    12" Flatlyne

I've read amazing things about the flatlyne but they seemed a little expensive. I realize there is a sale going on this month. I'm looking for an upgrade from my 10" type r in a sealed box. I couldn't find any specific enclosure recommendations for the flatlynes. I heard that they do really well as infinite baffle but i'm looking for something in a ported box. I figure the extra 2" of cone space, 250 more watts rms and professional built ported enclosure would be a nice upgrade.

    dcon vs icon

I want to go with one of the new icons but I doubt my corolla could handle that much power. I think the stock alternator is 70 amps. I don't want to spend the money on a new alternator for a 14 year old car. Can anyone give me a rough estimate of how much louder a 12" icon would be compared to a 12" dcon both at rms?

    dcon vs icon

If im looking for sound quality should I stick with a sealed box? Also, will the dcons be updated anytime soon? I feel like the dustcap on the dcons look out dated. I think the icons look nice.
  4. I was wondering what people thought about subs facing upward in a sedan trunk. I'm planning on getting a 12" icon but I wouldn't mind having the 15". Problem is that I don't think the trunk in my 97 corolla would be tall enough having the sub standing up. It would be going in a sealed box. I feel like there would be more trunk rattle if I laid the sub down. I see videos where the sub is literally firing into the trunk from an inch away. Would lying the sub make it harder to hear in the front of the car? It seems like there would be a greater chance for cancellation or the sound waves would just get bunched up between the trunk and cone. Separate question but i've always been curious. Does it matter if I swap the wires running from the amp into the box terminals?

    upward-firing subs in sedan trunk

Thanks that's pretty interesting. So according to these pages the best place from my current sub would be rear facing close to the trunk lid?

    bass blockers

Today I put in some pioneer a series 6.5" in the back of my car. Tomorrow i'm planning on ordering the 4" models for the front. I'm running them of the 18w head unit. I have a sub already and was wondering if it would be worth it to buy something like 150hz bass blockers for the front speakers. I didn't know much about car audio when I went and bought my head unit and it doesn't have a high pass filter.

    looking for sub suggestions

Anyone have input on the sq of ascendant audio subwoofers? Specifically the 12" chaos. And how about the incriminator audio flatlyne's? The 12" is 750w rms and $60 more but they were built for sq weren't they? Are the IA subs built in the U.S. as well?
  8. I don't think I will be buying a new sub anytime in the relatively near future but I do want to upgrade eventually. I currently have a 10" type r and I love it but I wouldn't mind something a little louder. I care more about quality than loudness. The problem with my type r is that it can be hard hearing really low notes. I drive a 97 corolla at the moment. I was looking at the fi q but i'm not sure if my electrical system would be able to handle the 1000w rms. Maybe with a capacitor? I don't want anything that will take up all the space in the trunk so i'd like to stick with 1 sub. A 12" sub to go in sealed box is what I should be looking for right? I know a lot of you on here have tons of experience with many different subwoofers. Please give me some recommendations/suggestions!

  10. I'm planning on buying an 12' ssa icon in the future. I will need an amp to run and am not sure what to get. I want to stay on the cheap side. Here a few amps, which would be the best? MB quart onx1.1000d - http://www.mbquart.com/onyx_amps.html RE DTS 1500.1 - http://usamps.com/dts_amps.html RE VLX1DE - http://usamps.com/vlx_amps.html kicker dx1000.1 - http://kicker.com/dx_amplifiers
  11. I wouldn't mind buying refurbished if it works.
  12. I want to make sure my amp is set correct so I am going to try and pick up a digital multimeter soon. I have never used before though. Do I need an expensive one or any work fine. (http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_03482141000P?prdNo=2&blockNo=2&blockType=G2). Using the equation in the topic my voltage should be about 22.3v. What would I set the dmm in the picture too?
  13. Well I mean I don't want to be like $400 or $500 on an amp. There are a lot of cheap amps from companies like lanzar, crunch, power acoustik, absolute, spl, autotek. I hear about people advising against hifonics amps. Yes I want to save money but I don't want to have to buy a better amp for the same sub later on down the road. The point of the post was mainly to get opinions on amplifiers from RE & mb quart.

    dmm

    Ok thanks much,

    dmm

Its actually for my car. According to my guide the voltage for the amp output is the squareroot of wattage x resistance. In my case this is a 500w amp @ 2ohms. The square root of 1000 comes out to be ~22v. And when you say put it on ac volts does it matter if its on the 200 or 600?

How do the dcons compare to the icons sq wise? Having two of the dcons would take up a lot more space but the amp would be cheaper and it would be about 400 watts less for the electrical system. What about dc subs? Are those mainly for spl? I'm asking because the level 2 10's have a suggested sealed box size of .75 cu ft which wouldn't be that much bigger than the icon box.

How much will i need to spend on an amp. Would I be ok using something like an mb quart amp?

I'd like to keep it under $300 for the sub(s). After thinking about it I might consider two lower power 12"s if the quality is just as good and a sealed enclosure wouldn't be too big. I was also considering a 12" polk sr but haven't heard much about them. I'd also like to support the lesser known companies that build their subs in america. JL's are supposed to be nice but they are incredible expensive. Also, do they still make ID subs?

Well to be completely honest I haven't heard that many subs up close in person. I got a sealed box because some people said their type r's sounded sloppy in ported enclosures compared to the sealed. I'm looking for tight punchy bass. Sealed enclosures are usually smaller and I wouldn't have to worry about a poorly designed box.
