  1. To me it seems like a major pain in the behind and I've worked on some pretty ugly stuff.

I figured as much. Why is that manufactures only make products for dummies?

nick19 and sqjeep I see a problem with running two crossovers. I'd be willing to bet that it will effect phase.

You could see with an O-scope maybe. I don't know.. I just use the xover on the amp, but I can tell no difference when I turn the one on my headunit on... No affect in TermLab score either... :ughdunno:

  2. Correct...

    I said it wasn't a fair test.

I posted the pics just to show the difference

between the two types of subs.

Not everyone wants SQ and not everyone wants huge spl.

Some just don't know the diff. between the two.

Plus not everyone is dumping 4~15or18's in their ride..

A lot of variables come into play since we're all not lemmings

wanting to jump off the same cliff. (so to speak)

    I like that metaphor... lol

  3. In reference to ScottXGTRs question "of those 4000 topics, how many are "A vs B" threads " meaning, that the answer would lie somewhere between 3 and 4000 topics... which would actually make a good question for a contest (although I surely wouldnt want to count them to know the answer).

    Thanks,

    Scott

Oh I didn't see his post. Haha.

  4. i personally love my 18 q and btw with the bp power option the rated power handling is up at 1500wrms but you can safely push 2000 to them as i did without any problems. also i had mine in an 11 cube box tuned to 27 hz and was hitting low 140s on music. and weather u get the 12 or 15 you will be verry happy with it a friend of mine has a 12 q in a center consoul box thats 3 cubes tuned to 33hz and the thing is amazingly loud for its size and available power. he even gets a fair amount of door flex :)

So, you guys sold me on the q again, congrats! haha and with that change came with an amp change. I am now wanting to get the sae 1200d to run 1200 watts to it if the bp option really pushes it to 1500 watts. How does it sound in sealed boxes? If it sounds well i may just get a 15 and get a 2.5 cubic feet box. Could that fit in my truck?

Good choice my friend. My friend has two of the 15's and I must say that they will happily handle everything we have given them.

What are your max dimensions? All three sides please...

PS - I know nothing about how sealed sounds :D

  5. I got impatient and ordered the sub. :wacky:

I got the SSD 15" with the copper coil option. It is the Dual 1 configuration and got the red dustcap as well. I was thinking to get the Dual 2 and get the BP option but decided that 800w RMS will be plenty for me. Especially only with a stock electrical system.

Can't wait to get it and see the beast ;-)

U will be very happy these sub are built like tanks.

It will handle it's rated power easily and even more with the copper coil*...

The BP option should really be used if you plan to run 900~1000+ on the sub.

    You're good to go!

    *not much though... negligible.

Nick that works over at FI has an SSD in a 1.1 sealed and giving it 950 watts and the review written about the SSD the guy was giving it a 1000watts.

Not saying you can't. I just wouldn't personally. Fi does underrate their subs though.

Anyway, the OP won't be sending that much to the sub so nobody has to worry :fing34:

  6. ughh haha i just want a system im so tired of the research! Im pretty set on FI, im willing to put what ever options on it i need to to get it doin what i want it to thats not a problem. I did look at the havoc looks like a good sub but im so sick of going from sub to sub lol. So the qs what you guys are saying? Buh ill have to use a ported box so it has to be bigger right? I'd need to build the base. My friends urgin me on a bl. I was considering the q as the first fi sub, but then saw what i guess apeared to be alot more than what i thought of bad reviews my bad haha. I was however lookin at the sundown audio 1000d(the amp i want) plus a icon 12d sub? UGH!! hahaha

    Havoc vs Q

Ascendant Audio is owned by Fi, so they are basically the same company. No worries on quality there.

You could also do an Icon. I've heard nothing but good about them. I honestly cannot stack up a Q against an Icon, as I have never heard an Icon, but I have plenty of experience with the Q and Havoc. Good luck my friend. Believe me, the research is worth it.

  7. On the edges and corners I'd use a 2x4 cut on 45's then mitered...

In the middle I'd use 2x4...

    Do the math on the displacements of a 2x4, it's not that much.. (2x4 ~24"long = .111111cf3)

I know lumber isn't really to true measurements, so the number will actually be smaller.

Then when you rip them into edge/corner strips it's even less...

I always add a few extra on the cf3 just to compensate for the bracing.

Yeah I do too. Outta curiosity, why would you recommend 1 or 2 2x4's as opposed to 8 1 inch dowels?

  8. If you want LOUD bass that doesn't sound like azz when it drops thru the scale...

    SSA all the way.....

If you actually like to listen to music...I mean really listen...

    SSA all the way....

What good are loud subs if you can only listen to 1/4 of your library?

Fi has real peakish graph readings. (hit a few notes loudly)

SSA is a more flat relative response on the graphs.

Thus SSA would be the way to go!

Can I please see those graphs?

    Gimme a few...

I'll post up the graphs from Termpak design software....

You'll be embarrased as to how the Xcon fits against any Fi subwoofer...

REALLY??? Sweeeet. I love graphs. Just tell me where they are. Did you test the subs sealed or ported?

And to clarify, I wasn't trying to say that I didn't believe the Xcon wasn't as "good" as any Fi sub, I just want to compare them.

  9. We received payment and order at 4:34 PM on Friday. We did not process the order until Tuesday (as Monday was a Holiday). An email was sent to you from UPS on Tuesday with the tracking information for the recone. This email was sent to the paypal email address provided. I will have them reforward it to the same address for you.

It normally takes 3-7 business days for us to assemble a recone kit. Considering that it was after 4:30 on Friday, and Monday is a holiday, the fact that the kit will be shipping out today is fairly quick.

Please let me know if I can help with anything else.

    Thanks,

    Scott

What more can you want? ;)

Scott's a great guy. This company goes anywhere BUT shitty CS!

    x2.

never dealt with him personally, but hear and see nothing but good things about their customer service.

I've only talked to him over the phone once, but he solved my problem within 2 minutes... All emails have been very polite as well. He doesn't always respond, but I can only imagine how many emails he gets. Nick has always been great too...

  11. 4 Q's magnets have broken since they've been in production. Pretty small number IMO.

For your application, I would seriously recommend the Q, but even more I would recommend an Ascendant Audio Havoc. Absolutely amazing sub.

The Q and Havoc are very similar, and if the Q has BP, the power handling is very alike. The Havoc will be a tad bit louder and lower frequencies, but either sub will match your goals IMO.

  12. It will handle it's rated power easily and even more with the copper coil*...

  13. basically i want my trunk to sound like it's ready to blow off, (no rattle already matted) i already got alpine type s comps all round and center channel for my mids and tweet, im just trying to figure what 15' sub i wanna get

you want a BL. that amp will work fine on the dual 2ohm voice coil model.

X2. Please do NOT get the Q :)

  14. Thats what i get for reading ;)

Haha! Trust me allthread/threaded metal was my FIRST idea, but then the realization that it couldn't work occurred. Dowels should work I hope. I'm thinking about using 1 inch dowels and doing 8 braces. That would knock me down to 4.453 cu.ft., which really isn't far from 4.496 lol.

  15. the way the enclosure is laid out i doubt 2 2x4 or like a 4inch wide piece of 3/4 on each side of the woofer would hurt much. Im not sure how you would use threaded rod with out the nut poking out the top and bottom, you cant have that if you dont have room for another layer on the bottom.I dont think the issue if in the corners . The bottom is a pretty large surface with no bracing. Id say brace the bottom to the baffle and leave it . or try to squeze a 2nd layer to the bottom.

    Aight. Will do.

I'd love to use threaded rod, but as I (and AlanHall) said, I can't have it poke out of the bottom. I DEFINITELY do not have room for a layer on the bottom, so looks like I'm suck with bracing it. I'll try it and post up results!

  16. I really don't have any space... That is the problem really. It does have a double baffle on the top. Here is a pic of my previous enclosure w/o the top baffle on (basically the exact same enclosure).

    DSC00114.jpg

I think I will just use about 8 dowel rods for bracing. I would double everything up, but I cannot due to space. And I was going to glass the whole inside, but that seems that I won't help as much for what I need to do. Here is a pic of the box plan.

    boxplansjan09.jpg

It has a 45 in the port, but would it help to curve all the corners using glass, or should I just try it as an experiment, or do y'all think it'll be worth it?

  17. Oh god you scared me for a second HA!

Ok that's what I was thinking. Dowels take up almost no space and are easy to put in.

Would glassing at least all the corners help noticeably do you think? Or would that be a waste of time/money?

And by noticeable, I mean to the ear... I'm not really a competitor.
