To answer what happened, the same stupid shit that always goes on there ... SSA is a real car audio forum ... CA.com was at one point, now it's just OT.com mixed w/ a lot of shitty advice and the odd gem, usually from someone who is also a regular here ...
  3. That's what I have ... Picked it up from Costco for cheap ...Just make sure you also back your important data up to a second source (i.e. DVDs) because, like any other hard drive, it can fail. i use flash drives myself. Flash drives get pretty expensive for large backup tasks ... At best, you're looking at $5/GB ... My WD drive costed $0.44/GB ($110 for 250 GB 2.5" HDD) ... and if you get a 3.5" based HDD, you can get them down under $0.20/GB ...Optical discs are still the cheapest means of backup at about $0.05/GB when you buy in bulk ... Not nearly as convenient, though ...
  4. After talking to some of my friends and clients who are in real estate, I got mixed reviews on how well MLS works on Vista. Some said it works fine (mostly the more tech savvy), some said it works fine but they hate Vista, some said it works sometimes, and some said it doesn't work at all (mostly the less tech savvy). Could be different versions or different configurations, I don't know. I guess if you're going to get Vista, get it from somewhere that has a decent return policy (Costco, Staples, Best Buy, etc.) so if it doesn't work, you can return it and get a custom-built HP or Dell or something (though I'm sure a custom unit will be more than $650) ...

  6. The only thing from Lenovo I would recommend would be their Thinkpad line, which is excellent but well out of your price range ... The remainder of their line-up is mediocre at best ...I would advise against downgrading to XP from a Vista machine. Finding drivers is a major pain in the ass in most cases. I would either purchase a laptop w/ XP pre-loaded or get a Vista unit and immediately upgrade it to 4 GB of RAM (very cheap these days ... less than $80) ... Follow the Vista tweak guide on Blackviper.com and you'll be happy w/ it ... For recommendations, I would probably pick up a Compaq if you don't need the features. They're HP's low-end line and we haven't seen too many issues w/ them (they use the same base parts as the HP products, but w/ slower CPUs, less RAM, less features, etc.) ... The low-end Dells wouldn't be too bad of a choice as Dell has improved their customer service significantly over the past few years. Every time HP sends us refurbished units, we literally have a 50+% return rate within the first 2 weeks ... I have zero confidence in their refurbished products ...

Ugh ... last night was a blur ... I'm so hungover ... My head and neck hurts and my knuckles are bleeding and I don't know why ... I don't appear to have any other cuts or contusions, though ... The last thing I accurately remember was my friend egging me on to do a round of shots w/ him ... We ended up doing 4 rounds of 4 shots (16 shots total for each of us) .... I don't remember much after that ...
  8. All LCDs are going to have at least some backlight bleed just from the very nature of how they operate. I recommend purchasing one at one of the big-box stores (Staples, Costco, Best Buy, Circuit City, etc.) as their return policies are generally superior to those of the online stores (no shipping costs, no restocking fees, etc.), so you can take it back w/o any hassle if it isn't acceptable ...
  9. Low-end Acer is a bad choice ... and a refurbished HP is even worse ...

Value of Nortel Network shares: March 24, 2000 - $1412.50 February 4, 2008 - $12.69 Ouch ... I wonder if they can blame Bush for this one ?
  11. It shouldn't reset anything other than perhaps the IP address, DNS, etc. provided by your ISP. If it does, there's obviously something wrong there, but you can save your settings as a file on your computer and then just upload the file to the router if/when it happens again.
  12. Well, pretty much everything has been covered ... except we still don't know what router you actually have ...

    Welcome to the IHoP

I've come to the conclusion that everyone under the age of 25 has absolutely no clue how to manage their money ... People are so freaking dependent on their cell phones these days, it's insane. I was hanging out at my friend's place yesterday (watching the playoffs) and he was freaking out over his cell phone bill ... He owes over $1500 on his cell phone bill and the disturbing part is that's accumulated over a period of only 3 months ... I know very few people who have cell bills under $100/month these days and no one w/ bills under $50/month ... Then people ask me why I don't have a cell phone ... and why I don't buy a new car ... and why I don't spend money on this and that and this and that ... I find it quite humourous that most of my friends who make $30/hour are in debt w/ nothing to show for it yet I make $17/hour, have a mortgage and pay rent, and yet I have enough money to live comfortably and my friends are always panicking to meet end's meet ... I only have 1 friend who has taken my advice and he was making ~$20/hour and had about $7,000 in debt (and counting)... He cut off his cell phone (-$150/month), cut cablevision (-$40/month), started carpooling to work instead of driving his truck 80 km/day @ 15 MPG (-$200/month), limited eating out to once a week (-$250/month), stopped spending money on lottery tickets (especially at the bar) (-$50/month), had his drinks BEFORE he got to the bar (-$120/month) ... Basically, just by making a few concessions, we were able to save him almost $850/month and he was out of debt in about a year ...

ObjectDock Plus Me too Jmac should be JPC :/ I just want a computer that "just works" as advertised Those new Mac Pros look awfully enticing ... So does a watercooled Spider computer w/ 4 x ATI HD 3870 X2s ... Although I'm sure my GF wouldn't care too much about doing 20,000+ in 3DMark06

Alternative solutions:Update your firmware or use a 3rd party firmware (if available) that is designed for bittorrent usage Reduce the number of connections you're using Reduce the number of half-open connections your router will allow

Basic fact. You suck at computers. tree fiddy ? Yes, that's the reason ... or ... maybe ... just maybe ... Apple sold me a complete piece of shit they won't replace ...In the 5 months of ownership, it has been repaired 3 times (2-3 weeks each time) and, collectively, the following parts have been replaced: Motherboard = Twice Graphics Card = Thrice Hard Drive = Once Wireless Card = Once Heatsink + Fan = Twice and the thing STILL STILL STILL STILL shows artifacts, freezes, and randomly shuts off while playing games and after playing video for over 2 hours ... Of ALL the other computers I've owned over the last 10 years, I've only ever had one component failure, which is a hard drive about 3 years ago. Also humourous is the fact that the only computer I've owned that has given me a BSOD is my iMac (which didn't even have Windows on it at the time) ... Overall, I'm very unhappy w/ my iMac and I really wish Apple would make it better, but instead they delete my posts and ban me from their freaking forums for using terms like BSOD, which they said was "distasteful" ... Freaking nazis ... Sorry about the rant ... I just want Apple to take this piece of crap and give me something that "just works" ...

Or if you have a POS $2600 aluminum paperweight that Apple calls an iMac like me, then it'll just come up w/ a white screen and crash every fvcking day running Leopard ... P.S. My iMac is back to Tiger ... Still runs like sh*t, but at least it only crashes while playing games and watching long DVDs rather than when doing ANYTHING ... P.P.S Anyone want to buy an iMac ?
