    Welcome to the IHoP v.2

Try spotify or some other service. I am not a big fan of Geddy Lee's voice, but as a group they may be the most technical and talented rock musicians ever assembled. This is 70s hard rock, so ignore some of the cheesy interludes common in the era, and check out the real music. I like Caress of Steel. By far it is their worst received album ever, but 2 of my favorite Rush songs (the epics listed above) are on it. It was released in 1975 and only reached gold (500,000 sales) in 1993... 18 years to sell 1/2 a million albums. It was such a failure that many thought it was the end of Rush. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caress_of_Steel I like the musicianship and dynamics. They sound amazing through the analog rig.

Grabbed up 2 more Rush records yesterday; Hemispheres and 2112. That means I have all their epics on vinyl. I'm generally not a huge fan of Rush, but I do love their ability to play. Their epics afford them a ton of time to show off their abilities. My favorites are "The Necromancer" and "The Fountain of Lamneth" with kick ass drum interludes and guitar interludes. It's amazing how pucking good Alex Lifeson was so early in his career. Anyways, after Hemispheres Rush started with the more radio friendly short songs they are so well known for, of which there are very few records they have worth buying IMO. There are a few great songs, but not like the epics. Epics (for those interested): "The Necromancer"- Caress of Steel- 12:34 "Fountain of Lamneth"- Caress of Steel- 19:58 "2112"- 2112- 20:34 "Cygnus X- Book II: Hemispheres"- Hemispheres- 18:08 "La Villa Strangiato (An Exercise in Self-Indulgence)"- Hemispheres- 9:35 The center 3 comprise the entire side of their perspective album.

Took my son to a new shop that opened up in town recently called Badaxe Boutique. It is a high end guitar shop. the finishes on some of these guitars are stunning. They even have soundproof booths where you can go and jam with any guitar on multiple amps. They had some really awesome ivory leather wrapped 5150 half stacks. Such a sexy looking combo. I'm not normally a fan of white, but it stands out and looks fuckin cool... I looked online for pics, but they don't do them justice. Made me wish I could play. I guess Eddie somehow carried the amp name with him when he ditched Peavy. Apparently Fender is making them for him under an EVH moniker.

I was being a facetious. I have more tubes than I do SS in my home and vehicles, and last year vinyl sales outpaced CD sales for the first time since the 80s. My point is that the purist will always return to the early medium. Could you see Ansel Adams with a DSLR? A purist might enjoy the challenge of film, where you find it a waste of time. It is kind of like me in my business. I almost never use air tools. I am a hand tool guy. People always say how much quicker they are then me because of my "medium". But they are sorely mistaken. Very few people can keep pace with me. I look at the task at hand, quickly analyze what I will need to use and do to perform my job, and I do it far more efficiently than most guys who are all elbows and arseho trying to be fast. The purist may look at the challenge and take a risk based on their analysis of the situation and shoot that shot that you may miss as you view it and decide on it on your LCD screen. Don't get me wrong, I am with you in that digital is my choice over film too, but I am not a skilled photographer by any means. My point is, I can see the romance in film over digital... it reminds me of the romance of vinyl. Digital music is so hands off, while vinyl requires a more personal attention, from cleaning albums and needles, to replacing needles, dropping needles, resetting tone arms, and everything else that goes into it... I can dig the passion of film.

Tubes and vinyl are dead, too.

It really has to do with quality of components more than anything else. Here are the guts of a relatively inexpensive Elite VSX91 (In the Elite line this was a low powered entry level receiver). IIRC they retailed for ~$900. Here we have a ton of processing, pre-amp, and power amp all in one. Believe me, these are beauties. I have a VSX45 that sits about 3 tiers above this. They have killer Burr-Brown DAC, a super powerful phono stage, and more. Compare the feature set with a $900 car audio amplifier. The car amp does jack shit. When we step up into higher end home amps we see even more high quality components. Just look at the transformers on my tube amp! They are monsterous, you will never see components like this in a car amp. Dynamics, range, depth, image, extension, air... These are things that a car audio buff can't understand the depths of. Sure, car audio can be exceptional, but the constraints of the passenger compartment, power on hand, and noise can only allow one to achieve a certain level of these nuances. Manufacturers realize this and really only put so much effort into them. I have been fortunate to be in the presence of some amazing home systems, and I have heard some serious car systems. I heard some Valve Amplification Company amps powering a set of Tidal Contriva. The set up was very detailed, clinical, and filled the room in ways that are beyond my ability to put into words. You could feel the instruments in the room with you. You knew where the high hat sat in the room relative to the snare. You knew where the piano say, where the acoustic guitarist sat, where the bassist was, and how he liked to move around the room while playing. You could almost feel Norah Jones breathing out her lyrics on your face. You heard, what I like to say was, her lips brushing the pop filter. They certainly showed off every weakness in the material we listened to. But the way they did it was indescribably beautiful. There was a depth, an emotion, an intimacy that was conveyed that I have never even heard in a live show. While I like to show it off and talk about how good my system sounds, it had nothing on the Tidal/VAC system I heard. Yet I have never heard a car system as good as my wanna be audiophile system. Not even close.

White vinyl. Only 500 made. My favorite Slayer album ever. The white vinyl is crazy looking in person. I've never seen one up close before. My record dude also managed to score me the new Metallica Kill 'em All and Ride the Lightning box sets. They will be here ~ Apr 15th.

My grandfather had a Ruger Blackhawk in .22mag. I fucking loved that pistol. Small bore pistols are a ton of fun to shoot. I highly suggest you give it a whirl. You might like it more than you think! Lots of fun to pop crows, rabbits, and squirrels with. I'm jelly... I want one now.

I'm a lot like you in the study hard mentality. I always research the shit out of everything I do. I want to do it right the first time. I can't tell you how much I have researched crown moulding, and how many people I have interviewed. I am ready, and may include a brilliant idea a guy I know told me about how he does it... if it works as well as he says, anyways I also refuse to fail.

I'm the same. I buy a decent phone and use it for a few years. FWIW I have had a shit ton of luck with HTC phones. I had an M8 for 2 years, and would still have it if I didn't switch carriers. I have an M9 now. They are HTC... I never have problems. Their software is so nicely integrated with Android that you simply don't have conflict crashes. My wife has a V10. It's cool. It does most everything better than my phone. Big beautiful screen, killer camera, super fast. But IMO the SQ of my phone is so much nicer. It's also just as fast, or damn close to it. She has had a few lock ups, I have not. For me, the V10 is just too big. She likes it because it is easier for her to see. She is effectively electronically retarded. She can't copy and fucking paste for christ sakes, but she actually uses her phone. This is the first phone she has ever had that she really uses a lot of the features on. For that, I would buy it over and over again for her. Like Matt, she seems to love her phone, so I give good props to both the HTC M9 and LG V10.

Actually, my procrastination was the height of lazy. I figured out how to be more efficient at stripping the popcorn, and got really pretty good with the mud. I'm looking forward to having a break. I'm fucking exhausted.
