  1. Always ballin Hugo. So am I gonna see you at shows this year?

Ha ha, i dont know about that. I'm hopung in making it out to a few shows. Hope to see you at some of them. :)

    beastly

    It is indeed. :o

Nice sub, will you be making a build log?

Thanks. It'll be more of an experiment log, where i try to convey how great its sounds by onky using words. :P

Got mine a week ago as well, same story all the way down to the hole in the box biggrin.png

Lol, at least FexEx is being consistant. biggrin.png What is your box going to spec out at? I'm shooting for 3.5 to 4cuft with a 33Hz tune. I'll be building a test box with extenal ports just to goof around till I like what I hear then I'll commit to a nice box. smile.png

Right about the same as you. Hope to be closer to 4 ft^3 and anywhere from 30-35 should be just fine.

    Cool! Shall be interesting. :)

  3. nice woofer, Ive been trying to convince a friend to buy one of these, mainly just so I can hear it. :P

side note: That coil looks very dark.

Thanks, no need to have ur buddy buy one. You can come over and have a lisen once i get mine going. :D I dont mind the coil being a little dark, actually its how I prefer my women as well. :)

  4. So you have 1 Fi team 15, and 4 DSS 15's.  sounds like a couple of very interesting projects coming up.

Well, just like your sig, I've got more crap than I'd like to admit to. :P

Nicee!! You're buying all the badass subs! Finish it off with some SSA subs! ;)

So let me ask, did you even do the oil change?? Lol

Lol, I did get it done, a few hours after I had planned on finishing. :D Dang distractions.

    Scorrrrrrrrre

Yes sir, its a happy Christmas after all. :)

Nice, might be why Nick has been working the 20 hr shifts.

Dang, 20hr shifts!? Player be hustling.

lil good luck  on trying to keep a tally on all the audio shit hugo has on hand at any point in time....... he is a true audiophile this is just the stuff he received this week!!

his wife is so nice and so very  understanding  its wild!!!

im guessing you bought this more or less just to get a hands on look of the new line?

Thanks, the wife appreciates the comments, even though in reality she sometimes disagrees with my shenanigans. Dont tell her I said that. :P

I picked this sub up because i sold the BTLs to get the Ethos, so the creampuff felt left out. Got to give the little Olds some love. Plus who wouldnt want to try out this beast. :D

  5. Get the build log started already!

Yes sir, after a cup of joe and some donuts. :P

Some sharp subs! Good luck on the new build, always top notch work and attention to detail on your builds Hugo!

Thanks, gonna need all the luck i can get with this one. Its gonna be a mutha getting the box in. :D

  6.

SWEEETTTT!!! glad to see all my rowdy friends are picking them up biggrin.png

are these for the build we talked about at heatwave?

    also are these D1 or

    D2

Ha ha, I dont know about that rowdy part. biggrin.png

My dream build from heatwave turned out to be just that, a big dream. sad.png These bad boys are making their way into another reincarnation of the suburban. New mids, processor, and front stage amps. smile.png See you all in the lanes.

    Opps, forgot, D2. smile.png

Looks like FedEx got a little rowdy with that box.

    Yup. :/

Mine showed up like that too. Luckily it was properly packeged and the driver was in great condition. Can't help what the shipping company does during transit.

Glad eveything checked out good with yours. Its always scary when shipping these heavyweights.

Mine showed up like that too. Luckily it was properly packeged and the driver was in great condition. Can't help what the shipping company does during transit.

I'm gonna have to get them to double box them then if this is an issue. In the future I'm hoping to use injection molded foam supports in the packaging.

With other subs the top and bottom boards were tied together with 2x2s at all four corners. This would lock the sub inbetwwen the two boards and keep it from tipping over when the box lands on its corner. :)

Just to let you know, 5 of the 8 boxes that were shipped to me they told me were beyond destroyed.

They had to repackage them the best they could.

Someone who works at Fedex seen what was being delivered and requested that they put all the subs on his fedex truck because he's a basshead and knows how many problems people can have with moving stuff like this.

He was explaining this all to me when he got there.

So, he got there, told me the whole story, helped me unload em all then stayed and checked em all before leaving.

He was there a good 40min.

He was also the guy who came back and delivered the last sub that Fedex somehow lost on the way.

Dang it. With you its always some thing special. It just cant be an ordinary experience, always something exceptional to tell. :P Just messing. 8 subs? Damn, shit's gonna be serious. Cant wait to see. :)

    Good looking subs!

Thanks, they really are. Looking forward to getting them going. :)

  7. Damn it I need to order my set of ethos! I can't take seeing everyone get there's lol

Well get to it, bro. Time wait for no man. :D

    gorgeous!!!

    Thanks. :)

Yeah this look great, thinking of a multiple setup myself :)

Another build?!!!! Dang, you're prolly the busiest guy here. :D

  9. Yeah, that was a pretty bad Topic Title. biggrin.png He he. My bad. Any ways, I took advantage of the DSS deal, picking up a few woofers, and man are my arms tired..... Enough with the bad jokes, here are some pics.

I was a little worried about that one box, but everything checked out good.

All lined up and ready for action.

A couple of motor shots. Not my best work, but still and impressive sight. This will be the first time I run four subs in a single setup. Stay tuned for a build log coming to a forum near you.

These subs look great. A+ build quality. All the glue joints look solid with no excess glue. No weak spots were revealed when pushing up from the backside of the surround. These subs pack an impressive stack of spiders extending to the outer most edge of the spider landing. They looked solidly glued, no visual weak points. The neck joint like all other neck joints I've seen in my life was meh. Crap all this blah blah blah, how about some moar fhawking pics?

    Thanks for looking.

  10. I thought that was the whole point of this section, to post up shows and events regarding car audio. USACi and IASCA are not supporting vendors yet i see their shows posted here all the time. Granted, Dave's latest post is a little off the wall for an event, but still with in the spirit of this section. If what dave is doing is considered unacceptable then i say its time for this section to go away.

  11. Well, where do I begin? I'll be up front. Things have not gone the way I imagined them to go. Here is how it all went down.

A little filler to smooth things out. biggrin.png

    DSC06742_zpsd29f5de8.jpg

    Filler for the filler?

    DSC06765_zps42b0707b.jpg

A little primer, inside and out.

    DSC06766_zps2925da00.jpg

    DSC06769_zps466e6410.jpg

By this time I had had my fill of sanding. Little did I know this was just the beginning. I do not own any sort of painting gear besides a couple of chip brushes and some rollers. With that I mind I figured I'd use some high quality exterior paint from the big orange hardware store. The paint being acrylic, I figured I could wet sand it and bam be done. Well.....

First thing first, the baffle goes on.

    DSC06772_zps8ca9c95b.jpg

After a couple of layers of paint this is what I'm starting with. A couple of passes with some sand paper and it'll be like if the can is on a mirror... Right.... tongue.png

    DSC06776_zpsf2748ac4.jpg

It was a disaster. The fine grit sandpaper had such a grip on the paint I had to use a 3"x3" block to minimize the footprint. Then managing the water and keeping it from wicking into the exposed mdf edges was a nightmare. Then this happened. sad.png

    IMG_2062_zpsa8421407.jpg

I said the, "The hell with this sh!t! I'm getting this bish together now!"

Before that though, I embraced my flaws.

    The crossovers in place.

    DSC06786_zps5038dfc9.jpg

Here is the modified brace for proper air flow in and out of the port, because I measured once and now I had to cut twice. :\

    DSC06783_zpsc1ed03d3.jpg

At this point I'd like to mention how awesome socket head sheet metal screws are. They made installing the crossover a dream come true after I totally frustrated myself with #10 pan head philips screws.
