I can certianly see your points... Sucks as I've been kinda out of the industry for abit and have no real way to tell about a shop... Every shop I go to is bound to tell me they are the best... I've Hauled off and got married, re-modeled a house, few other family projects, and done a ton of things to take me out of the Custm Car/Car Audio world... So, I no longer have the same Car Audio circle connections I used to have and most of the people I now associate with think stereos are cool, but are not going to spend any money on it.. Over the last few years I've tried to keep up, but I've slowly sliped away.. ... I'm still sad that all the "True" Car Audio Mags are dead and gone... I'll have to go visit a few shops and see whats doin... Thanks for the reply...

Jacob, I was wondering if you/Sundown ever considered making endcaps to go on the ends of their amps to cover all the wiring, knobs, inputs, etc... Also a space or cap two go between two amps to make it look like one continous amp would be sweet... So you would have Endcap|Amp|Endacp or Endcap|Amp|Spacercap|Amp|Endcap They look sweet the way they are, but I think this would really clean them up.... Thoughts?

So I just picked up a 2005 TrailBlazer and the factory Head Unit has to go.... I have alway like Kenwood head Units so, I'm looking at the Kenwood DDX514.... http://www.crutchfield.com/p_113DDX514/Kenwood-DDX514.html?tp=20217 It seems to cover most of my wants... Nice Bright easy to see/read display in all lighting conditions. If its going to have one, it might as well be good! Ipod control, not just Aux input, but seemingly native controls with Album art, playlists and all (need a 30.00 cable) Ability to hook up an HD tunner (extra 80 bucks I think) Ability to hook up a Sirius (again Controls it natively, not just a aux input) (I have sirus and love it for travel) Ability to add Navigation module (not huge deal, already have a upper end garmin that I'm real happy with) Does have Aux, so if I come up with something new, I can pipe it in. Front and Rear USB Ports (no plans for them, but I'd be glad to have'em, keeps futher options open and seems like an easy way for Firmware upgrades) Plays may formats of media on Burnt CDs and DVDs and re-writables... Some units, won't do Burnt especially DVDs... Decent price, I think its just under 600.00, before add on modules... Dual Zone, so I can hook up something for the kid in the back seat if I want to later (probably wont) I'm sure there are a few more things that are pluses, but Nothing big... Now my Complaints Doesn't come with the Stupid Wireless remote (WTF kind D.B. move is that????) (extra 30.00) (Good news is its cheap to replace, my last one was a 100.00, still looking for that MF'er) Looks like it does not have a dedicated Sub Pre Out... It has a Dedicated Front Pre-out and the Rear is Switchable from Full Range to Sub only??? (Another D.B. move, who that puts in a mid grade headunit with features like this doesn't want 6 Channels of Output??? F+R+S I'm thinking that is a deal breaker for me... I want F+R+S Pre-Outs.... Thoughts, are I just being stuborn on the preouts? Is there another unit that everything I mentioned above????

hmmm, I think the only one of those I'd consider is the Clarion... The other units either did not fit the bill or had mostly really crappy reviews, which neither the Kenwood nor the Clarion had, which I think is to be expected... I've had and liked a few of Clarions headunits in the past... Pluses to the Clarion over the others others... 4Volts (most have 2, but not a huge deal, I don't even know if I need that much) I do like Clarion. I do like the looks... Not to flashy, almost could pass for factory till its in use... Has most of the options I want... Negatives Screen has to flip down to putin/remove CD, seems like it will be a source of a problem in a few years... Those crappy contacts and ribbon cable wear out... Keys are only Blue NO EQ or Sound Shaping, nice to be able to tweak it abit, though it does have a few pre-canned presets no security lock No usb/mem card slot (not a huge deal) HD Radio module or tuner NO... Thats a big negative, I swore next H.U.. I buy would have HD... I do listen to alot of Jazz and Hip Hop/Rap and the radio stations in my area have been doing a lot of shuffling of music types/Formats, etc... The only Smooth Jazz station is now only HD or web streamable and one of the two stations that played Rap music has went the same way... Not sure why.. Another big minus, it doesn't seem like the Ipod integration is well implemented... The iPod's controls will be locked during audio playback; [b[during photo and video playback, the controls on the iPod are used to control playback. One of the goofy cable will not charge the Ipod Touch which I have, with out a Schocshe add on module... Seems half baked... Even with all those Negatives listed, its still better than the rest... I think its the only contender on that site.... I guess I need to do some more researching (most likely spend more).. Thanks for the links, I totally missed that Clarion unit...

Thats the way I took it.... If it wasn't for that, I think the unit would be a slam dunk... To get 6 Channels, like most people would want in a simmilar unit in their line, you would have to move up the the 900.00 Plus model and still have to buy all the modules, plus the d@mn remote.... Those two things really get me... I tried looking at other brands, and I haven't found anything else that I like the way it looks (reguarding its layout of button/knobs/touch controls) .... D@mn, I hate being picky... Was hoping I misread or Misunderstoood and someone was going to school me... Sigh!!!

Stop getting so emotional and colorful, nobody spoke on Jacobs word (read the rules it says dont be upset on answers to a topic you create, people will have opinions and I find it hilarious all three of mine were examined and taking out of context and colored with Christmas Colors). Sorry for chimming in an hitting your sensitive button (I take all my commens back, jay-cee didnt say anything). I'm not emotional, maybe colorful... I'll admit those colors are horrible and I suck at the quoting as said above... Not sure how I took you out of context, I just replied on what you said... x2, plus it may interfere with the heatsinks and it would increase price a little bit (Im more worried about performance than bs for looks, I really doubt it... If anything it would help... + I do shows and I want my ish to look really nice... Even thought I can apprecieate the craftsmanship of a sweetly done MDF Enclosure, I want to take it to the next level and FINISH it... You don't have too , but you don't have to stop everyone else... Options... Their nice to have... even though Sundowns are the sexiest amps out there its just something about that all black with the silver look). I can't argue that they are some sexy lookin amps... Wouldn't even try... However, I'm not sure you understand what I'm talking about... The end caps would look just like the amp, and so would the spacer that would go between the two or three amps making the apearance of one really long jumbo amp... It would be cut from the same stock as the current chassis or cover... Maybe I'll see if I can draw up something ( Not only do I suck at spelling, and quoting on this forum software but I suck at the drawing too) Im pretty sure Jacob thought about what could have gone on his amps and went with what worked best, just my .02. I can not wait to see how this enclosure turns out... The size of those subs and the size of that vent are killin me!!!! As far as covering the enclosure, ever seen suede flocking??? You can get it in about any color, its sprays on so it will cover any shape..

I bet its as expensive as hell... Saw a bunch that looked like that in Audiophile magazine a few years ago, they were all in the 10-12,000 range and up.... Tad rich for my budget...

OK, I really misunderstood what you wanted to do... I made a second back pannel that I mounted the LCDs in/too, I did not cut a hole in the enclosure itself for the LCDs... I think this will have or develop leakage issues and be bad on the LCD.... Thay say not to even mount electronics on the back of a Sub enclosure because of the vibrations, but in it... Yea I was way off and mis-understood... Not trying to rain on your parade, just trying to be helpful as thats what were all here for... Well, most.. Well, you've already got it cut out, so hopefully it works out for the best!!!!! If this will upload, here is how I had just the two LCDs, one on either side of my amp... I can't find pics of it with the Amps in the front of the enclosure and the bigger LCD in the middle... We re-did it like 3-4, 5 times... I'm never happy...

Eh, Sadly I didn't... Makes sense now.... Last shooter I played was Halo 1 and 2 on my Xboxes... Took the one outta my Blazer, so now we have one upstairs and one down... I've had a AGC (i think its called, Glass Tube looking fuse) and two 300 amp circuit breakers, both bolted to the inside fenderwell metal about 8" back from the batt... Now that you mention it, I'm kinda wondering how I'm going to do the next set up, where I have 4 or so runs of 0/1... Hmmm I want them fused up front and at the rear before the rear Batts.... Some might say its not needed, overkill, waste or whatnot, but think about it... You have several runs of some fat cable running from front to back to a big bank of rear batts, for some dumb reason, you get a short under the floor or somewhere along the lines, the front fuse(s) blow... Your still not really safe as the back batts are still shorted and feeding power back up to the front/break... Power goes both ways... NOT real good... I've seen this happen and cause a fire.. One reason I always kept a pair of wire cutters and a fire extinguisher in my ride...

What are you puttin this in??? Any pics of what you got goin on now??? How are you going to power a 20"+ LCD? Is it native to 12V??? The one I had would run on 12V DC or 110AC.... For the Xbox and small Hub I had to have a Power inverter...
