    Unbelievable...

I have a 1992 Camry. I wont be smashing any giant boxes in the trunk because its still my daily driver. Lol. I will take some pics of my Install and show you guys what I'm working with. This car is very difficult to work with because of the size and the fact that no one really puts very much audio stuff in them. So I have no examples to work with. But Im learning as I go. I will be setting the SS to 35 hz right now.

    High Output Alternator Questions

Hi everybody. I just installed my new high output alternator today hoping that it would stop my voltage from dropping like what would happen with the stock alternator. But it didn't. It sits at 14.1 volts where as the stock alternator sat at 14.4. I did all the big 3 upgrade wires in 0 awg wire as well. I am running a bzr1200.1d at 2 ohms with a 12" Type R D4. At 14.4 volts its supposed to push 900 wrms but the new 180amp alternator has the same voltage drop that the stock alternator had... Why isn't the new alternator keeping the voltage up?? Im not even pulling anywhere near 180 amps. Any input would be awesome.

    Unbelievable...

I actually took a day off work and spent all day making a box to house the new BL. Went over my measurements like ten times made everything and glued it and nailed it all together. Went to put in my car and it didnt fit!!!! Lol. I couldnt believe it. My original plan was for 4 cubes at 33 hz but had to cut 4 inches off the front and ended up with 3.5 cubes at 37 hz. Even that barely fit in my car... Got the sub in and everything hooked up and it is so much louder than my previous Type R 12". Love the thing!! I will look into making a better box for it when I get some more time. FI FTW!!!!!!!!!

I did not do it while there was a load. I shall give that a try as well.

    High Output Alternator Questions

I do have a dmm and I checked the voltage coming off of the posative post of the alternator and it was running exactly the same as after the fuse. So thats not the problem. I was unable to get my battery checked this weekend due to work but Ive checked all my grounds and connections elsewhere and everything looks good and secure. So I've some to the conclusion that the battery can not handle the intial pull of a heavy bass hit but the alternator can help the battery keep up a long rolling bass note. I will save up and look into an Optima Yellow top for my BDay in August and hope that clears up all voltage drop I have. Thanks for all your help everybody!!

    High Output Alternator Questions

I was just reading up on some posts in the Amd Head Unit section on the forum and sound a thread talking about the fuse between the alternator and the battery causing resistance and making it harder for the alternator to put out. I have a KnuConceptz inline fuse holder with 3 60 amp mini ANl fuses inbetween. Could this be the reason my alternator is sitting at 14 volts instead of something higher?? To much resistance?? Sounds plausable??

    High Output Alternator Questions

I ran a ground wire from the negative battery post to the top mounting bolt on the alternator and it seemed to work a little better. The voltage was sitting at 14.4 but I didn't get a chance to drive around and test it yet. I will be taking in my battery to get tested later today or maybe tomorrow. If it turns out that I need a new one I will start researching which one I will need to get. I was interrupted by the FedEx guy bringing a special package containing a BL 15. Lol. I will see how the alternator preforms when I drive to work today. Thanks everyone for your help. I will work on everything you guys mentioned to help my install preform a little cleaner!!

    High Output Alternator Questions

Im going to check all my grounds tomorrow. But today while I was driving home without any music on the voltage was sitting at 13.9 volts and if I turned the music up to what I call high/regular volume the voltage would drop as low as 12.9 volts and only come back up to 13.8. I will change the bass boost and low pass tomorrow but even with the amp not doing anything at all the alternator is not putting out a very good voltage in the first place. I have heard nothing but good things about Singer alternators and cant figure out why mine is not working like all the other ones I've seen. Mike said to run that ground from the batt negative to the alternator bolt and check the belt. I have the alternator mount grounded on the chassis and the belt is tight (no noise or slipping). I just don't get it... The 20 year old stock 80 amp alternator would come back to a 14.4 even after I ran my sub as loud as I could without clipping...

    High Output Alternator Questions

Everybody's input has helped. I will be checking all my connections tomorrow before work and Saturday I will have my battery tested to see what state it is in. After that I will look into grounding my amps to the front batt negative with new battery new terminals. I just want my purchase to have a long, well lived life.

    High Output Alternator Questions

If changing the negative ground will not help with anything then would could be causing the dramatic drop in voltage?? With the 180 amp alternator there should be no shortage of amps ready to use. It is still fairly cool out too and I'm worried that the 100+ temps will cause my voltage to drop even lower than it does now. The only thing that could really make a difference from what I am hearing is to ground the amps to the negative post on the batt. And getting a new batt. Its a little frustrating that the 14.7 steady volts aren't coming from the alternator since it was so expensive but everybody's help is much appreciated. Tomorrow I will be able to go through all my connections and make sure that everything it grounded to well sanded metal. If that does not make a difference should I remove the new alternator until August when I can afford a new battery?? To keep it from getting damaged??

    High Output Alternator Questions

Battery terminals are on my list of upgrades... I contacted Mike and he told me to run a direct ground from the negative batt post to the mounting bolt of the alternator to yeild the best ground possible. Should I just run a piece of 0 awg from the mounting bolt on the alternator to the batt negative and then the batt negative to the shock mount to ground that??. I do not play my stereo when the car is off and if I do it is at very low volume with the sub turned all the way down. As for the ground from the amps to the front battery post?? I was told that the ground should not be longer than 2 feet??

    High Output Alternator Questions

I was able to tension the belt properly without getting a different size. It is equipped with the smaller pulley to increase idle output. My gains are set as following. SS: 30hz. Bass Boost half way up. Level somewhere near 2.5 volts. Low pass around 200 hz. I can post pictures of my gains after I get home from class if that can help. I ran 0 awg from + post on alternator to + on batt. Negative from batt to drivers side shock tower bolt and negative from mounting bolt for alternator to passenger side shock tower bolt. What is an agm battery?? The Interstate battery I had before lasted 8 years but that was before my stereo system started growing. Is it possible I killed this battery in 3 years after running the 900 wrms for just a year?? Thanks for all your help everybody.

    High Output Alternator Questions

This morning before even putting the key in the ignition I measured the battery with a multimeter. It was sitting at 12.5 volts. After turning on the accessories the voltage dropped to around 12.2 volts. And after turning the ignition on the voltage dropped to 11.9 volts. When I started the car the alternator was putting out a steady 14.5 volts with no music on while I drove about 10 min to the store. Then after coming out of the store the alternator sat at 14.2 volts. Then after playing some music I noticed that at the initial hit of the bass the voltage would drop into the 13's but always come back up to 14.1-14.2 volts. Now I'm guessing that this is from the computer trying to keep up with the music.

    High Output Alternator Questions

After allowing my car to sit all night. When I get up in the morning for class the meter reads 11.8 to 12 volts usually before starting. So Im feeling that my battery is reaching the end of its life. I just checked the date when it was purchased and its coming up on exactly 3 years old. It has been through very hard weather conditions though. Ranging from below 0 to over 100. Will my alternator be okay until I can purchase a new battery around August??

    High Output Alternator Questions

Even while Im driving at 2000 rpms the voltage drops when the bass hits hard. But doesn't stay low. Its more like dancing around between 12.9 and 14.1 volts. I plan on running my BL at 1200 wrms until I upgrade to something around 1500 wrms. If there is his much voltage dance at 900 wrms will combined amps running around 2000 wrms total be to much for the alternator??

    High Output Alternator Questions

The reason for the high output alternator is for my FI Bl 15 I have on order. It is a Singer alternator. The stock put out 80 amps and I had a lot of light dimming when I turn the bass nob all the way up and still have a lot of voltage dropping. I measure the voltage with a Stinger volt meter tapped into my head unit wires. I also have an Interstate battery under the hood that is about 4 years old. I was hoping the alternator would stop the voltage drop and won't have enough money to upgrade anything else for a while. The voltage drops when I put my brakes on and come to idle but retires to 14 volts. My amps are grounded to the rear seatbelt bolt. Sanded to bare metal.

    Black vs Silver baskets ?

So this means that the BL 15 that I ordered at the begining of April might have a black basket?? I think either black or silver, they look amazing. But Im still curious what color mine will be. Lol.
