    Welcome to the IHoP v.2

So beautimus. How big are the tubes? The 6550s are pretty fucking big. My hand is a shade bigger than average. By average, I am 6'1". I have some KT88 NOS Tung Sols on the way for the power tubes. Yeah, I know... my jogging pants and shirt are on the bed. OK, we care about lit tubes, not bed shots. Please keep in mind I am running this temporarily. I have it on right now with no music trying to burn in the NOS Mullard tubes I put in the pre-amp side of it. The front 4 small tubes have been changed since all these pics. I just set my bias with the tubes in it, and gave it it's first spin with them in it. And the analog rig as it sits now... Sounds beautiful The stage is so expansive and the image has so much air. The tubes in it have a little shimmer, but the Mullards should tame it. Midrange is ridiculous, and upper end extension is superb. The JJs are known to be a little bright, so I expected the extension and shimmer. The Tung Sol 6550s are also a tad on the bright side, and I expect them to really be a kick ass compliment to the slightly dark nature of the Mullards. I am going to beat it up for several days and will offer more insight.

Grab some Sennhiesers for $30-40. They make solid buds for the $. Speaking of cheap audio...

    Welcome to the IHoP v.2

I really like the Digms, but they carry a hefty price tag. With what I have dumped into the headphone set-up and now the analog rig, I will have to chill out for a few months. I have a chunk in the Jolida right now and am looking for several desirable NOS tubes to play with the sound. I am focusing on the small signal tubes right now, but the power tubes will likely be swapped out from the 6550s to some NOS Tung Sol KT88s

    Welcome to the IHoP v.2

It'll look cool when I get or build new mains for my music listening, but for now I am having to use a switch to cycle from the tubes to the SS in my theater rig. It simply will not handle that huge cable. When I get or build the new mains, I will use the donkey dick 8Ga. I'm leaning towards buying some mains, but I would rather not spend the money for the units I want... I want the Paradigm Prestige 95F, but being realistic I will likely grab the 85F if I opt to buy rather than build. I love them in Midnight Cherry... The 95s are flat to 37Hz, where the 85s are flat (+/-2dB) to 40Hz. Realistically in room my F3 should be ~32-35Hz with the 85s, but fuck me running, those 95s dig deep.

    Welcome to the IHoP v.2

NOS Mullards came in today, and the amp will be done tomorrow. I'm stoked! Not sure if anyone has used the Knukonceptz Karma SS cable yet, but it is retarded. I ordered the 8ga speaker cable, 25 feet. It weighed a damn ton. I pulled it out and was stunned at the cable. It is 2 leads of 8ga with heavy insulation, wrapped as a twisted pair, with a heavy insulation around the twisted 8Ga. All told it is easily bigger than my 1/0 in the car. It is just too fuckin big for my switch. I ordered 12Ga today. I'll post some images tomorrow when I get the amp in.

    Welcome to the IHoP v.2

Oh yeah, caps will be in Monday, so the amp will be done on Tuesday. I also managed to grab several Mullard true 1950s British military CS 12AT7/ECC81 tubes relatively cheap. Matched, balanced triode, low noise tubes for under $50 apiece... These are pretty rare tubes, and are highly desirable. They are nice and warm without being dark, and have decent headroom, so I should have no problem with them in my amp, and they are military, which means they are durable. But a bummer is, I snagged a Pro-Ject phono box for a temporary phono stage until I can decide on a permanent tube solution... I know, I want a tube phono stage, but I grabbed a SS for the time being until I can decide. I don't mind a temporary $80 phono stage with kick ass reviews from a really good company so I can enjoy my Jolida until I can make a beter educated decision. I almost bought a Pro-Ject Carbon Debut TT before deciding on the AT, so I am good with it for the time being. Anyways, the phono stage won't be here until Friday, so I am stuck with this beautiful amp while listening to my analog through my Elite . First world problems and all...

    Welcome to the IHoP v.2

Awesome! They will have a blast, I am sure. Plus, family time is invaluable. As far as the walnut, I like black walnut a lot. I even have a buddy with a lot of it in his shop, so I could score enough relatively cheap if not free. He has had it for years. But there are a few reasons I want to stay clear of it and go with mahogany. First, it is too dark for my room, and for the dark equipment. I have light oak floors, and light oak blinds, mahogany end tables and a bookshelf in my room... and my speakers are curly mahogany. Second is that it is hard to work with because it is so hard/dense. It is a tough wood to cut, it is brutal on saw blades and router bits, and I will have to crank out the dado blade for the inlay I am envisioning. Also, the figure doesn't pop when you use a clear coat on it. Mahogany goes with my speakers. However, I do have black walnut on my mains. The front baffle has a 3/8" edge of solid black walnut with a routed figure. Mahogany, while classified as a hard wood, is fairly soft, so it is really easy to work with for a dense wood. The figure really pops with a clear coat as well.

    Welcome to the IHoP v.2

Thanks guys! Sadly my caps have to be ordered, so I am without the new amp for at least a week. I did order some new speaker wires and interconnects for it, so hopefully I'll have all the new goodies here when it arrives. Believe it or not, I went with Knukonceptz Karma SS speaker cable (8Ga) and the matching banana connectors they offer in cool pearlescent white and black terminations. I spent a little more on RCAs, and I don't want to hear about it so I'll just say they are pretty. I didn't buy them because they affect sound... I'm not gullible. I'm going to work on plans for a good rack for my analog set up. I might build a new stand for my new TV to match. Not sure if I told you guys, but my TV took a shit. I wound up grabbing a 65" Sammy SUHDTV for a fair enough deal. 4K is really kick ass. Even the upconverting of 1080i is exceptionally impressive. Anyways, I am thinking mahogany with some curly maple inlays. Not stained mahogany, just clear over the grain. IMO mahogany is so beautiful that staining it should be a sin. I have some 4/4 mahogany boards and I have several BF of 2/4 curly maple laying around the workshop. A local lumber yard also has 3/4" mahogany ply for large panels, and they always have a shit ton of 4/4 mahogany there to fill in whatever I may need. Mahogany Curly Maple You guys think that will be a nice contrast?

Any advice on a preamp? The Behringer DACs you suggested were a major score (I actually currently have 3 in use and one in storage, just in case), and I am hoping for a similar score on the phono stage.

    Welcome to the IHoP v.2

Hey all, Merry Sexmas! What did everyone get that was awesome? I received some cool shit from myself. I started hard on analog about a month and a half ago, and I have been busy researching vinyl rigs. Now that I have most of my gear in place, I will share and ask for some advice. Technics 1200 turntables are a really good platform to build off of, but they are older and have some shortcomings. Fortunately, Audio Technica has a mid level (for them) table that is a scary knock off of the T1200. Granted, it did need a little mod work (namely removing the internal preamp, swapping the mat from foam to cork, and swapping out the stylus. All these mods (except the cartidge/stylus) are so cheap they can almost be considered free. So I grabbed one... All mods are done at this point. I also have a Shure 97 with an avic stylus on it's way. Thus far I have been running it on my Elite with amazing results. Thank God it has a kick ass phono stage built into it! I also just received my first full on power tube amp today. I got an older Jolida SJ 502-A amp for a hell of a deal. I have been finding them used for ~$1000-1200 and I managed to snag one up for $650 shipped. It's a heavy fucker at ~50 pounds! The amp is absolutely pristine, so I was really fucking stoked when it arrived! I expected it to be a bit rough, but with only 600 hours on it, it is barely broken in. I took it to a local tube guru who is going to mod the unit for me. He will replace caps, resistors, and remove the balance pot as well as put in a couple new pre tubes. For those of you that remember my old AV with the glowing tubes, that was a pic of a SJ502A all lit up. Now I am in the process of working on a phono stage to go with this amp. Obviously, the goal is to stick with an all analog set up. Jolida has a nice tube phono stage, but it is costly. Yaqin ms12b is a strong competitor, as is the Budgie. I thought the Belaris were decent, but I am reading a lot of bad shit about them. Even the Yaqin seems to have some negatives about it, but I see a ton of positives on audiophile sites I have been on, touting it as worth 3X it's price, comparing it to some Manley units. Does anyone here have any input on tube phono stages that may help in my decision? I really want to keep it under $350, but I may be OK strtching it to $500

I scored too. Local Wally World had UMC .40 box of 250 for $93. I bought the 2 boxes they had on the shelf. Sure, not the best ammo, but it shoots and it will work for practice.

Throttle problems will usually set a hard light really fast. They tend to shut down throttle control completely, allowing the vehicle to drift to a stop. Turning the truck off then restarting will reset it. If it sees the same failure in successive trips it might lock out the TB, depending on the year/system.

Sweet. Curious what year the axe is and what half stack. Love the color. It's a brand new guitar, and the amp is a 5150, circa 1998. One hell of a nice guitar!!! How's the action? I have only played a handful of BC Rich bass guitars and found the neck was a little wide for my hands. J I don't play, so I really can't comment. This is his first electric, he has played acoustic until now. He says it is a lot easier to play than the acoustics he plays. By his description I would say the neck is considerably more narrow than he is used to.

Nice! I went to Gander Mountain tonight (there is one right next to the Guitar Center where I snagged Nick's guitar) and rubbed one out to the Kimbers. I actually spent some time with a couple Springfields after you and Dem talked so highly of them. I have honestly never held one before. It's a nicely made gun. But those Kimbers though... I think I am grabbing the Pro Carry II. You can't go wrong with a Kimber, if you watch you might be able to pick that Kimber up for around $699.95 Bud's Guns has them for $699. I have a local FFL that does transfers for $15.
