  1.

My current box is REALLY close to the size you are wanting.  I'm at 1.75cu ft tuned at 32hz with an aeroport.  I'm also using a 1500.1 Crescendo.

I know its higher than the budget you mentioned, but I went with the 12" DSS Ethos.  Extremely pleased with the setup so far.

what r the dimensions of your box?? smile.png

Overall size was 21.5"w x 13"h x 17"d to get the 1.75cu ft.  I ended up having to add an extra layer of MDF on top though for the sub to clear the port, so the height is now 13.75".

  3. Looking at upgrading the factory speakers in my Focus.  Car has the Sony system "upgrade".  I don't intend on amping the speakers for now, so I'd like something that will work well with what I have.

The car comes with a component setup from the factory but I've been looking at the new 6.5" coaxials on the SQ site.  There is also the component setup but I can't tell if the tweeter is removable on the component setup though so that may not work.

Factory setup is 4ohm at 25w RMS from what I was able to dig up.  I'm trying to get a nice clear sound so I guess I was wondering how well going with the coaxials might work?

On the Focus forums the Infinity PR6500CS 6.5 seem pretty highly recommended, but if these coaxials are just as good at a much lower price, I'd rather try these out.  The tech I spoke with at SQ seemed to really like them, but with no reviews out yet, I'm a little gunshy.

    Thoughts?

  4. I don't really do it for buisness anymore, this was a personal favor for a friend.  I really have no idea who in my area builds decent boxes...

No worries.  I was more or less just paying you a compliment on the skills and attention to detail.  I (hopefully) don't really plan on building another enclosure anytime soon.

  5. With just the sub, I would definitely recommend upgrading the speakers.  Mine is pretty bass heavy right now and the speakers sound very muddy.  I can't really say what route to go with since I havent done those to mine yet.  For me, my plan is to upgrade the factory component setup.  I'm looking at the Hertz ESK165's for mine.  Mine also has the Sony stereo fwiw.

I built the box myself but had Dave The Box Guy provide me the blueprints.  Couldnt be happier with this service.

  6. I have a 14' Focus ST (so its a hatchback) with the Crescendo 1500 and a 12" DSS Ethos.  I havent upgraded the main speakers yet and I havent had a chance to really dial in the amp, but so far the car has had no issues keeping up with the amp.  I believe mine has a 160amp alternator from the factory.

Before this setup I was running an Audioque 1200d and a 12" ICON and when it was all setup the car had zero issues at full tilt.

    Quick pic of mine:

Hopefully that helps out a little

Also you can't hear the difference between that wattage.

Hes not trying to say will the watts make a difference in sound. He wants to know if that much power with that size enclosure will be ok

How much power did he run to his icon in that box?

    1200

  8. Found an online calculator to help figure out the cubic feet of a piece of wood (math wizard I am not).  Looks like a 2'3"x2'3" piece of 3/4 MDF will take up .32 cu ft.  Pretty much exactly what I need to bring the box down to 1.0 cu ft to make the SD-12 work.

  9.

Could you add something inside the enclosure (supports or really anything) to make it closer to 1 cube?

I could add a couple pieces of 3/4" MDF to the inside, but I honestly wouldnt know how much to add.

    Just need to do math

Thats a pretty scary thought lol

  10. Great subs but you have to wait 21+ on all their models. If she wants it faster I would go with a sundown sub.

Seems to be the way she is leaning.  The box built is 1.35cu ft and it looks like the SD-12 mentions to use a 1.0 cu ft enclosure.  Will the extra .35 be bad with it getting 450w out of the 500w recommended?  I think the lower end might increase, but I'm not too sure aside from that?

  11. She said that part really doesnt matter to her to much.  Not sure how true that is or not lol.  I know I said the same thing with the ICON, and while it was quoted at 21 days, it ended up being more like 40 days.  Not sure if she would be really wanting to wait that long.

  12. Sundown SD-12 do great in sealed and sound good too. Plus they are cheap

    Thanks.

That actually looks like a pretty good option.  The box we have is a bit on the big side (1.35 vs the 1.0 it calls for) but would that be enough to cause issues?

Might be between the SD-12 and the DCON

  13. Try a ported enclosure

That might happen eventually.  She mainly wants a good sub since the current sub was to just get something going.  If she isn't happy with the next sub in the sealed enclosure then we'll build a ported enclosure for it.

Whats the power rating of the amp in watts rms?

Did the sub burn up or what happened to it?

    450w @ 2ohm

    260w @ 4ohm

Its currently at the 4ohm rating with the 10" RF sub.  There's nothing wrong with the sub, she just wants more bass/volume.  The sub sounds good for the price, but she just wants more.

I think the ones you are looking at are good choices or even the E series sundown. SQ also makes a nice low end sub.

I'll check out the SQ sub.  I was looking at Sundown's previously but I couldnt find the airspace requirements for them so at that point, I pretty much narrowed it down to the DCON and I-Series subs.
