP) : Four channel Class-A/B design with similar crossovers to the 125.4 -- but a lower price as it's an A/B amp. Now featuring a fan as with most of our new stuff. This model will run to 16.5 volts. SAZ-5000D ($1520 MAP) : All new case tool about 3" narrower than the 4500D/NS-1 casing; similar design to the 4500D but beefed up to carry a 5000 rating from us. NS-1 v.2 ($1900 MAP) : Same new case as 5000D; will be about 3" narrower / 3" longer than current model with pretty well identical internal components and same price. Many customers were looking to go narrower so we've been working on this for a bit. ---------- Some of the SAE amps will also be launching -- MAP will be close to what I discussed originally. I posted about the "E" line prototypes some time ago; I was very happy with them. Now a few are coming out this year. Case tool will look similar to the newer case SAZ line. These come with remotes / are stable to 16.0 volts (not 16v system stable). There are some changes compared to prototypes and I will get more information up before any pre-ordering goes up. ---------- SAE-600D ($209 MAP) : The board is like the "500D" I posted about a while back that well exceeded the power expectations. http://www.caraudioclassifieds.org/forum/sundown-audio/89173-ns-1-sae-500d-prototype-pictures.html SAE-1000D ($269 MAP) : Little smaller version of the 1200D board posted about earlier. http://www.caraudioclassifieds.org/forum/sundown-audio/107782-sae-800d-1200d-50-4-prototypes.html SAE-50.4 ($159 MAP) : More basic crossover function from our other gear -- Class-A/B design. Pretty much like the prototype but with our tooled case. http://www.caraudioclassifieds.org/forum/sundown-audio/107782-sae-800d-1200d-50-4-prototypes.html ---------- I will start releasing more information as we get closer to pre-orders. Info that isn't here already and pictures will be coming along!

"Magic Box" V.2 For an 18"

Took some pics of the process -- thanks to Brandon for helping me get it done in a timely fashion. * Basic shell complete. We are using mostly cabinet grade Oak plywood (3/4") with some 7/8" ply as well (bottom panel and one layer of top baffle). * I like to use lots of screws... 2" long models. * Temporary guide setup to build the port straight * Outline walls of the port... ready for flexible ply. * Flexible ply installed to make the flare. * Coming together ! * Filling in across the flare with strips of wood. * Wood filler in the gaps. * Fiberglass cloth and resin applied. * Top baffles going on. * Hole cut with counter-sink * In the Jeep ! --- I installed the only 18" I had laying around in there and it is a hair behind the old Magic Box per watt so far... but this 18" had an extra hard suspension which is terrible in a box this small. So... based on results so far I expect this box to pull ahead of the old Magic Box once the correct spider configuration is used. It seems to be functionally nearly identically just with more cone and port area (and a bit more volume).
  21. It has come to our attention that 3 Kings Audio is selling Sundown Audio products. They are NOT authorized and products bought there will NOT carry our manufacturers warranty. Im not to happy right now.....

Occasionally the factory will over-print one type of box (D2 or D4) and use a label to correct it -- I am unsure why they would have re-labeled a box and made it wrong; but that appears to be the case here. If we were notified when the product arrived we would have swapped it out right away as it's a factory packaging error. As the product has been re-sold and used for some time at this point there is not much we can do nor is there any more useful life in this discussion; so I will leave it here and close it.

    Sundown 6.5 Subwoofer Project

Little project I've been working on for a while... first prototype rolled out yesterday. It about 4 1/8" deep -- power handling and other specs will be announced once we finalize the coil (several variations will be tested). Every part was custom tooled; frame, diaphragm, dust cap, spider, surround, etc, etc. It also features an aluminum pole cap to lower distortion even further. Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available =)

    Sundown 6.5 Subwoofer Project

They are shallow enough to fit many factory apps; our dealers requested them as close to 4" as possible so they would work for that -- so yes, it's a target market for them. I have a very nice application in my truck for them -- I'll be down-firing 8 of them behind the rear seats in a ported box.

    Sundown 6.5 Subwoofer Project

We are still developing the soft parts a bit at our factory; here is a video on the 2nd prototype with a small revision we made to the surround material : "Early sample test. We are tooling a new spider to go with it as well. There is some high frequency sound which is a little bit of clipping of the source unit." "Test at one frequency / maximum mechanical travel -- testing for ruggedness." At this point we are beating them silly just to test ruggedness -- so we are pushing them well into mechanical noise territory to do so. When I get my hands on them I'll do more videos at varying levels of excursion, etc.
