Got a Fi BL 12 for FREE!

Thank you pro-rabbit. Thats a good response. I should have mentioned earlier that a lengthening was only going to hold me over until a recone. I love all of the options psi has. I have yet to get a quote back from them yet, but i know its $120 from fi. Im glad someone chimmed in that has experience on both sides.

Ok. Thanks for the replys guys. I considered psi because ive heard their are a reputable company and provide a good product. I know this is a pro Fi/SSA/IA forum, but i just wanted unbiased opinions from people with experience of both products. I will probably be going with a factory recone. And i know its not "proper", but being honest, would it be OK for me to solder in an extension of the lead. It wont noticeably change resistence and with the sub seeing about 1000the watts, 12 gauge wire should be able to handle it.

Ok. Never dealt with psi but they look like great products. And i was just going lengthen it to play it a while before a recone, not permanent. Haha.
  4. Just a little walk around of the truck since i wrapped the box in Neffy Wrap and built the fiberglass door pods. The 8's are Precision Power PM.804's and the Tweets are AQ Bullets. I'm running 100 watts per door. On a side note: in the bed of my truck is a box i just built for 6 Sundown E8's. 4.2 cubes tuned to 32 hz with an 8" aero. Tell me what y'all think..
  5. Well i started this tonight. I'm still up in the air between picking either Sundown SA 10's, or Skar Audio VVX 10's. I'm kinda of leaning toward the Skars, simply because not many people have the 10's, and i see a lot of SA10 single cab truck installs. But anyway, the box is 2.4 cubes net with 2 4" PVC pipes (flared at the end) tuned to 33 hz. Will finish the box in the next couple of days, but still need to sell me current sub to buy the new ones. Anyone have suggestions on what kind of 10's i should run? I'll be putting about 1300-1400 wrms to the pair. And, is the little "blocker bar" in front of the port a good idea with the port being only about 7" from the sub? i've had problems before with past enclosures of the port being too close and the sub unloading a lot.

    2 10" box build for Dodge 1500

Also, if anyone is in the Stillwater, OKC, Tulsa area i'm wanting to get rid of the box that started this build (just taking up space in my garage. A very musical box that can get into the 140 range and dominate the lows. Don't really know what i would sell it for though... Thoughts on a good price for the box with 2 4" ports?

    2 10" box build for Dodge 1500

Thank you. The truck has always peaked at 40-41, but ever since i started firing the port to the passenger side, it has a peak at 41 and a peak at 24. Everyone is surprised at how low these 10's can go, but it's all in the box. I wasn't planning on keeping the DD's (wanted to go sundown sa's), but after re-metering, i think i'm going to stick with these. The passenger side builds a ton of pressure. I think i might be able to up my scores a couple of tenths if somebody puts their body weight against the passenger side door. On the 24 hz note the passenger door turns to jello. Haha.

    2 10" box build for Dodge 1500

Just got back from metering. As you all know i fixed my voltage problem and so it only drops to about 13 (used to drop to 11.8). Here are some numbers from today. And these numbers are from tones, but it does the exact same numbers on music. On the dash at 41 hz: 143.0 dB On the dash at 24 hz: 140.3 dB In the kick at 41 hz: 144.1 dB In the kick at 24 hz: 142.1 dB My amp (Powerbass ASA1500.1) was also clamped during these runs doing 1100 watts, rising from 1 to 2 ohms. I'm very impressed with this amp and these subs. Love the way they sound and this box is very musical, while putting up good numbers for a regular cab on 1100 watts.

I need to go back and stretch it some more (it kind of came undone when i cut the port part out). And i always use 3M Super 77 spray adhesive.

I love them. They are getting louder every day, and have a great kick to them on rock and country.

Here's some pictures of the Carbon Fiber vinyl wrap i just put on the box. Tell me what y'all think.

Video with the new box. Much louder and tons more flex. Still can't believe what these 1510's are capable of. Fixed my voltage issue, so instead of dropping to 11.5, it's now only dropping to 12.8.

    2 10" box build for Dodge 1500

Numbers didn't satisfy me enough, so i built another box. This one is 2.5 cubes with 42 sq in of port tuned to 38 hz. There is a big difference in how it sounds (better SQ), and it is noticeably louder in this box. Just because of how it loads in my truck, with the passenger side sealed off, it still kills all the way down to 24 hz. Going to go get it metered next week sometime. Don't think i'm going to do anything to this box as far as covering it goes. Video is still processing so it will be a while before there's a video of this up.

    2 10" box build for Dodge 1500

So, went and played around on a Term Lab this afternoon and here's some results: Windshield 40 hz: 139.4 dB Windshield 24 hz: 138.8 dB Kick panel 40 hz: 139.6 dB Kick panel 23 hz: 139.5 dB So far i'm very impressed at the low end these things have. Still want a better score so i'm going to build another box (maybe have this one subs behind drivers seat and port firing passenger side toward the top of the box instead of toward the bottom like this box was). I would like some input thought on box designs (volume, tuning, port area). I would like to put up a 142 or over, but still be able to play most music and not be a burp box. However, i do LOOOOVE the lows that this thing produces.

    2 10" box build for Dodge 1500

Thanks! These are very impressive subs. I had my heart set on some SA's, but that might be a while. I would still like to replace these with SA's, but so far i love these DD's. Need to go get my truck metered now to see what it can do. Just a guess but i'm thinking around a 141 at 40 hz on the dash. Have to see what it can do in the kick panel also. With the passenger door closed this thing is a low end beast. NEVER fealt this much air flow from 2 10's, let alone behind the seats of a singer cab. Might have to get some videos of the air movement this week.

Here's a video. And before anyone asks, it's just the camera playing tricks, the subs aren't out of phase. These absolutely destroy the lows.

So, change of plans a little. I found a really good deal on some brand new DD 1510's, so i had to grab them. Put them in the box and in the truck, and wow. For being a lower line DD sub, these sound amazing and hit harder than my Fi Bl did. Here's a few pictures and a video. These subs are still very stuff, so it will be a while before they break in, but i'm loving them so far. Video will come in a few minutes after Youtube is done processing.

    fi bl 10 wiring issue

If you cut 10" off the entire box starting from the back (including the port going out), the port will still be 3" from the back wall, and the adjusted port length will be a better suited tune (i think i said around 31 hz) instead of the 27 i calculated your box was at now. IF after the box has been trimmed, that at least rules 2 things out: 1. box is fine 2. subs are fine. So that only leaves a few things that aren't fine: 1. Amp is going out with the ohm load you have on it 2. subs are still somehow wired incorrectly 3. Headunit is sending a dirty signal past a certain volume (i think this is the case if it sounds fine up to a certain volume, them starts to distort) 4. There is a mysterious gremlin somewhere in your truck screwing things up when you're not looking THEN, if after checking all of that, the problem still persists..... Buy another 2500 and show them subs some real power.

    fi bl 10 wiring issue

Just did some quick figuring: If you literally lop 10" off from the back (including the port going straight into the box), that will give you 6 cubes net (after sub and port displacement), and your port will be 30" long giving you a 31 hz tuning. So 1.5 cubes per sub will on the high end, but at least it's the high end of recommended. And a 31 hz tune is great for Bl's to get nasty low and still be very loud (my box is tuned to 29 and is straight up nasty).

    fi bl 10 wiring issue

So i just did some rough calculating, and i'm sure i'm off, but not off by much. I'm getting (for the whole box) 8.0 cubic feet NET and tuned to 24 hz (going off 8 cubes, and 80 sq in of port, and port being 40" long). If that's the case, no wonder it's not sounding good. Someone correct me if i'm wrong, but i don't think i'm far off.

Another question that i don't think has been asked: What volume are you turning your headunit up to? IIRC the Pioneers go up to 62?

    fi bl 10 wiring issue

Never said they wouldn't be loud on <900 watts. They can be loud on 500 watts, but give them 1000 watts and they will really be loud. Like giving a door speaker 5 watts when it's rated for 15. Yes it will sound fine on 5, but it's made for 15 watts.

    fi bl 10 wiring issue

I'm going to guess that if he just hooked 1 of the subs up to the amp in the same box, that it's the box that's the problem. It honestly sounds like cancellation of the subs, but if they are wired correctly, the amp tested good, and the headunit tested good, that only leaves 1 thing: the box. The Bl's are great subs, but they need >900 watts to make them shine, and of course a box with the correct amount of volume and port area.
