  1. My vehicle has whats called a supplemental brake assist motor, it is a extra vacuum pump to supply extra vacuum in low vacuum conditions such as accel or if the booster failed. It runs a self test every time you start the vehicle for 1 second, and if the IPC (instrument panel) does not see that the test completes 5 times in a row it turns on the "Service Brake Booster" message. This is the message I am getting as well as "Battery not charging" They are related. I believe on my factory alternator plug that the blue one is for the supplemental brake assist. So this clearly needs to be ran as a jumper to.............where?? Matt? Anyone?

  2. The brake booster fault message is not charging system related, make sure you didn't accidentally disconnect something when installing the unit.

As for the message center, when the correct wire is powered the message center will see proper voltage and know that the vehicle is charging.

Nothing was accidentally disconnected and I believe your statement about the message center seeing the proper voltage but we connected the exact jumper that Matt said to and still have the message in the message center.

  3. So we installed my 350 SMD with external regulator on my Sierra. When not using the factory harness, I have a message on my instrument cluster saying "battery not charging". Ok understandable, the CPU is not seeing the signal, so we called and emailed Matt. He told us about the jumper to run (the L terminal I believe) but that didn't clear the message. ON TOP of this, the build was done, so I went to drive it home from my buddys shop and had a low brake pedal. Pulling out to the first stop sign, I now have a "service brake booster" light on my instrument cluster. I did some research on it when I got home and I think the 2 messages are tied together versus me having bad luck----a leaking booster. Sorry so long, just wanna know if anyone else had the same problem and how was it fixed.

  4. Well you're gonna have to do some sort of exercise if you want to see a drop of 15 lbs. Cutting out soda ( i don't know how much you were drinking) will definitely help but doing that alone will make you slightly more lean (1-5 lbs) not really shed fat upwards of 15 lbs. Id say start with a good diet. I could give you a good example but don't have time right now. Also make sure you hit the gym 3 times a week and weight train. Muscle burns twice as much calories as fat so cardio should be 2nd on your list behind weights. I dont care how much you work, you can find 4 hrs out of the week to go to the gym. You honestly dont even need cardio a good diet and weight training will shed fat like crazy. Good luck.

Really? Muscle burns twice as much as calories as fat? i did not know that. I always thought someone should do cardio over weight lifting to lose weight.

  5. Knowing the exact unit they're using and knowing this car like the back of my hand you have these options.... and they're not gonna be what you want to hear. That alternator is NOT designed for idle output in a camry. They idle too low. If I was at work, I would show you what alldata says for what our idle speed is in our cars. It's just not going to happen with that unit. You're wasting your time. Remember when I said our car idles at 2000 Alternator RPM?

Here is a power curve of our 320HP that is the same alternator you got for your vehicle.

    320-hp-curve.png

Notice what it does at 2000? it does 39 amps.. what happens when you increase it 800 rpms? 8000*3 = you get over 100 amps... this car is not capable of hitting the sweet spot you need it to hit.

    So your options are:

    Deal with it.

Have them swap you out for a denso 180 amp unit. That unit WILL charge at idle and you WILL be happy with it.

I've ran the 320 in my car, i hated it. I ran the 180HP in my car and I loved it. I now run the XP and well, i love it like a fat kid loves cake.

You want idle from mechman? get the 180 amp denso.

Sorry to be blunt, but I want you to realize that you're wasting your time. you can't make more idle performance out of an alternator by replacing wires. Our car is a 3 alternator rpm to 1 engine rpm. want to know what the alternator does? look at that power curve and do (engine rpm) * 3 = alternator RPM.

Hey Kyle, not saying this is the case, bc obviously its not, but if he had a bigger battery bank, would this still be an issue?? because of the power curve? or would a big a$$ battery bank help that?

The OP's vehicle idles below the rpm level needed to trigger the alternator to turn on. At idle, the alternator is off, the entire electrical system relies on battery voltage(float level).

From the chart Kyle posted, their 320HP would produce around 93amps at idle (whether this be near the stock alts rating or below, I don't know), but 93a for stock electrical + a big stereo = no bueno.

So as you can see in either case, your mainly going to be relying on your batteries when the vehicle is parked or idling.

If the OP had thirty large agm batteries in the back of his car, he would have plenty of battery reserve, and the alternator's nearly non-existent contribution at idle wouldn't really matter in the scheme of things. (assuming your driving around like normal)

But having thirty agm batteries isn't going to change the alternator's turn on speed or power curve.

    gotcha.

  7. how about for someone that works nightshift? Its hard to have a pattern of not eating late, when I sleep all afternoon (about lunch till 9) and then get up and go to work. I have gotten into the habit of stoppin at a fast food joint on the way to work to feed my hunger and wake me up! I, like the OP, am about 6'2, but i'm 245, needing to get to 205. I've stopped drinking soda (for about a week now) and am drinking alot of water and gatorade. Any tips on late night eating habits?

Got a brown paper sack? (no homo)

Good. Pack a damn lunch. Take in good healthy foods, a protein shake, or something there of.

The fast food and limited meals for the hours you are up is a HUGE hinderence.

lol. yeah. i'll try that. its jus so damn easy to stop at a drive thru, haha. So is white bread bad???

    J

WHOLE Grain is one of the best breads for you. Wheat is a medium substitute or potato bread.

Just ensure its fresh and not being eaten in mass quanities and you'll be ok.

so a whole grain sandwich and protein shake is a good lunch to take? thanks for the advice.....

  10. well my 390 xp (after the long wait) is going to be shipped back to dc. damn thing is charging 19 volts. damn my luck.

That sucks. Ever thought about just getting your money back and going with Mechman?

    yeah, its on my mind...

  11. i have never used SDS ... but my homeboy Steve mead swears by it.

i like my second skin, it works great, its easy to apply and it has not fallen or pealed,

and i have also gained DB's from just doing my trunk lid alone, with damp pro,

i also used damp pro in my doors, along with luxury liner pro, that helped me gain more mid bass, and also stop road noise,

the guys at second skin are easy to deal with now that they are under new ownership, and i have a local friend that has had amazing results with stopping his resonant sound from his Honda's loud muffler

Second Skin DAMP PRO fo sho. lol. I love mine! :sleepwerd4:
