Box build for Death Penalty 12

I'm originally from Cherryvale, ks. I competed in the midwest spl circuit in the summer. I went to World Finals this year in tulsa because i now goto school at OSU in stillwater, OK. I actually took home 3rd place in amaetuer Psychlone class.. I wanted to try something new for next season. My first sub was a Bl and i always liked it, so i switched back. I just got my new 09 Bl in today and withou even being broken in it's already louder than the DP in the center box.

Box build for Death Penalty 12

It's actually not uncomfortable at all. It's perfect height for a center console even tho it might not look like it in the pics.. I can still reach everything fine. Only thing is tho, i had a beach towel on the floor right in front of it, and all of a sudden the sub wasn't as loud anymore wheni was going downt he road so i pulled over real quick and seen it had sucked in half of the beach towel into the port. haha..

    AQFIREBIRD

I loved that new port at the United World Finals.. Hopefully i'll be competing again next year with my truck, but i built a center console box i'm going to try to fine tune and put the new sub in it.. (I'm Miles with the White Dodge btw). But that Firebird is a great ride and sounds amazing..

    T-Line box for a Fi Bl 12

Well this is the first transmission line box i've ever built.. I read the tutorial yesterday on how to build one and didn't think it was that hard, so i built this one this morning in my spare time. Took about 2 hours to cut and assemble the box.. After getting it done i put it in a chevy s-10 blazer, with some kind of off brand amp pushing only about 300-400 (sad but that's all he had. Haha..). And with that little power running to it, everything flexes in his truck, and it's loud from 25hz all the way up to 60hz.. I'm very impressed with t-line boxes, and i find them easier to build than just regular ported box.. Haha.. Specs: Fs of a D1 Fi Bl is 35.2 Box "port" is exactly 8.07 feet long with 78 square inches of constant port The sub is inverted because the port is only 6 inches deep and the Fi has a mounting depth of 6.75". Doesn't hurt anything, just makes the box look sexier. Haha.. Now all he needs is to get an amp that'd do 700~900 at 2 ohms.. Does the Kenwood 9104D seem like good amp to get that kind of power out of? 32 ounce drink just chilllin in the port.. Haha.. Tell me what y'all think....

    T-Line box for a Fi Bl 12

    T-Line box for a Fi Bl 12

FINALLLYY!!!! Got it metered last night.. And clamped at the same time to see what the new RockfordFosgate Prime 500 would really do. Ran through the lanes and did a 137.2 legal on the dash at 40hz i believe. I prob could've done a 138 but did have time to test and tune.. The kid that i built this box for also got the new Prime 500 amp and when we clamped it, it did 501 watts with a 5 ohm impedence rise.. Pics will be up later of the amp.. Question? Suggestions?

    Single Cab Port

Since you included fiberglass in your box description, here's a picture of my enclosure. It's made to go behind the seats of a regular cab Dodge 1500. I can't remember the outside box dimensions, but it can mount up to 11.25" deep. It's around 2.5 cubes after all displacements, has a 6" aero port tuned to 34 hz. And I can still fold up my center console when I need that center seat. If you have any other questions about the box don't be afraid to ask. And btw, it shakes everything in my truck apart and it's very loud. Of course with using a 6" aero, the only way to face it was to the side.

Single Orphan 8" Ported Box build.

Maybe it's just me, but why does the port look like it's about 1/2" wider at the start than when it makes the 90 to go forward?
  12. Well, I bought a DP 12 while SSA was having the Black and Blue sale in december. I've only had it installed and playing for a month and a half though. Well, the other day I noticed that there was a crease all the way around the sub on the inside portion of the surround. I've only had about 1100 rms running to it (it's a 1500 rms amp, but with voltage drop I know it's less). It's not even close to hitting the back of my passenger seat, and I've never put it into overexcursion. I emailed Nick today, so hopefully he'll get back to me either monday or tuesday. I'm a little pissed, because I haven't done anything wrong with this sub, and it's practically brand new, so I don't understand why it did this. And also, the big "scratch" that's in the last picture was there when I first opened the box, but I didn't think about it too much at the time since it wasn't all the way through.... Onto the pictures....

So.... WTF happened to my DP?!

I'm not getting pissed about anything, I'm just stating my point. By the looks of the hole in the surround, it did not start and the "rubbed" place, but if that's what you think that's fine. I 100% agree with KU40. If any of you guys could be around me you would know I am very careful with everything I own, and I wouldn't be stupid enough to put my sub over the limits of it's suspension. It looks to me like it was just a bad surround, and there was nothing I could have done about it. And thanks Nick for responding to this. I can get a little impatient sometimes and can't wait for an answer. Haha. I've never done a recone before, so I hope I can get some help from on here. It kinda sucks since there really isn't anything wrong with the sub, yet I'm going to be ripping everything out of it... But it'll probably be easier to recone the whole thing than try to replace just the surround...

So.... WTF happened to my DP?!

Well, I called it a "scratch" with parenthesis for a reason. It actually just looked like a hard rub mark on the surround. It doesn't go very deep at all, it just looks really nasty. Sending it back would be like getting a sub with a pinhead sized dent in the dustcap. Yes, it's irritating that it's there, but it's not hurting anything, and plays just fine with it, so why wait another month or two to ship it back and get another one, with a slight possibility of the same problem?

So.... WTF happened to my DP?!

I've already stated that it isn't anywhere close to hitting the back of the seat, and it's never been into overexcursion.. And read my responce above for your other statement.

So.... WTF happened to my DP?!

You must not be able to read very good. If I didn't already say it, i'll say it again just for you. I noticed a change in sound 2 days ago. I emailed him today. The scratch was not a big deal to me when I first got the sub, and it still hasn't went through the surround right there so I don't care about that part. The surround just resently split all the way around the sub, and actually split all the way through in that one other spot 2 days ago. So after I noticed a change in sound and discovered that it was toar, I have not played it since. Do you really think I would spend this kind of money on high end/excellent quality equipment and beat the hell out of it after I realize there is a major problem? The scratch that was in the sub when I got it has had no effect on the sub, and is still not toar all the way through, so therefore, I'm not at all concerned about the scratch... Just the actual hole in the surround that is effecting the sub.
  17. Miles

So.... WTF happened to my DP?!

Yes. As you notice in the last picture there's a really nasty looking cut that's about 2 inches long. I doesn't go all the way through so I wasn't that worried about it at the time when I first took the sub out of the shipping box.
  18. Miles

So.... WTF happened to my DP?!

Very much so. It just sounds really nasty, and sounds like there is a rattle in my box, even though it's jus the surround in that one spot popping on and off the cone. Once I found out about it, I haven't turned it up at all. HOwever, I noticed a little bit before I discovered it that it wasn't near as loud as it had been, and that seemed a little odd to me.. It's just a little frustrating that a new sub would do this..
  19. Well, I finally got around to taking pictures. I'm a senior at my school, so pretty much I have free reign over the wood shop. Haha. I got started about a week ago on this box, but just kept forgetting to take pictures along the way, and luckily after talking to Nick at IA I remembered to bring my camera to school today. So far the box has 7 layers of glass (with a layer of fleece coated in resin on both sides), and I have yet to figure up exact specs, but I'm estimating around 2.5 cubes with a 6" aero that will be tuned to probably 34 hz. The original box I had in my truck was built by me a little over a year ago, and housed a Fi Bl 12. But it had a 3" aero and was severly choking the DP, but the DP was still a lot louder than the BL, even though the DP isn't even broken in yet. Hopefully I'll finish up this box next week after I put a few layers of bondo on it and get it all smooth and purdy. After it's all said and done, it will be painted gloss white, with a nice clear coat on it to keep it protected. Here's some specs on my truck: Headunit: Pioneer Premier 690 Door Speakers: Rockford Power series 6x9's Kickpanel speakers: Phoenix Gold RSD 6.5's Mids amp: Powerbass ASA 400.4 Sub amp: Powerbass ASA 1500.1 Sub: Incriminator Audio DP 12 D2 Wire: All 1/0 welding cable Electrical: 2 Batteries up front in the engine bay with Big 3 going to be ran later Anyway, I'm probably missing something or leaving something out so if anyone has any questions don't be afraid to ask.... On to the Pics!!!! Old box I made a year ago New box New DP compared to the BL which I thought was hella big at the time I got it. Lol

DP 12" in a Regular Cab Dodge

Thanks for everyones comments. And it really funny when I go somewhere and people ask who I had my system done by, and I'm like....Uh.... Me... Lol. I was playing around with some test tones yesterday and at about 18hz my who dash just bounces. Haha. I took some video and I need to get it uploaded but my camera doesn't show flex well. I haven't seen the video on my computer yet but it's amazing in real life. Haha. And I'll try to get some video of the sub moving at 10hz.....Lol.

DP 12" in a Regular Cab Dodge

And to KHARPS, there is not comparison between them. The DP was louder in the old box compared to the BL, and this new box is just stupid loud.. Lol. I'm very impressed with the sound. Country and Rock sound a hell of a lot better in this box than the old one. I LOVE IT!!! Haha.
