That does look REALLY strange, first I have seen like that for which I can recall.  Glad you are back up and running.  I have Zcon prototype, just switched from one enclosure to another and did a full inspection.  So the very first Zcon ever has no flaws that I can tell.

Well i'm not quite back up and running, still have to buy a new amp and electrical to support it since i'm going bigger than the saz-2500d I was running.

interesting, i would just order a drop in recone. it looks like there was some kind of adhesive on the back of it there foam doesnt do that

Those pictures are from before the recone. I thought it looked like it had some kind of adhesive on it also.

I just got it back from SSA for a recone so it's good to go now.

    Did you buy it new?

Yeah bought it new and it looked like this after 2 years of use. I have no ideal how it ended up in that condition.

It looks perfect now after a recone but I don't want it to end up like those pictures. If there's an explanation that explains how it got like that then I would love to hear it so I make sure it doesn't happen again.

  4. I'm not doubting the durability of SSA's subwoofers. I just think the condition mine ended up in was kind of odd and not really explained. I look forward to giving the Zcon another run and hopefully I will be happy with it.

Surprised that surround had stress cracks, is it cold up where you are?

I'm just north of Charlotte, NC, it gets cold but nothing terrible. During January and February we do get down in the teens at night but during the day it's usually above freezing. I don't feel like it should be having any effect on the subwoofers condition. I let my car warm up for a while in the mornings during these conditions also. However if I have similar issues again then I might consider a different brand subwoofer if SSA's products can't hold up. Hopefully things go a little bit better for me this time around.

Did you actually blow the sub, and if so, how much power and time did it take? Or was it just needing a refresh, just curious how long one would last at max RMS.

No I didn't blow it up, just needed freshened up. The surround had a lot of stress cracks and a few decent cracks on the underside of it that I didn't like. I made a thread with some pictures a while back.

  7. Got the Zcon back today and the thing looks brand spanking new. Really happy with the outcome and big thanks to SSA for doing such a great job. Im still needing an amp, batteries, and wiring to get this build rolling. May be first of the year before this happens, waiting on bonus and tax money to fund the rest of the project. Will update when I get the rest of the things needed.

  8. Im really happy with Wolfgang products but there a little pricey. I polished with an orange/medium pad with there total swirl remover followed with there finishing glaze with a white/polishing pad. Topped it off with there deep gloss paint sealant and I was happy with the results. This was done with Lake Country Hydro-Tech Pads and a Griots Garage Orbital to be specific.

  9. Sending the Zcon off for a re cone, really excited to get it freshened up and back booming. Will be re doing my build also. Planning on new amp, wiring, batteries, and box. Maybe ill do a build log this time around but dont hold me to it lol.

I'd take a 12 in an optimally designed enclosure over a really cramped 15...but as you narrow that gap it could swap.

I had the same thought back when I was on the market for a sub and bought the zcon. I could fit a 15 in an optimal enclosure but its gonna require me building in the trunk. Wasn't trying to do that but things have changed since my original thinking and im very well considering moving to the 15 since I need to recone.

    Thanks for the opinion man.

I believe I replied to your email earlier today.

I didnt get any email, I have been getting notifications for fourm replies though. I know the 15" likes a little over 4 cubes for optimal or something like that. Was wondering what the max and min is for ported and ported optimal.

If you mean the products page, yes it is down temporarily for an update and rebuild.  Can I help with anything?

Was just trying to check out the box specs for a 15" zcon, when I do my recone I might try and squeeze a 15 in there.

First the zcon and now the alt you are having all kinds of problems. Is this a old build or car or something.

Well it was first the alternator and now the zcon. I better not go outside in a thunderstorm cause I feel like I might get struck by lightning lol.

There is nothing old in the picture here, just some good products taking a shit on me unfortunately.

  14. I tend to be impatient and maybe jumped the gun complaining about him. I kinda felt bad afterwards but I knew the alternator was acting up and I reached out a couple times over a course of time when it first started acting up and it was just an explanation after explanation that it was something else. I dont like being put on the back burner when I know what I was seeing and hearing was the alternator. He shouldn't of pushed me off and should have let me ship it to him to be looked at when I first contacted him.

Nothing last forever in the car audio world, just sucks mine failed as soon as it did and with him being a one man business you cant treat him like walmart. I feel like he makes good alternators and has good customer service when you have his attention. I haven't installed the alternator since getting it rebuilt but i'm not gonna give up faith on his alternators or reputation. I feel like my first alternator just decided it didnt want to do its job anymore and I shouldn't hold that against him.

I have forgiven him for his excuses and I hope he has forgave me for bashing on him. Hopefully this one will last longer and prove his reputation and alternators. I tried to have the thread taken down over at caraudio.com so I wasnt leaving a bad mark on his name but had no luck in getting any help from anyone.

That to me looks like dry rot from being in a hot car for a long time but I just seeing this on a tiny iPhone screen and can't see what you see. But if it's playing and sounds fine I would just over look it and beat it to death before I paid for a recone but I understand if you think it's not what it should be and you wanna make it a 100%.

Somone over on caraudio.com said it looks as if its been hot and cold a lot. North Carolina has hot summers and reasonably cold winters but your should be able to leave your system in your car year round without issues I feel like.

You might have a good point about beating her up some more before doing a recone, glad you mentioned that.

  16. Thought I would update this for those that commented or were maybe following.

My singer alternator was in need of a rebuild. Mike fixed it up and got it back to me in a timely manner. Its been sitting in my closet for a while now, haven't got around to putting it back in. Hopefully I don't have to do this every two years, it will get old swapping alternators.
