1500 watts on BL Vs BTL

Ive got the same CD player u got. The preout voltage on it is kinda low. It says 2.2 volts, do you match the gain to 2.2 volts or is it alright to turn it up a little bit. I know what everyone says about clipping but how much is too much. Also, are those speakers maxed out with the power you're giving them. Nice setup by the way.

1500 watts on BL Vs BTL

Bigjon, I have a 03 lincoln towncar and im assuming that the one in your avatar is yours. Do you shoot your speakers back or into the cabin, most cars dont have that big shelf where the gas tank is. Also what can I expect with BLs as far as overall output, does it still get down on the lows. And does your trunk flex and rattle like a mofo or do you have sound deadener.

1500 watts on BL Vs BTL

If it is 3dbs more that means it should be 2wice as loud right. Do the Bls still sound decent on the lows or do they lean more towards SPL.
  4. I currently have a pair of Q's each running off 1500 watts. I wanted to do a sound quality setup but now im wishing I would have gone with the BLs because all i really wanted to do is get loud. is there any way i can exchange my pair of Qs for a pair of BLs. Thanks Keith

What is FI's policy on exchanges

When I first built the box it was tuned to 32hz. The SSfrequency was set to 20 hz and it made the popping sound on low notes. I know someone who has SSDs and he told me to tune lower and it would take care of the problem. One of the moderators told me to set my subsonic 3-4hz higher than tuning. So i tuned lower at 28hz and put the around 35 and it doesnt make the poping noise on 30hz and under now, only around 35-40hz and only on a few songs. Could it have anything to do with my port area. The box is split into 2 chambers, each port(L port) is 2x20.5" with a length of about 34. The speakers are dual 2 wired to 1 ohm. Any help is appreciated.

What is FI's policy on exchanges

Dont get me wrong, they sound especially good on the lows but on some notes (punchy notes around 35-40hz) the speakers sound like they are about to fly out of the box and they make a nasty popping sound. If i turn down the volume where the bass isnt distorted it doesnt seem that loud to me. It seems like i have too much power going to them. Ive got them in a 7 cubic foot box tuned to 28hz. I have 2 mtx TA81001 amps, one for each sub. Voltage stays around 13 volts. Bass boost is set at 0, gain is a little bit under halfway. subsonic is at 35 hz, X-over is set around 90. I also have the BP option.

does a Q15 sound like this or is it just me

So i backtracked all my calculations and i figured out the problem. I tuned the box wrong, it's tuned to 33 hz not 28hz. I did turn up the SS frequency and it got rid of the popping sound. Cant wait to tune for some lows but i think ill do it tomorrow when my ears stop ringing
  8. I got a pair of Q15's yesterday. I put them in the box which is 3.5 cubes tuned to 28hz and they sounded different then anything else ive ever heard. As much as everyone praises the low-end ability of the Q it seemed to me that the higher notes(40-60hz) sounded louder. The low notes made a popping sound that sounded like it might be hurting the speaker. I called someone who runs the ssd series and he said he had the same problem. He told me to tune them to 32hz and it would fix it but the whole reason i wanted the Qs is to hit lows. Should i give the speakers some time to break in or is anyone else having this problem. 2 Q15s 2 MTX TA81001 Thanks Keith

does a Q15 sound like this or is it just me

yep ive got the gain matched with preout voltage and the boost turned up just a little bit. My subsonic is down to 20hz and the low-pass is set around 60hz. It hits low bass but when I put in chopped n screwed kind of stuff thats when it makes the popping sound. My port area is 41 square inches but it is a slot port that is 2x20.5 and 24.5 deep. Does the area seem like it could be a factor.

    Mtx TA81001 on FI Q 15

Hi, Ive got a MTX TA81001 amp that pushes 1500 watts at 1 ohm and im going to run a 15 inch Q. Do i need to get the BP option or will it be fine without it.

    Mtx TA81001 on FI Q 15

Im also wondering what a sealed q18 would sound like. would it be louder than a ported 15 or would I just be wasting my money. Thanks for your help.
  13. I was thinking maybe a 200 amp alternater and a yellow top battery in the back and that would supply enough power. Maybe ill just do 2 15's so i can save a little money. Would it be worth it to get the bp power option or should i go with the standard setup. How do you think 2 fi q 15's with 3000 watts would compare with 2 jl 13w7's with 2 jl 1000/1 amps (just asking because my buddy thinks FI is a wannabe JL.) Thanks Keith
  14. Hi, I have been looking at FI for a while and I am thinking about getting 4 Q 12's. I will be running 2 MTX TA92001 amps which put out 3000 watts rms @1 ohm or 2000 @2 ohms. would 1000 watts (2 ohm setup) be enough to max out the sub or should I run a 1 ohm setup and just turn it down a little bit and give it more power. also, I have about 10 cu ft of trunk space and i am probably going to run 2 cubes ported for each sub. Should i seperate each sub in its own 2 cube box with its own port or just build a big box with no seperaters and one big port. and one final question for those of you who have had experience with the Q's and the BL's. How much louder will the BL's get and how much SQ do you lose compared to the Q's (especially with the lows). Thanks Keith
  15. I will be getting a new alternater. Ive never used bracing but ive never used that much power. why is it so important, will the box come apart if it is not braced.
