  1. repost !

But still as good as it was before.

Is that grille functional, I wanted to get one but i also wanted it to protect my sub since my mom haphazardly places things in her trunk

Repost my ass! I ripped the box apart and rebuilt half of it... plus the floor! :D

The grill is functional with big boxes. Smaller or oddly-shaed things can still poke through. But all the grills that offered more protection were just too bling-blingy. I'm more of a minimalist when it comes to grills, so this seemed the best option. (I tried making my own... but... it didn't exactly come out as I had envisioned. ;))

So yea, if the object isn't tall enough to hit the grill, it'll just slide into the surround. And if it's weirdly shaped, it'll just slide between the rails. You can experiment with different directions (vertical, 45-degree angle, etc.), but each will have their own disadvantages in terms of protection.

  2. Also, I really like the black cones, are the production run drivers going to be coming with these?

This is all we know at current:

Yes, similar to Entasi's.  I'll look into getting the cone black... but I want to make sure the integrity of the driver won't be compromised - as I know in the past, the paint on the surface of the aluminum has posed some potential issues with the adhesion of the glue to the surround.  I'll see what I can do.

  3. I don't believe that they're using the Eclipse baskets. I'd guess that the appearance will be closer to this, but with a shiny dustcap:

Mike, are you keeping woven leads for the RL-s? RE doesn't seem to like them, and I've noticed that SI recently switched to unwoven leads in their prototype (unless my memory fails me, their older subs were woven).

  4. Denim, the cone will not be the same as the current drivers I'm carrying.  Rather, it'll be a matte off-white/silverish aluminum cone, possibly with a polished aluminum inverted dustcap in the center.  We had to go this route because the black annodized cones wouldn't offer as strong a connection to the linear voicecoil, and I want to make sure these drivers are as close to bullet proof as possible ;) .. I'll make sure it looks good though, don't worry about that!

    Similar to Entasi's cone?

  5. I don't think Adire needs a version of the LMT.  That what XBL^2 is for.  Only downfall to the LMT is the SVC and the fact that as of right now, as far as most of us know, It cannot be adapted to the smaller drivers such as XBL^2.

And Kent, thanks for not making me say it.

    And from the AA website:

We actually modeled up our new 6.5 inch midrange in both XBL2^TM and the new technology and ended up with nearly identical results. The 6.5 will now also be built with this non-XBL2^TM technology.

I'm not sure that LMT can be applied to a 6.5". If not, this is evidence against LMT as their new topology.

  6. I hate living on the east coast! I wake up to this, and the rest of the world already knows. :(

And here I was trying to be Mr. News Anchor this morning. But I guess you can delete my spotlight moment... *sigh*... :P

    :coffee:

  7. ummmmm..so ur saying it sounds good and gets loud, correct??

Cliffs Notes: oh yes it does. :) I'm not trying to distract from the fact that it definitely does sound great and can get extremely loud, even when sealed.

I'd still love to hear some of the 'supersubs' to compare, though. Right now, my sub resum

  8. That really is beautiful!  Thanks for posting it over here  :woot:

I've been meaning to get that up on the site but just haven't got to it.. this was a good way to refresh my memory! :P  .. but it looks like I'm heading up to San Francisco tomorrow for a few days, as well as being in the midst of revamping the product section of the website (click here to get an idea).. so it'll still be a week or three before I get a chance to tackle the whole "Other Stuff" section sealedlips.gif

Well, I do strive for subtlety. :P

    Anyway, you don

  9. I just realized that I've never posted this over here. I put it one CA.com a while ago, but it would be nice to copy it onto this board, considering the content. So...

This being my first sub box, I was a bit unprepared for fiberglass. Skin allergies and fiberglass fibers/resin/sharp points do not mix very well. ;) Also, it

  10. I too was wondering about the comments dan wiggins made about lmt, so I pM'd warbleed on SD since he seems to know quite a bit about speaker design. He wasnt too specific but he basically said dw didnt really accurately describe LMT. Apparently dw described it as just adding extra truns on the end of the vc, but in reality it is a progressive increase in the number turns which will eliminate or greatly lessen some of the problems dw had with it.

Anoother one of dw's concerns was the high inductance of the driver, which should apparently be much lower on the ss LMT than it was on the 48 mm protos, so that appatrently isnt much of an issue either. Besides, we're talking about subs here, not midranges.

I found it kind of funny that dw was complaining about the size of LMT. I am not sure if the new re supersub uses xbl^2 but that thing has like a 14" mounting depth or something insane like that. Yet it will have very similar displacement numbers to the initial lmt protos.

Thanks for the update. I've been hoping that Ponte and Wiggins will get into a sparring match, but so far nothing. But at least another engineer has voiced his view...

  11. i wish i could say..but i'm not the only one in contact with mike about this. so i'm not necessarly goingto be first (if that's who ur referrring too). but i'm sure mike will shed some light on it when he gets here..

    wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee :slayer:

Hopefully he'll send it to someone with an XBL^2-enabled driver of the same cone size, and with similar power handling and box requirements...

    ...anyone have a Tumult? ;)

  12. I think a return customer discount would be an AWESOME idea  ;)

    x17!!

I also really think svc 2 ohm or less would be the way to go. I think most people running high power amps are running monoblocks that do max power at 1 or 2 ohms, so a svc 4 ohm would just make most have to go buy a new amp. Keep up the good work mike!  :slayer:

Brands like Arc, Zapco, and Avionixx (off top of head, here) give max power at 4ohms. Others, like DLS and Orion (again, top of head), do so at 1ohm. Some, like Tru, give max power at either impedance, depending on the model. Some, like JL and PG have regulated power supplies that outputs the same at various impedances. It's not really something you can generalize... although it sounds like a 2ohm DVC driver would be ideal, hmm? ;)
