  1. LAST DAY for the public pre-order !
  2. So it is a bit confusing due to several updates along the way... so the above should help out when ordering a re-cone kit. We need to know what version you have to built the correct kit. Aside from the box printing being a bit mis-leading it's not super hard to understand using the above picture. The 60 unit run of "v.2" woofers (v1.75) was only sold to a few people who knew up front about what they were -- I just had the factory put v.2 on the box so we would know what they were as we unloaded the truck. But I am sure someone will get one of them second hand. They can be re-coned to standard v1.5 parts with copper coil and hard spider. As the photo indicates the baskets cannot be swapped around. This is due to a bolt pattern variation -- some savvy users have drilled their own patterns and that is fine as all version v1 through v1.75 have compatible motors -- there is only a slight gap variation across generations of those but not enough to make a significant difference when using them together. The actual v.2 model is COMPLETELY different. Someone would have to make custom adapters and/or drill and tap the top plate of an older motor to use the basket. I am not planning to offer this adapter.

Sundown : Reference SQ Component Set

Prototypes are in my truck ; awaiting a good time capital-wise to start releasing them. Likely tweeters first, then mids, then a complete set with crossovers later.

    Re-Cone Prices

To order a re-cone e-mail bryan@sundownaudio.com -- do not e-mail my "sundownz" address if you need a quick response. To reduce back-and-forth e-mails ALWAYS include the following : 1) What you are ordering -- Model, Coil Configuration, Etc. 2) If you already have a basket or not; please check below for any special notes. 3) If you need ANY custom options please specify up front. 4) !!! YOUR ADDRESS AND NAME !!! 5) A picture of what you have goes a long way to be SURE we are talking about the same thing. IT WILL TAKE, ON AVERAGE, 10-14 days for a built item like a drop-in to be completed. ---------- EDIT 8/30/11 : WE CANNOT WARRANTY DIY RE-CONE ASSEMBLY ISSUES. Read and understand this -- if you are not 110% sure about re-coning the driver ask us or send it in. We can ONLY stand behind labor that we perform. Manufacturing defects in the kit itself are of course our responsibility but installation is 100% the customer responsibility. This includes ticking, broken parts, etc. Thanks for the understanding. ---------- This thread over-rides any prior quotes or costs -- I sat down and really calculated the numbers this morning and costs may have varied in the past on estimates. These prices are the same for everyone; Team, dealer, customer, etc. All costs + SH charges. ---------- KITS DO NOT include shims or glue. White paper trimmed / stacked to spec works perfectly for shimming -- use enough where it is snug but not so tight you can barely get the coil in the gap. For glue we suggest Loc-Tite 5-minute epoxy with mixing tubes to glue the spider to the frame (MAKE SURE to sand it first) and we suggest Amazing Goop or E6000 for the surround and dust cap (sand frame for surround and rough up the glue surface of the dust cap with sand paper as well). These can be purchased from Lowes or Home Depot very commonly and some Wal-Mart and Craft Stores. We can sell CA glue by request but it typically is not very cost effective for the end user. ---------- MODEL -- RE-CONE Price -- FRAME Price E8 v.2 (or v.1) -- $28.00 -- $5.00 * D2 / D4 available Stock * MUST buy basket to re-cone a v.1 model E8 v.3 -- $30.00 -- $5.00 * D2 / D4 Available E-10 -- $35 -- $10 E-12 -- $35 -- $10 E-15 -- $45 -- $10 * D2 / D4 Available !!!FOR SA-8 KITS SEE THIS THREAD TO DETERMINE WHAT MODEL YOU HAVE. IMPORTANT NOTE : YOU MUST USE OUR NEWEST 12-spoke 15" FRAMES TO USE THE Z v.3 OR NS v.3 SPIDER PACKS !!!! They are 8 3/8" spiders and require a modified top landing. The other spiders for 10/12 and the 18 are compatible with any 12-spoke / 6-spoke that I am aware of. Also -- the NS cone will NOT be offered on ANY drivers with a v.3 style spider pack in 15s or 18s. The v.3 spiders (Z v.3 and NS v.3) can exceed the mechanical limits of the NS style cones in these sizes. ----------- NEW PLATFORM PRODUCTS (Basket Prices are WITH the purchase of a SUNDOWN product re-cone) : MODEL -- RE-CONE Price -- FRAME Price X-10 -- $130.00 -- $70.00 X-12 -- $135.00 -- $80.00 X-15 -- $140.00 -- $95.00 X-18 -- $155.00 -- $40.00 * 18" Use the Standard 6-Spoke Frame w/ a 257mm Spider Adapter * D2 and D4 Coils Available (CCAW Round Wire) * Add $10.00 for Z v.4 Stiffness Spider * Add $20.00 for NS v.3 Stiffness Spider Z v.4 10 -- $150.00 -- $70.00 Z v.4 12 -- $155.00 -- $80.00 Z v.4 15 -- $160.00 -- $95.00 Z v.4 18 -- $175.00 -- $40.00 * 18" Use the Standard 6-Spoke Frame w/ a 257mm Spider Adapter * D1 and D2 Coils Available * Softer X Spider Available - NO EXTRA CHARGE * Add $10.00 for NS v.3 Stiffness Spider NS v.3 10 -- TBA NS v.3 12 -- TBA NS v.3 15 -- TBA NS v.3 18 -- TBA * -- Both the X and Z v.4 kits / Frames can be retrofit into the NS v.1, NS v.2, and Z v.3 motors; these motors cannot handle the FULL capacity of the new soft parts so a hard bottom is possible. ** -- SPL kits are in development with a different cone and spider type. Pricing is TBA on those. *** -- The Z v.2 motor bolt pattern is compatible with the new platforms as well but we do not suggest it as it has a limited amount of rearward travel (41mm). Sundown Z v.4 12" Prototype In-Car

Derrick has the pics and videos to upload later... but we got up to 145.5 dB @ 25 Hz today in testing @ 1970 clamped watts. We are looking forward to trying two of them on an NS-1 with upgraded electrical when production arrives... 150 @ 25-30 Hz with two 12s... maybe ?
  7. Current Z v.3 style boxes are compatible; but we've tested up to 50% bigger than the Z v.3 style boxes with good results as well, especially tuned low. The bigger box will allow you to take advantage of more of the excursion capacity of the woofer.
  8. sundownz

What version SA-8 do you have ?

Assuming they have the same spider pack that is fine.
  9. Complete measurements added to first post.
  10. First one is complete. This should take care of alot of common and uncommon questions about our woofer dimensions. I am looking into printing them at full scale on our packing boxes as well. I'll be adding them to the X thread when the X drawings are done and will also add them to our site for pretty much every model woofer we make.
  11. No they are not the same; MAP is used in the USA. Your sheet will have MSRP on it.

    Sundown Z v.4 12" Prototype In-Car

The box requirements are on-par with the SA and Z v.3 lines ; BUT the new suspension allows for so much more capacity a larger box can be utilized for greater bottom-end extension with no worries about damaging the woofer; so the box RANGE is dramatically increased.

Typical dB Drag mic position on the glass -- it does the same on burps and music assuming the music is dead-on at 30 hz.

    Sundown Z v.4 12" Prototype In-Car

As a low tuned setup it's not super strong sealed up but we did meter it at a show over the weekend : Two Windows Down = 144.5 dB Driver Window Down = 145.1 dB Both done @ 30 Hz -- we'll be trying two of them on an NS-1 at some point; shooting for 150 dB with driver window down @ 30 Hz I believe Derrick took a good bit of videos of it from the show too !
  15. "This is our upcoming 1250 RMS line being tested free air with nearly 3x their rated power level -- I took it up a bit too far just as an example =) This was taken with a bit newer camera than previously used -- Canon Powershot Elph 16.1MP. The excursion looks a little weird in this video compared to other videos so not sure which camera I'll keep using in the future -- but hope you all enjoy !" From the video caption.

    Sundown X-15 Video on SAZ-3500D

Sorry for the noob question, but what is the advantages of the 18" frames to come later? On the X line -- nothing really; and I may leave them alone with the 6-spoke and spider adapter. The tooled 18" frame will support even larger spiders and will also be a much stronger frame (for our heavier lines). The 257mm spider on our tooled adapter on the 6-spoke is more than enough for the X woofer.

    Sundown Z v.4 12" Prototype In-Car

Was making my rounds to post up on the forums but someone beat me to it ; here is the text from the post I'm making on the other forums : "Quick video we did on Derrick's phone last night. Lighting isn't fantastic but we wanted to get something up as soon as it started playing. I'll have to work on getting another with my HD camera and some better lighting. SAZ-3500D v.2 (original prototype) on the Z v.4 12" D1 prototype woofer -- single 6" aero-port box tuned to ~30 Hz in a box around ~3 ft^3 or so. The VW has a stock alternator and an XS S3400 battery so we went big on the box to avoid pushing the amp hard enough to drop voltage super low and clip (we had clipping / 11.5v drops in the smaller box). We were getting some very high excursion levels; not to the point of maxing out the suspension but quite a bit beyond what our older platforms are capable of. The video doesn't show this the best so stay tuned for more videos. The goal with the new frame and suspension platform was to create drivers that you don't have to worry about hitting suspension limits -- and that is what we achieved. Even in a big box with a ton of power mechanical stresses are almost non-existent. Jovanni drivers this car daily and is not easy on it so I consider it an excellent durability test !"

It's not there quite yet -- of course we have the driver in 3 cubes on a 3500D @ 0.5 ohm so it's getting way up there in throw.

ETA on comps being back in stock?

I believe they made it out of our factory before CNY so less than 30 days if all goes well.
  25. We've had some e-mail system glitches at the shop. I've been discussing it on our Facebook page the last few days -- the long of the short is that if you sent a message before February 1st and didn't get a response there is a HIGH likelihood that your message was lost; it is not being ignored but it simply isn't here. Our e-mail volume was too much for consumer e-mail programs and they freaked out a bit... various database problems. In any event our new Zendesk support ticket system for our e-mails is working very smoothly; we fired it up yesterday. If you have an e-mail in that is older than February 1st please re-send it to one of these @sundownaudio.com addresses; brandon, contact, sundownz, or if it is a dealer inquiry dealer. Each one is @sundownaudio.com -- since the new system is active that will deposit the message in the new system. Due to the e-mail system glitches we lost alot of messages prior to February. Going into the future the new system should more than handle this as it's used by many MUCH larger companies for their support needs. This applies to the returns e-mail which is hooked up to the RMA form on our web-site; so re-submit that if you did so before February 1st without a response. We will be adding debbie to the system; so follow the same guideline about messages older than February 1st for her -- but wait until after lunch time today (EST). As we will be bringing it online on her system. Messages from Feb 1st until now will be getting put into the system for ticket style responses; we will likely have that imported soon.
