    Product availbility?

Sorry for missing this topic! All of my current inventory has been produced by TC Sounds state side. I have made a purchase order for a fresh batch of RL-p18's and RL-i8's to be produced overseas, under the direction of Thilo Stompler from TC Sounds, to ensure that the products are built to specification. Unfortunately, the process has been long and winding, and I have yet to receive any product from the new producer. Since the cash is tied up and I haven't been able to verify the quality of the final products from the new house, I will not be making any additional purchase orders until delivery and inspection on the current order has been completed. Rest assured that customer care is still a priority. Current inventory is still on sale, and I make a point to keep a couple of drivers on hand to cover any potential warranty claims. In the rare instance that someone has a warranty claim and no replacement is available, they may use the value of their product towards a different product, or be eligible for a complete cash refund (less the original shipping expense).

    Orphan 8's Need a Home!

Shoot yes, I have tons of these li'l beefsters! That single 6 ohm coil tends to turn people away but all things considered, it's a damn fine driver.

Long time RL-i8 owner seeking upgrade advice

Reposted from email response: I'm sorry I didn't catch your thread on the forums earlier, my apologies! I think the RL-i10's would be just fine in your proposed enclosures, as would a pair of 8's for that matter. Unfortunately, as I'm sure you know, I've been out of my RL-i8's for quite some time now... but I do still have plenty of 10's. You definitely won't have to worry about poor sound quality with the 10's, that's not a consideration. The only (minor) consideration is that the limited airspace may result in less than the full potential peak and average output from the RL-i10... but if you can throw 500 watts at each 10 (as evidenced by your suggestion of the 1.1000 amp), you should make up for that no problem. Also, 0.57 cu ft net per RL-i10 is really not that small to begin with, as I've had people using them in 0.4 cu ft with a smile. Any other questions, you know where to find me...

    Great Product

Just so you are fully appraised, the RL-p12 D4 may take a LONG time be come back in stock. I am still waiting on RL-i8 and RL-p18 production, and until those come through I am not purchasing any new products. This mess of delays sprouted through the bankruptcy of my previous supplier, and with money already tied up, I am sitting tight until the current production is finished and evaluated for quality/consistency (since they are being made at a different facility). That said, a pair of D2's will work fine with the HiFonics amp you suggested, the Cadence DCA-2500.1, the Sundown SAZ-3000D, or the JL Audio 1000/1v2. If you instead wish to run only a single D2 driver, the Sundown SAE-1000D or the JL Audio 1000/1v2 would work well. Generally speaking, you'll want to find an amplifier that can provide 500 - 1000 watts RMS for each RL-p driver. If you want to maximize the output of the RL-p, you'll of course need a good enclosure but should also lean towards 800 - 1000 watts RMS per driver. Anything above 1000 watts will only serve to add additional stress to the driver without giving you any significant benefits in performance.

    question about rlp 12"

The problem is, my ol' manufacturer declared bankruptcy last December and the new manufacturer has failed to deliver the current order of RL-p18 and RL-i8's for several months now. Until I receive delivery on that order, it would be unwise for me to throw more money into the production side of things. So as you can see, the RL-p12's are not even on order yet, and given that I haven't yet received the previous order, there is really no telling when the RL-p12 D4's will be available again. My apologies for being unable to give you a reliable estimate, but in all honesty, I would not hold your breath! There are still a handful of RL-p12 D2's left in stock however!

    question about rlp 12"

The RL-p12 is currently only available in dual 2 ohm coil configuration through our website. We have however produced many dual 4 ohm RL-p12's as well, so there is a chance you could find a used one somewhere. At this time, I do not have a reliable estimate as to the future availability of new RL-p12's in the D4 configuration. The Fb is the tuning frequency of a ported enclosure. It is determined by the relationship between the enclosure's net volume, port area and port length. For more information on designing a enclosure, I encourage you to check out the following links: General Enclosure Information http://www.bcae1.com/spboxnew2.htm JL's Ports Tutorial: http://mobile.jlaudio.com/support_pages.php?page_id=165 CarStereo's Vent Length calculator (to avoid that nasty formula) Ignore the Vent Diameter calculator and use 20 - 25 inches for the RL-p12. http://www.carstereo.com/help2/Articles.cfm?id=31 Some free Generic Box Plans http://www.caraudio.com/forum/showthread.php?t=137804

    Orphan 8's Need a Home!

Just an update that I have reduced the price on the Orphan 8's by $20 from $165 to $145 + shipping. I do have two mismatched RL-i12 D4's left. Both with a matte black cone, one with logo and one without. $150 + shipping first come first served.

    Hey Mike!

Should be close, but we'll just have to wait and see. These are coming from a new manufacturer, and so this will be an evaluative period with the first order. The new drivers will be tested and the appropriate spec's listed before they go on sale.

    Hey Mike!

Still just mullin' along, nothing much new to report. Now that we are trying to do our production overseas, we have had to deal with numerous delays at the port (for parts that we sent in a container) as well as with the various producers we are working with. I still have a big lot of 8's and 18's on order, but there's really no telling when they will pull through. Rest assured, as soon as I know, I will make it known. In the meanwhile, I hope you have all been having a great summer. It's been a li'l rough for me both personally and professionally, but I'm still kickin'! As always, if you ever have any questions, I invite you to email me anytime. Currenty inventory includes: Orphan 8's RL-i10 S4 + D4 RL-p12 D2 RL-p15 D2 + D4 RL-p18 D2 + D4 RL-s12 S4 Take care e'ryone!

    Yea, that'll be fine!

    Hey Mike!

That comparison is almost entirely on the level. They'll both sound great.

    Orphan 8's Need a Home!

Aloha Sky! Both the Orphans and the RL-i12 should be fed 300 - 500 watts RMS. This driver is a good candidate for very small sealed boxes. For vented boxes, it would be most practical to use more than one driver in a shared chamber, as the net volume must be kept relatively low in order to achieve a flat response. Of course, if you don't mind a li'l bit of peakiness, you can always go larger. I'd suggest anywhere from 0.2 - 0.5 cu ft net volume per driver tuned between 30 - 35 Hz. A passive radiator may be the best way to get the most out of this driver in a small space, as you don't have to deal with the port displacement which will otherwise make for a very large enclosure. I know that the original retailer for whom this driver was intended, used it in a passive radiator system that was less than 1 cu ft in volume and it absolutely shook the house! One of the most impressive 8" woofer systems I've ever seen, to be honest. Unfortunately, the exact specifications of their enclosure are not available to me. Because the aim of the system was to be as small and powerful as possible, which is precisely why they returned the drivers for being just 0.5" too tall to fit in their space efficient enclosures.

    Hey Mike!

Yea, it's a bummer, I know. What can ya do? The older drivers were never sold as RL-i's in fact, they are built upon the same basic motor topology, but I bought them on liquidation as they were initially intended for another customer (not me). I figure I may as well let you all know about 'em while we wait for the RL-i's, just in case they may suffice for your application (and they're a little cheaper). All RL-i8 waitlisters will be receiving an email later today, with an offer for a small batch of Audiopulse EPIC 8" drivers that were delivered to me in efforts to settle a small portion of the longstanding production debt owed to me. I am confident that these EPIC drivers are on par with the RL-i8, and while I don't particularly care to push another company's product, I figure it's the least I can do for the people who have so patiently been waiting for so long. They will be sold at a discount to their retail price. Please note, I have these in extremely limited quantity, so these will be available exclusively to waitlisters for two weeks. If there are any left after that period, I will list them here on the forum for anyone else who may be interested.

    12 RL-i and Overstock 8s

These 8" drivers are single 6 ohm. This order was actually built for someone else, but the magnet height was 0.5" too tall for that customer's application. Therefore, I decided to pick 'em up at a discount since it seems people have been quite eager to get their hands on high powered 8's. These are built upon the same TC2+ motor as the RL-i, however utilize a different cone, lack the copper shorting ring, and do not carry spring-action terminals, instead they feature the old-school flat metal binding posts with the small hole in the middle. While they are not quite up to par with the RL-i series 8" driver, they are certainly no slouch. I will have pic's posted here shortly. $165 + shipping, or $150 + shipping when ordering two or more.

    Hey Mike!

Just hangin' out in "wait and see" mode right now. Deposits have been made, TC Sounds has repurchased a good lot of their inventory, which exhibits their commitment to continue operating... but there are significant changes being implemented to their business model, which has set back production severely. RL-i8's and RL-p18's are currently on order, however I estimate leadtime at anywhere from 2 - 6 months. I've a lot of things on my plate at the moment outside of the speaker business, but I'm of course still servicing existing and new customers. I do have inventory of the following products available for immediate shipment: 8's (not the RL-i, but similar... see the sticky thread in this forum) RL-i10 S4 & D4 RL-p12 D2 RL-p15 D2 & D4 RL-p18 D2 RL-s12 S3 Hope you're all feelin' fine!

    Your thoughts for 2 18RL-p's

After having seen you post for some time, it sure sounds like you're definitely a "big output" guy... and not that two sealed RL-p18's won't give you big output, but two ported RL-p18's will give you even bigger output! Of course, we can go back and fourth about it all day long, and when all is said and done, your ears still won't have experienced what two sealed RL-p18's can do. The only way to be sure about what you prefer, is to try it for yourself. Your 6 4" round ports should suffice for the pair of drivers, but it is hovering around the minimum amount of port area per driver that I would feel comfortable with (55 - 65 square inches per driver). If you have the inclination and space for a larger slot port, it may be a worthwhile investment.

    Good box for an RLP-12?

Glad things are sounding better for ya. A 1000 - 1200 watt amplifier, wielded responsibly, should not be a problem for the RL-p. Just make sure you don't go crankin' all your knobs full tilt!

Let's just say that it wouldn't be wise to push the RL-p's farther than 2" peak to peak.

non magnetized magnet what to do?

My apologies for the lag time on this thread. I was contacted about this twice, and responded via email on January 31st and again on March 26th. Magnetization is one of the last stages in the build process. The speaker to which you are referring was not sold by me, and was either a refurbished model or something that TC had pieced together with whatever spare parts they had left on hand (and obviously forgot to magnetize the mother!). If I had a magnetizer, I would happily do it for ya, but alas I am just the end retailer. You'd have to take it up with Thilo, or fire a message to Nick, that sexy beast!

    Hey Mike!

Haha, you know it! I hope everyone's doing well 'round these parts. Like Kent mentioned, it's been a busy time for me. My pops is off on some crazy adventure with his woman up the coast of Brazil, over into Gambia (Africa), the Canary Islands, Greece and Italy... for the next three months! As it is with my dad, he's also in the middle of a huge remodelling project on his home and two investment properties. And guess who gets to watch over all of that now that he's gone? Also been managing three other rental properties my mama owns, as she's now living up in southern Oregon as of two years ago. Check out these digs (view from her balcony)!! Bein' a southern Californian born and raised, it's always cool to experience the real four season effect up there. I've also been gettin' pretty deeply involved in the stock market. Thanks to SoundSplinter I've built up some extra cash to try my hand at trading stock. While the market has been pretty bad over the last six months, this is my third year in and I think I'm finally getting a solid feel for it. Trying to put away as much cash as possible into investments while I'm still young - and I'd strongly recommend everyone else who plans to save, to consider opening up an IRA (or a Roth IRA if eligible), to invest your money with some serious tax advantages for retirement. You can never start too soon! Went on a four hour hike yesterday afternoon/evening up into the Angeles National Forest. My legs are pretty damn sore, but spring time is my favorite time of year around this part of the country. Been having the privilage to do lots of good eatin' and drinkin' with some ol' friends.

    TC going belly-up

Howdy y'all! nstaln, sure TC's troubles are affecting me! Afterall, they have been my sole product provider since inception back in 2004. But as noted in [this other post], TC is planning to rebuild their business after their bankruptcy case is closed. It may take a little while, but I'm willing to wait this one out a while longer. Not too interested in finding a new producer at this time as I have a fair lot of other business to tend to these days in addition to subwoofer retailing (property management, website management, and stock trading). If it turns out TC doesn't make it back and I liquidate my remaining inventory (which I sincerely doubt will happen), just remember that I will never leave my customers out in the cold; I personally guarantee all warranty service for its full term, and if I don't have a replacement product for you at the time of said service, I'll refund your entire original purchase price.
