    Memphis 500/1 amp

    Memphis 4AWG amp wiring kit

Had the system for a month now but I just got a hold of a camera and finally took some pics of the setup. I absolutely love it. 2 thumbs up to Ascendant Audio!

Likes: Very good SQ for a daily driver, I know they could sound better if the box would have been ported but space was a limitation and they still sound great. I didnt nor do I ever plan entering any sort of sound competitions so I wasnt looking for a system to blow my brains out, but for the size and quality I couldnt pass them up.

    Dislikes: None so far?

I mostly listen to modern rock and rap. (Breaking Benjamin, Godsmack, Chevelle, 12 Stones, Tool, Lil Wayne, Eminem, Luda, etc...) and so far I havent found any songs in particular they sound bad on.

Any questions feel free to ask.

  2. Ok I had some troubles but I finally got the system in and finished. Huge thanks to scott over at Fi for taking care of me and definately going the extra mile for his customers

This thing pounds, I'll definately try and get some pics asap when I can get ahold of a camera.

  3. Well, it was in fact the sub. We all know that subs are magnatized from the manufacturer and mine were not. I pulled the subs out and placed a drop forged steel wrench onto the back of the sub to find that there was NO magnetic activity what so ever.

  4. Sending a memphis amp that is stable to only 2 ohms is probably the MAJOR issue here...

I suggest disconnecting the speakers immediately from the amp....

When you head into the shop ask to be present when they look over the install and equipment...

ask to see the READING on the DMM for the subs that go into the amp.....

If the reading says 1ohm then ask them for a refund immediately and explain to them that as "professionals" why would they send a 2 ohms stable amp a 1 ohm load...

If it says 4 ohms on the DMM then ask for an immediate refund since they have already been dishonest with you by saying it was a 1 ohm load... (i have seen this tactic by another shop before, you bring in outside subs, they wire it so it sounds like crap, then throw in one of theirs, wire it correctly, sounds good, you end up buying theirs since you think the outside brand sounds like crap)...

At half gain, the subs produced no sound at all. Amp is brand new as well.

If they sent a 1 ohm load to that amp it would produce no sound probably cause it was going into protect to avoid damage.....

Wiring: Subs wired at 2ohms each totaling 4ohms then bridged to 1ohm to the amp.

If the installer told you this ask them why they would send a 1 ohm load to a 2 ohm stable amp ??

Last of all i would pull out the subs and check the wiring... one coil could be out of phase and wired incorrectly... that may lead to subwoofer issues as well... make sure the coils are both wired correctly...

Can you explain the last part about coils and what not? More in detail so my beginner mind can kinda make sense of it?

  5. Well I was probably at fault for jumpin the gun about qualifying these subs as crap. I apologize, Im just really pissed that my 850 dollar setup, is crap.

I need to know the specifics on how these things should be wired up or something. I need to argue something with them

I give permission to change the title to something less subjective and accusing.

  6. I mentioned in the first page that the they have the subs wired at 2ohms each then bridged to 1ohm into the amp. I need hardcore factual info cause i'll walk back in they'll say they cant do anything..I cant prove them different cuz im an idiot at this stuff.

  7. Im from Cookeville, TN.

Im going back to the shop tomorrow, try and sort this all out. I ended up paying 650bucks for the box, install, amp, and all other stuff to get it up and running. I only supplied the subs,

Can someone give me the exact explanation of how it should be wired, I wish scott would chime in. I have a feeling that the installers wont wanna back me up and AA will insist its not there subs.

  8. Yah, theres something coming out. Its at full gain and I really cant tell when I have my headunit cranked. Its very quiet, no thump or nothing really. Just a vibration really.

Im a college kid livin on my own mang, I had the money from my summer job and thought it'd be a lot less of a headache to let a pro do it. One less worry on me...I normally do my own chit but this wasnt something i thought i needed my hand in.

  9. I know nothing of wiring. I paid for a box, they said ported wouldnt fit..I got sealed.

Are you saying just disconnect power to one sub, see if the other hits hard..if it does...whats wrong?

If they arent seeing the right amount of power, tell me how it should be done....if they say they tried that, I do what? Call them idiots?

  10. System Info.

    2000 Std. Cab S10

    Amp: Memphis 500/1 (Brand New)

Box: Estimated 1.7 total cubes SEALED

Wiring: Subs wired at 2ohms each totaling 4ohms then bridged to 1ohm to the amp.

Headunit: Jensen VM9312 7'' Touchscreen, 3 weeks old.

Misc: 6.5 Clarion Coaxial door speakers, everything else stock.

I just called the installer and he said theres no way it was in his install. I need to know whats going on!!

    And thanks for the help.

  11. I think it came out to .85cubes a sub. I dont remember if its ported or sealed and I dont wanna go check. I told them to make it ported so I assume it is, ive been so distraught over their crap Ive just kinda zoned everything else out.

  12. Alright, I dunno wtf went wrong or why it happend but my two Assasain Series 8's sound like complete ass. I had a shop install my subs for me, custom built wood box, memphis 500watt amp and they BLOW!! I think my stock system bumps harder than these things. I dunno what the hell is wrong. I got the subs, they sat in the box for like a week and a half, then got installed. The installed said he looked the whole sub and system over and saw nothing wrong. They hooked up a Memphis 8'' into my box and it hit harder by itself, HELD IN PLACE, than my two subs did screwed down and cranked.

Im pretty much pissed off to no extent right now, id love it if someone on here of authority could help me deal with this. Theres no fudgein phone number to contact this company and the last 2 emails ive sent about past issues, I got no freakin response.

  13. Ok so for my system I'm going to be using a Memphis PR500 (Im almost certain thats what it was) to power my two Assasain 8's so first off...is this a good choice for these subs. I know its a good amp, so I think that question was actually redundant....secondly. How much amp draw on my electrical system will I be seeing when I have this thing pounding?

  14. Thanks fellas. It says my 8's should be here next monday so hopefully I'll have em all installed by the next weekend. I really hope these things are the chit, I didnt realize how much they were compared to other stuff. Hopefully it'll be worth it.
